For Natalie Cameron, misfortune came in the most unspeakable way imaginable, now she must try and rebuild her life while fighting her own dark demons, the town speculation, her arrogant brother and her raging desire for the kindest man she’s ever met.
Natalie Cameron, along with her young daughter, Dallas, is on the run from a past that threatens to destroy her sanity. When her car breaks down on the side of a two lane Texas road, Jack Kinsen, her parent’s ranch foreman, unknowingly comes to her rescue. His kind eyes and sincere charm make him an easy target for Natalie’s trust issues and pent-up aggressions. But it doesn’t take her long to realize that her attitude towards him has a lot less to do with jealousy and a lot more to do with the fact that his closeness sets her on fire like no one else ever has. His sincerity begins to disarm the front she guards so vigilantly. If she isn’t careful, she could find herself lost to him….
At first glance, Jack Kinsen is fascinated by Natalie Butler Cameron and her child with her most curious gift. Natalie is the beloved only daughter of Jack’s employers and he’s not only baffled by her indifference to him but mystified by her unwarranted anger. She starts to awaken something primal within him, but will his compassionate nature be enough to break down the walls she hides behind or are her wounds simply too deep to heal?
Just as Natalie’s fate begins to turn around, unknowing danger lurks on the horizon. Natalie's disturbing past is about to make an unexpected return...and with vengeance.

A lovely read! Endearing and full of heart! It has romance, drama and suspense and also wonderfully expresses the depth of raw human emotion and the strength it takes to overcome tragedy.
Misfortune comes to us all in some form...
For Natalie it came in the form of a mother's worst nightmare. Now she must try and rebuild her life making sure that her little 4 year old daughter is safe. But the past has left a very ugly mark and Natalie finds it difficult to pull her shattered self together. Fighting her own dark demons, the town speculation, her arrogant brother and her raging desire for the kindest man she’s ever met is not something she can easily handle.
Jack Kinsen is a dream come true! Can I have him for myself please?! Kind, compassionate and so understanding, he is determined to make the stubborn Natalie warm up to him, despite being the target of all her pent up frustration and rage. But will his compassionate nature be enough to break down the walls she hides behind or are her wounds simply too deep to heal?
And then there is the little Dallas with her curious gift! She is so very wonderful and sweet!! I swear I fell a little bit in love with her! She is such a little sweetheart despite the horrible things she's been through.
Romance, love and heartache, suspense and an irresistible southern family charm! This book has it all. Solid characters - and that includes the secondary cast - a lovely narrative that's a pleasure to read and just the right amount of sweet charm. With a little bit more tension and suspense it would have been just perfect.
If you're looking for a good cowboy romance with a lot of heart, Abundance would be a perfect pick.
Happy reading ya'all!

Abundance is a great, entertaining book that kept me on the edge of my seat! I fell in love with Jack, Natalie & Dallas. Love the country setting, and the author did a great job to paint the picture in my mind.
Characters are what make or break a romance novel. Fortunately, the only thing that broke for me with Shanna Swenson’s Abundance was my heart. Single parent Natalie is running from the circumstances of a rough past with her daughter. When she breaks down near a small town, she finds help in more ways than one in the form of ranch hand Jack. This novel is heartfelt, I loved the characters so much, and Swenson hit me in the heart so many times making this one of the most memorable romances I’ve ever read!
Shanna did a really good job at creating a realistic world. A recently, divorced mom, Natalie, goes home to start over. I can feel for her character. On her journey to starting over and finding her old self, she meets Jack. Their world wined romance may not be the most realistic BUT it is still entertaining, and I really enjoyed it. A must-read for anyone who loves romance novels. I will be reading the next one!
Shanna is a new author to me and has now been added to my must read author list! Abundance was an incredible cowboy romance! It had just the right amount of drama with a little added suspense but all the steamy love and romance you get with cowboys!
With everything Natalie and her daughter Dallie have been through, she ever excepted the strong, sexy cowboy Jack to come and save the day when she had finally hit her lowest of lows. But Natalie never knew he was also going to save her and bring her and Dallie back to life!
