When Gargoyles Love #3

Calling of a Gargoyle

Rate this book
Cursed in a time when magic ruled the world.
Now reanimated, Declan Foley must not only learn how modern times work, but how modern women work.
He must convince his fairy that she is one before they alone can defeat a goblin threatening both of them. With his brothers warning not to toy with her heart ringing in his ears, he embarks on a quest to win it instead.
Fiona Brady is not interested in romance despite being instantly attracted to Declan. The man could sound sexy reading a phone book. Her burning passion is her art. When a sponsor comes along who is willing to pay for her to paint, she jumps at the chance. Little does she know he’s the goblin who is set on killing her.
Declan must race time and conquer his own impulsiveness to save Fiona and himself before he is cursed to be in stone for another millennia.

Long ago in Ireland, Seamus Foley, head guard of the fairies but prone to drink too much, had deflowered a fairy and she was now carrying his child. Their Queen said, since she could not punish Seamus himself – who had already been banished – she would instead punish his 3 sons. Therefore, the Foleys will no longer guard the fairies and are cursed to remain as stone at the church until a fairy they are destined to protect comes to them. They will have to remain with the fairy for a day before they will become alive again. The fairy will seek them when she is in danger and, if the gargoyle fails to save her from the danger, he will revert to stone again. Each of the 3 sons had their own special fairy or her offspring to save them; no one else could affect the curse. It sounded impossible.

Fiona Brady was an artist’s assistant for the up-and-coming Damien. What she really did was paint his last three masterpieces without getting any credit for it. Then he dumped her for a younger “muse”. She really wanted to do more sculpting, but she had signed a contract to not produce any other art while employed there, so she had to wait until early the next year when it expired. Meg and Donal are back from their honeymoon, Sean just asked Colleen to marry him, but Fiona was done with men for now. Sure enough, her selfish boss Damien called her to come in to work on Saturday night! He hung up before she could ask any questions. She grabbed the little gargoyle statue -- actually Donal and Sean’s brother, Declan -- off the island and asked Meg if she could take it with her to work as her muse. Meg and Donal glanced at each other, but agreed.

Declan was pleased that Fiona fell asleep on the studio floor when he came alive. He had been in her company for twenty four hours by then. And he had known as soon as he saw her in Meg’s kitchen the night before that she was his fairy. Now reanimated, as the last of the 3 cursed brothers, Declan Foley must not only learn how modern times work, but how modern women work. He was the youngest of the brothers, over-confident and impulsive. When a sponsor comes along who is willing to pay for Fiona to paint, she jumps at the chance, not knowing he is a goblin planning to kill her! Declan must convince his fairy of what she really is so that she realizes the serious danger from the goblin threatening them. But it won’t be easy to convince the stubborn Fiona! Can he make her see the truth? Can he save her?

Great short super fun story. This story is about the third brother. Declan is the third brother who was in the middle of his training when he was turned into a stone gargoyle until his mate showed up. She had to be his fated fairy. Fiona is done with men and is trying to get away from her old boss who didn't pay her for 3 masterpieces without getting any credit for her work. After he dumps her she trying to get out of her contract with him but at the last minute he needs her to work. She grabs a little gargoyle statue to take as her muse but didn't know it was Declan the last brother gargoyle. There is plenty of action, instat love and drama. Delan needs to really learn the how to take care of himself and his fairy without getting his fairy and himself killed by the goblin who is threatening them. These three boos were so much fun to read. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I received a copy from BookSprout; this is my honest review.
-Editing: There are several instances where the information is contrary. Fiona is not making any commissions, then she is and is worried about it. After that, there is the regular stuff: wrong names, wrong words, misspelled, etc.
-Only as an outsider questions the whereabouts of their sibling (sister or brother?) did one of the three brothers start thinking about it. A bit too late, I think. Nothing about the mother.
-Where did the church go now that the brothers are off the top?
-Fiona has a dark persona. She's depressing, has a low self-esteem, etc. I'm not sure she fits with outgoing Declan. He seems to always be happy.
-I still liked the story but it was too depressing as a romance book for my taste.

Time to take life seriously.

Declan is the youngest Foley brother, a player and the least experienced. Fiona is an artist and fairy, but she doesn't know it. When danger finds her, she is unwilling to listen to anyone. I was surprised as an artist she was so close-minded and assumed her closest friends would lie to her. She is so sure that as a single woman living in the city, she can take care of herself without anyone else's help. I loved Declan's charm and as "eye candy" he just ran with it. I have really appreciated this whole series, but Fi was not one of my favorite characters. I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of this book from Booksprout.

The best for last? Declan is the youngest. He was the least experienced when he was cursed. Fiona was an artist's assistant for Damien. She did most of the work and he got the credit. She had about a year left on her contract where she couldn't product any other works. Fi got lost in her visions of what her work could become. Fi and Declan's goblin challenge came with a little baggage and Declan had a lot of work to do since Fi wasn't interested in romance. Declan was likeable, Fiona was a challenge. Good story. The third book in the When Gargoyles Love series a well written story that kept me turning pages. This is Gargoyle Declan Foley and Fairy Fiona Brady's story, there is suspense, drama, danger, a Goblin villain, and romance. I enjoyed reading this story. For the most part i liked it.

I didn't give 5 stars because she got on my last nerve. She was so negative. Like she couldn't be happy. Then bang the end.

2.5 stars

I would recommend reading the previous books before reading this one.

Declan is the youngest of the Foley brothers, gargoyles cursed to stone by the Fairy Queen. Brought to America by his brother to hopefully find his fairy and break the curse. Even when the others (Declan's brothers and Fiona friends) realize that Fiona is Declan's fairy they don't seem to take the steps to help acclimate her to the danger she is going to face. They have seen what happened in the previous instances, so their lack of action seemed pointless. Fiona seemed unnecessarily combative in how she dealt with both Declan and her friends. I get that Damien had been emotionally abusive to her and undermined her self-confidence, but her reactions were self-destructive with the people she should have trusted, but then she trusts a total stranger. I felt the ending was just too quick and there were hints of things in the series that was never really developed. The series just felt incomplete in the end.
