HOARDER CHALLENGE-#2-AN AUTHOR EVERYONE HAS READ BUT ME
2.5 stars
This is a writer who's very popular but I hadn't read previously.
It was okay.
It's 2 stories which are part of a series. Even though I hadn't read the previous books, I wasn't too lost. The writer does a great job of summing up concisely the events/characters from the previous book who live in the town of Promise.
I liked the characters. Sweet stories.
Shades of clean/Christian romance themes (no explicit sex scenes) which was fine b/c it was in context with the story.

Second read: Read in order this time, these stories were even more enjoyable.
First read: A delightful classic Debbie Macomber story... Actually, two stories that I very much enjoyed. I should have started with Volumes 1 and 2 but have requested both from the library.
Nothing too dramatic, just nice cozy love stories.

Nell's Cowboy:
I didn't really like this one. There were not enough encounters with Nell and Travis, though I did like them and liked the idea of the story. The author just spent way too much time on going over what was in the first four books. That might have been good if I hadn't read them, and especially if I hadn't JUST read them. The writing was well done, just the story of the two main characters was so brief, it was hard to get into it.
I did like what she did with the results to the Bitter End Town. Very creative.

Now this one was MUCH better. This one really got into the story of the two main characters, not hitting so much on the other characters from the previous stories or over doing it about what happened with Bitter End. The author really developed these two characters relationship.

This was a actually two stories, both take place in the small town of Promise Texas. It takes us back to a not not so long ago, when neighbors knew all their neighbors an car d d about the people in town. Debbie Macomber always writes about towns I would like to visit and people I would like To know.

Another two stories about the little Texas town called Promise. In those two books we know another two characters, Nell, a widow with two children who need a father and Wade, the town's preacher, who finds himself a wife! ;)

It is so easy to become part of the community in Debbie Macomber's books. The characters are all so likeable and pull you in until you live there too.

I bought this book on Amazon because it was a cheap mass produced paper back and I needed to stock up for social isolating. I didn’t realize that this is actually TWO books, and that they are #5 and #6 in a series. If I had known that, I probably would have passed over it. In book #5- Nell’s Cowboy, I found it hard to keep track of who all the characters where. If I had read the beginning of the series, it wouldn’t have been a problem, I’m sure, as each couple probably had their own book. I also felt like Nell and Travis fell in love too easily- like, I didn’t quite get how it happened. Buuuuut, I kept reading because I was intrigued by the mystery about the ghost town Bitter End- and that turned out interesting for sure. The next book, Lone Star Baby, was one I enjoyed a little more. I knew with in a chapter or two who would fall in love, but that’s typical, I suppose. I did enjoy the story of a single pregnant lady finding refuge in the town of Promise where she is immediately taken in and cared for. And the way Bitter End gets tied in again is kind of cool. All in all, I didn’t hate it, but it was not my favorite Macomber book. Plus, it was kind of weird to read something from her that was NOT set in Washington. Haha!

I have been loving this series and would have rated this 5 stars like the others if it hadn't been for 2 issues in Lone Star Baby.
The first thing that bothered me was that the pastor used cuss words several times in conversation. I think that Ms. Macomber was trying to show that he was just as human as everyone else. However, that was accomplished in other ways and I think having him just swear conversationally was a big stretch. I'm not saying that it isn't possible for a pastor to cuss, but it didn't fit his character and it bothered me.
The other thing that bothered me was that the characters referred to the ambulance as an "aid car.". Here the author's Northwestern roots are showing. They may call them aid cars in Washington, but in Texas they are just plain ol' ambulances.

These were two wonderful books to read in one. I loved the characters, the descriptions and well no spoilers but the Happy Ending for the main characters of the story. There was mystery, worry, concern, a little disconcerting moments. I am so ready to read more stories by Debbie Macomber. She is an excellent rider. The town of Promise, with its faults of course as any place in the world. But it is a place I would most likely like to live. Give them a read, if you like these kind of stories, you will I believe like them as well. But well we all are different so who knows. But if you do, have a great time in two awesome reads.

Two books in one! Both have a cast of characters-I enjoyed the fact that she had a cast of characters for each book. I had not read the earlier volumes, so I was not familiar with the characters. Stories about several people living in Promise, Texas. Several twists and turns in relationships with solving an old mystery about the town of Bitter End. Concluded even more on this town in the ending of the 2nd book. Fun characters. Nice read for bedtime when you just want to be entertained and nothing too wild to keep you awake at night.

Typical Debbie Macomber.... Great read that makes you want to stay there forever. You can start these where ever in the series as the previous stories are explained although it is better to read them all at once.
Debbie is one of those authors that can create worlds where you want to get lost in and stay, surrounded by people you wish were real, in a community you would love to live in.
This is why her books are ones I keep on hand and reread over and over.

I finished the second story of this book. I'm a Big fan of this author and this book was no exception. Both Nell's Cowboy and Lone Star Baby were great to be read together. I've rated both books 5 *. There seemed to be a lot of action centered around an old Ghost Town. I really liked the characters in this series. This author writes clean stories and they leave me with a good feeling when I'm done.

Amy has been rejected by her lover and mother when she finds out she is pregnant. She decides to get off the bus in Promise on a whim, and goes into the church where she meets the preacher Wade and finds out that Promise has a lot of friendly, loving people.

I enjoyed this series. Kept my attention. Had plot twists. Not too fast. Not too slow. Sleepy Texan accents made it fun and realistic. Enjoyed the story line - although it did take me a bit longer to get involved with it, compared to the author's Christmas stories (I'm a fan of those). It does have some relationship topics (describing kissing and getting 'hot', so perhaps better for ages 18+; but nothing "dirty", author kept it decent. Otherwise I wouldn't listen to it.)

I enjoy reading Texas home. It was about a man and woman who made a ghost town not a scaring place anymore. The man was author and wanted find the story of this ghost town. He fell in love with a lady that showed him where the ghost town was.

Not my favorite
I like the concept of the acceptance of the stranger in small town. Even the relationship of wade and Amy although predictable was ok. But I couldn't get into the Bitter End story line.

Both books were incredible. The fact that two new characters were introduced seamlessly was great. Two more books in the series, I can't wait.