I loved everything about this book. It was such a great cowboy romance!!
Natalie and her sweet daughter Dallie are going home, leaving a horrible past and starting a new life in Abundance, Texas. Jack barges into her life like a whirlwind...a very handsome whirlwind! Can she overcome her past and trust this cowboy?
I LOVED this book so much! Romance, suspense, and true southern family charm! As a Texas resident, I loved how this story made me feel right at home. I cannot wait to see what's in store with the second book, Return to Abundance!
Meet Natalie. Single mom of precious little Dallie, starting over after some hard life lessons and traumatic past. Where better to heal and find your feet? Home. Which for Natalie is Texas on her parents horse ranch. I was sold at 'cowboy' but then, enter Jack. A complicated man in his own right, Jack works alongside Natalie's father training the horses. From the first meeting the two have a connection, Cowboy rescues damsel, and damsel finds she may need to leave the past and its hurts where they belong so that she can trust and love again. The story takes us through the gorgeous scenery of Texas, with its southern charm, filling the pages with characters not only true to life but interesting and written with depth. I loved following Natalie as she began to heal, getting to know her family and rooting for Jack the entire way. This is a lovely romance that will warm your heart and have you turning the last page with a satisfied smile.
I was given this book for a honest review. It was my first time reading a cowboy romance and I enjoyed it! Natalie faced a lot of turmoil in her marriage, and needed to protect her daughter. Jack was a sweet and sexy cowboy. The story had some very serious situations, but a lot of love and some steamy, sexy moments. Shanna did a fabulous job with all the characters and the story line. The story has a Hope Floats movie vibe to it! A true southern, sexy romance with a heart of gold at the core.
I really don't even have the right words to describe this book, but I will try. First, my heart absolutely shattered at so many parts in this novel. The things Nat and Dallie had to endure broke me and Nat's reluctance to let Jack into their lives frustrated me at times. After finding out the whole story, as a mother myself, I totally understood. Jack is a SAINT and treats Nat and Dallie like Queens despite Nat's ability to shut him down at every turn. The ending broke my heart into a million pieces but then Shanna put it all back together again. I loved the secondary characters and their relationships and I am so excited to read about Nathan and Jordan! I absolutely lovedddddd them!!!! This was an amazing read and I literally abandoned all life responsibilities until I finished it!! Cannot wait to continue reading all about the wonderful people in Abundance, Texas!!!!!
I loved this book and getting drawn into Natalie and Jack’s story. It’s so beautiful, touching and romantic. Jack is the ideal man that we all crave, want and need. There needs to be more Jacks in the world. Can’t wait to dive into book 2 in the series.
Natalie and her daughter made me feel so much. I couldn’t put it down last night and after a hard day, it’s exactly what I needed. I want to go back to Abundance, like right now.
Great story, well developed, awesome characters. Absolutely adored little Dallie. I loved this book. Kept me wanting to turn the pages. Great debut. Looking forward to more from this author.
“Abundance is a charming novel that will sweep you away with romance, drama and suspense as it expresses the depth of raw human emotion and the strength it takes to overcome tragedy.” * * * I enjoyed reading Abundance! Set on a horse farm in Texas, the story follows Natalie Cameron and Jack Kinsen as they explore a new and emotional relationship in the wake of unspeakable tragedy. Natalie, emotionally shattered by her ex-husband’s actions, returns to her parents’ home seeking comfort and a fresh start for her and her daughter, Dallie. What Natalie isn’t prepared for, though, is her parents’ foreman, Jack, and the complicated emotions that she begins to feel.
Shanna Swenson did a beautiful job conveying the depths of Natalie’s turmoil as she protects her daughter, guards her heart, and slowly builds trust with the handsome foreman whom her parents adore. And on the flip side, Jack is the perfect southern gentleman – rugged and strong, respectful to women (and everyone else he interacts with), and incredibly loyal. The chemistry and romantic tension between Natalie and Jack is logical, powerful, and real… and builds until the two absolutely cannot keep away from each other anymore!
This sizzling southern romance is a wonderful start from Shanna Swenson, and I’m looking forward to following these characters more in Return to Abundance!
