Nothing about them fits, and they shouldn’t be trying to make it work, but Deke and Taylor know that after all life has thrown at them, they were meant to be. CAN’T GET HER… Deke Gregory has a type – petite, feminine, pliable. His ex-wife was his ideal, but she wasn’t his, obviously. Faced with the realities of joint custody and a family “village” raising his son, Deke sets out to find a woman who ticks all his boxes and thinks he walks on water. Enter Doctor Taylor De tall, strong, willful, opinionated, and too busy to be bothered with soothing his rough edges. Imagine his surprise when he falls for her – hard. OUT OF HIS HEART Taylor De Witt knew she would be a heart surgeon since college. Now a single mother with a schedule that requires roller blades, she has little time for her family, never mind a social life. When she meets Deke Gregory she thinks he’s a Neanderthal – yummy, but from a different era. Little does she know what their mutual attraction will bring, including examining her life to include an everlasting love.

Author of over forty romance novels, Emily Mims combined her writing career with a career in public education until leaving the classroom to write full time. In addition to eighteen Candlelight Ecstasy Romances under the pen name 'Emily Elliott', she has written two series under her own name, the Texas Hill Country series and the Smoky Blue series, and has completed four books in the Durango Street Theatre series. The mother of two sons and grandmother to six, she and her husband Charles split their time between San Antonio and their lake home in the Texas Hill Country, and make frequent trips to Tennessee to see grandchildren. When not busy at the word processor, she plays the piano, organ and dulcimer. She plays her ukulele with two singing groups and has even been known to sing a song or two at the mic. She says, "I love to write romances because I believe in them. Romance happened to me and it can happen to any woman-if she'll just let it."

Can two different people with different goals and different needs find, and keep, love? Absolutely! Emily Mims in Amethyst, book nine of her The Smoky Blues series, tackles that question. Not everything goes together as smoothly as peanut butter and jelly. Opposites like the positive and negative on a magnet, or a hunky macho ex-military guy and tall talented assertive woman surgeon, can and do repel each other. At first.

I’m not telling spoilers when I say that super sexy Deke Gregory is the one swept off his feet by the confident Dr. Taylor DeWitt. That’s Dr. DeWitt as she tells Deke during their first emotional run-in. And I’m not telling who gets them get together, but I will tell you that when these two opposites connect, their clothes come off faster than sparks fly. They are hot!

Into this intense mix add two careers, an ex-wife with a new family, two fist-fighting pre-teen boys, a wedding, and a passion to save lives. Wow!

But, it might be that passion that breaks them apart. Is love more important than saving lives? How long will Deke stay in second place to Taylor’s patients? Or can Taylor and Deke keep their love, their careers, their families? This is a bumpy ride through the Smoky Mountains (I love the backdrop here!)

Emily Mims writes a hot, page-turning, story about two committed people. This is the first book I read in Emily’s Smoky Blue series, but this won’t be the last. Happy reading!

Book nine in The Smoky Blues series another well written story in this series that kept me turning pages. Deke Gregory finally gets another chance at love, when he meets Doctor Taylor De Witt through their boys Charlie and Brian. This story has a woman driven by her obsession with being a surgeon because of her twin brother's death when they where younger. A man that has to put others before himself and one sick young man. I enjoyed seeing this story come together. I would warn that I think these stories should be read in order. There is a sentence I liked in the story it is Right now he wanted to watch the sky as it slowly lightened and the amethyst of predawn gave way to the pink glow of early morning and the start of a new day. The Smokey Blues series is a wonderful series to be sure. I haven't read all of the books, but I've read enough to see that Ms. Mims takes great care in creating her stories and characters so that they are realistic and believable. It's easy to understand and relate to what the characters are going through and her descriptions are so vivid that you can clearly picture in your mind what's happening and feel all the emotions. This is a beautifully written story about two single parents, Deke and Taylor, who are total opposites, but are perfect for each other. I enjoyed reading their story and am looking forward to more from this author.

I loved it. This series has me hooked.
Book 9 is amazing it deals with how we are affected by the physical and educational challenges of our children. That bullish is words as much as physical.
Taylor had her life altered by the death of her little brother, she became a dedicated heart surgeon putting her patients first.
Deerfield is dedicated to being part of his sons life and starting over to be near him.
This story made me cry and laugh as they all get to know people so different than themselves.

This author is new to me but I absolutely loved this book. It wasn’t over the top like some other books but kind of felt like a small town romance. The story was different but great and kept me engaged the whole way through. That ending though, I didn’t see coming.

Some say opposite attract or say it will never work. Taylor and Deke story don't realize that what makes them opposite is what makes them perfect for each other.