Shared love, passion, and emotion Abundance is the first in the series by Shanna Swenson. She has been writing since she was fourteen years old, but she always made it a hobby outside of her other careers. This book is one that has been a work in progress for almost two decade. The end result is a satisfying novel of thrills, secrets, and how love can overcome a great deal of tragedy. Natalie and Jack seemed to be destined for each other. They aren’t perfect, but they are perfect for each other. They share a love for horses, Texas ranch life, and Natalie’s daughter Dallie. Despite the struggles that led to Natalie’s divorce, Dallie has an innocence that shows both of them how to love in spite of Natalie’s efforts to keep both of them to have their hearts broken again. This story is full of fun characters, heart-felt emotions, and goes at a pace that keeps you interested in the connection between the two lovers. It’s a great start to a romance series.
This is a NEW to me author & books! Boy was I glad I got the chance to review this!! If you've read some of my review's you can tell by when I get a little to excited. HA! This was one of those! Nothing better than a alpha, broody protective cowboy!!
I want to start with Natalie because, I sometimes have a hard time connecting with the heroines. Natalie I TOTALLY CONNECTED WITH. The way she spoke and her choices (yes, she had some bad ones, we are only woman after-all) but I was able to just connect with her. A single-mom who is fierce, scared, brave and not afraid to speak up. Her daughter was just, so dang sweet. I loved the duo!
Now let's talk about the hero Jack!! He is SO SO SWEET & SEXY & SWOONY & & ugh! Loved him! Now I do have to say that this book has a big trigger, I can't say anything yet but it does involve abuse. It was a little hard for me to read without getting mad. Over-all I loved the story line and the words!!
I am rating this a 5 & recommend it! H A P P Y - R E A D I N G
Natalie returns home to her family. After being married to a man she finds out she doesn't really know. Or the horrible things he was capable of. Jack comes into her life proving what an honorable man can be. She learns how to trust again. And finds herself attracted to him. Their relationship grows as Jack patiently waits for her to realize he is nothing like her Ex-husband. I think the story could have been made into 2 books. There seemed to be a lot of information shoved into 1. More details on certain aspects could have a added a little more to the story. Over all it was a good book. I enjoyed it!
I really loved this book. I'm not a huge reader of romance, but everytime I do, I love it. This book has dark points, but truly lets the characters grow into themselves and overcome. It is endearing, romantic, realistic, and let me escape into it. Highly recommend, esp if you love romance.
Is there anything better than a real cowboy? Natalie is returning home after a rough couple of years. Jack rides to her rescue(in his truck) and saves the day. Of course that was the first few pages. :) Then began the slow burn and back and forth. Jack is a tough guy who loves hard and I love that. Natalie & Jack are so sweet together. Throw in a crazy ex-husband and this is one heck of a book.
Ok, let me start off by saying that I'm a city girl, through and through. I'm not into small-town romances, cowboys, or country music. They've just never really been my thing. *shrugs unapologetically*
That being said, this book was fucking AWESOME! It's a sweet, sassy romance with some suspense and darkness thrown in, which takes place in a rural farm town filled with cowboys, bull-riders, and farmhands. See my above statement. Right? So you'd think it just wouldn't be my cup of tea.
As soon as I started reading, I was in it for Jack Kinsen. I fell in love with him right off the bat, and I knew that Natalie was going to annoy me by being so stubborn and resistant to his desire to sweep her off her feet. But then as I went on, and I found out why Natalie had such trust issues, I totally got it. Oh man, did I feel for her and her poor little girl.
The book was full of smalltown drama and steamy, slow-burn sweetness. I love a good slow-burn, so for me it was the best kind of torture waiting for the two of them to finally hook up. I swooned hard over the many, many times that Natalie would tease Jack, getting him all riled up then letting it fizzle out. The chemistry between them was undeniable, but it made perfect sense why Natalie was afraid to take it further. And let me tell you, Jack Kinsen is the ULTIMATE gentleman. Not many book boyfriends would have that kind of patience! And when they finally do come together, it was incredibly satisfying!
Jack's relationship with Dallas, Natalie's four-year-old daughter, made me melt. I love a man who's good to children, and Jack did everything right. Spoiling her as if she were his own. It gave me serious heart-eyes.
The only things - and I mean ONLY things - that prevented me from giving this book 5 stars was the fact that it does need some polishing. There were some typos, repetitiveness, adverbs and such that if cleaned up by an editor would EASILY make this book worthy of best-seller status! That and the fact that the chilling suspenseful ending felt like it was over way too quick. No spoilers, but there's some intense stuff that happens right at the end, and it could have been drawn out just a bit more. But aside from that, this book is freaking fantastic!
Shanna's writing is lovely. I've heard many romance readers say that they aren't keen on third person, and I personally think it takes a more open-mind to enjoy it, which I certainly do. I LOVED the fact that we got all kinds of POV's in this book, not just Jack and Natalie. It was so exciting to suddenly be following other characters, which is also why the third person worked so well. Shanna pulled it off stunningly.
I would HIGHLY recommend this book to any romance lovers! If it can capture my attention - someone who usually has no desire to read about cowboys and southern stuff - that just goes to show how truly wonderful this book really is.
I can't wait to read the rest of the series! A round of applause for this indie author and her imaginative creation of Abundance!
Abundance by Shanna Swenson is a romance story between Natalie Cameron and Jack Kinsen. Natalie and her daughter, Dallas, return home to Natalie's parents' ranch in Abundance, Texas, where she meets Jack, the foreman of the ranch. Despite Jack's kindness, Natalie is hostile toward him due to events that happened in Chicago. Can Natalie escape her past? Or will it follow her to Texas and succeed in coming between her and Jack? I loved the characters Natalie and Jack. Natalie is newly divorced from a husband who has been accused of unspeakable things. She has the love and support of her parents, who still own the family ranch, but it is Jack who stands up to Natalie’s hostility toward him and teaches her how to love again. They were made for each other, but had to suffer through heartbreaks and bad experiences to recognize how much they needed each other. They connect as friends as well as lovers, but love doesn't come easily for them. Natalie’s four-year old daughter, Dallas, is part of the deal, and Jack feels drawn to the little girl. Both she and Natalie have experienced trauma at the hands of Natalie's ex-husband, and Natalie struggles to trust another man. But Jack shows her and her daughter love and stability. However, there are others who are trying to keep them apart.
Fans of Nicholas Sparks and Nora Roberts will LOVE THIS BOOK! Ms. Shanna Swenson truly knows how to weave a story.
This is not some light-hearted, erotic/cliché romance novel. THIS book captures and exposes the human heart--in all its glory and flaws--through her well-developed characters and their complex dynamics. You'll find yourself absolutely LOVING some of the characters (especially Jack, Natalie, and Dallie), and you'll find yourself utterly HATING the antagonist. He is vile. I think I'll hate him forever.... Now, that's good writing, when it evokes such great emotion from the reader.
I honestly could not put this book down, and stayed up way too late to finish it! It has it all: SUSPENSE, romance, humor, love. It will leave you wanting more (and I've already purchased the sequel), while also leave you hugely satisfied and glad you took a chance on "Abundance". Fiction fans will love this-- Definitely not limited to only romance readers. The suspenseful, fast-paced plot will thrill you, and again, has a Nicholas Sparks/Nora Roberts feel to it!!
Make sure to look "Abundance" up!! Ohhhhh, and did I mention there are HOT cowboys!? ;)
Shanna is a wonderful writer, really pulled me into the story. Natalie, the main character, is newly divorced from a horrible man, and heading back home to her parents to heal. She has a 4year old little girl, Dalli, who has had a very traumatic beginning. I found the first 30 percent of the book very hard for me to read, I have a high empathy and easily triggered and sensitive to horrible things happening to children. It is a nightmare situation that Natalie has been through. Jack, her parents ranch hand, falls for Natalie and Natalie has a struggle with trusting men again, rightly so! Jack seems to be patient and just wants to love Natalie and her daughter. Note: there are no graphic descriptions of abuse, it is just a very sensitive subject to me personally and can't stomach reading even the idea of a child being hurt. Story of angst, drama, love and redemption at its best! Thank you Shanna for the free story arc!
First off let me start by saying, Cowboy books normally aren't my thing, I can count on one hand the number I've read. In case your wondering, it's like four. Shanna Swenson blew my expectations.
ultimately I felt the time line was longer than indicated, but this story was a slow burn.
Jack was such a gentleman, a true nice guy. There was no badboy cowboy vibes at all. And ya know that was in the end my favorite thing about him.
Natalie and her daughter Dallie have been through so much. So much. (I'm gonna drop a possible trigger warning here) and on the other side of that Natalie is struggling to hold it together. She doesn't trust, she refuses to budge, and she's downright hostile to Jack in the beginning.
At times I found the story wordy, too many sentences to describe something, or to flesh out a paragraph. But what I did like was the character flips, we got to see things we normally wouldn't, a hint of what was coming. Or of what other characters seen, felt about things. And maybe even a set up for book two.
Overall, I'm glad I took a chance on this new author and her cowboy. I might just have to stick around Abundance a little longer 😍
Natalie Cameron is a strong female character from the start. Her car is broken down in a remote country road in Texas, her daughter is hungry, and all she wants to do is leave behind her life in Chicago and make a fresh start. Even when everything feels like it is going wrong, her “knight in shining armor” finds her singing to her daughter and showing more strength than some women would be able to have during this kind of life crisis. Rather than swoon upon first sight, she reveals her fighting spirit to protect herself and her daughter from the stranger. The stranger, Jack, actually works for her parents and can take her to her final stop on her road trip. The story doesn’t end there. The two have undeniable chemistry but have their own secrets that can topple their shaky levels of trust that they have for other people. Even though never of them want to get burned again in a relationship, there is so much heat coming off of their passion for each other.
Nicole is an outstanding writer and she did a wonderful job in this character driven romance. A young mother who returns home after breaking free from an abusive relationship—only to find herself attracted to a handsome cowboy who lives at her parents’ ranch. Their attraction is almost immediate and the sexual tension is on high-gear all through the story. There were a few things though, in my opinion, that just didn’t merit 5 stars. There were too many characters in the story—and every single male seemed to be attracted to Natalie which didn’t seem realistic. Jack’s character-development was inconsistent. Most of the time he was just a nice guy who she could trust—which I loved—but then at other times he came across as sex-crazed, jealous, and manipulative. The constant sexual advances were a bit too forward for his character. Especially so early in the story. Natalie’s inconsistencies, on the other hand, are justified considering her emotional rollercoaster of a past. As for Dallie, she’s the most adorable four-year-old ever! By far my favorite character. Overall, it was a good story. Easy to read and entertaining. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys a good contemporary cowboy romance 🙂 I was given this book in a giveaway and decided to review it voluntarily.
This was a well written book with some great characters that most people would love but I think the author didn’t give us the full drama that this story line could have produced. This could have been an amazing, thrilling read if some of evil side of the plot was filled out and explored more to round out the full story. At times I thought I was reading 2 different books. This wouldn’t put me off reading any of this author other books to see how they come together as this book could lead to some interesting story’s.
Abundance: An endearing romance novel, was such a lovely read. It had heart, excitement, angst, redemption, the list goes on and on. I came across this new author by chance on goodreads, and once I read her bio, I knew this book was for me. It was a bit longer than most of my reads but was filled with so many twists and turns it felt like a new book several different times but maintains a cohesive story. You can't help but fall in love with Jack and his no games attitude. The little girl, Dallie, is just the sweetest and you can see why everyone loves her. Natalie, the MC had me pulling out my hair several times, but she had me liking her in spite of this. If you enjoy love stories, cowboys with a little thriller on the side, I will recommend you take a trip to Abundance and visit the Starlight Valley Stables, you won't be disappointed.
This book was intense and so well written. Natalie's story was of a strong courageous woman that had me smiling with pride. Jack was the quiet in a once dark storm! Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful crazy story, i loved it.
