Trixie Lavender here, ex-nun on the run with her demon friends Coop and Livingston the talking owl in tow!

Things have been going really well for us at our tattoo shop in Cobbler Cove, a district in the heart of Portland, Oregon. We’re making friends with our fellow shop owners, enjoying serving our community, and really getting to know our new friends, Higgs, Knuckles, and Goose.

When we’re invited to a Halloween party at the Peach Street Shelter, how can we resist spending some time with our favorite ex-undercover police officer turned shelter owner Higgs, on a day that involves candy and costumes?

Unfortunately, the day also involves a murder, a spooky urban myth spreading like wildfire among the homeless population about an organ-stealing-madman, and of course, my testy and unpredictable demonic possession…

Join me, Coop, Higgs and the rest of the gang as we relentlessly hunt for answers to the murder of a local dentist and the legend of The Organ Grinder!

House of the Rising Nun by Dakota Cassidy

3rd in the Nun of Your Business Mystery series. You need to read these in order.
Ex-Nun Trixie and pals stumble around to solve another murder.
Fun and irreverent. Sure, you figure out the bad guy fairly early, but the twists and turns are entertaining and, once again, Trixie is the one in danger.

I enjoyed this book and look forward to more.

Back again. Trixie’s back with the whole crew! Higgs, Coop, Knuckles, Goose, Jeff,Livingston, Tansy, and even Solomon. When a local business owner generally considered to be a good guy is killed at a party attended by Trixie and the gang at the shelter, his employees beg Trixie to investigate the death. During her investigation she learns the name of the demon possessing her!! as he’s toying with her and giving her little clues about a suspect. There are missing homeless men to find, and urban legend to decipher, and Her feelings for Higgs to … puzzle over.

This was another fun, humorous addition to the series. Coop is still learning how to be human and Trixie is learning how to be an ex-nun while struggling with her belief system. The twists and turns help move the story along, but it’s the friendships, relationships and development of the characters that keep you coming back for more.

4.5 Stars... Back with our favorite cast of characters, readers are once again thrust into the center of a complex mystery... Sister Trixie leads the way when everyone's favorite dentist is found murdered at a Halloween party... Little does she know the depths of the mystery and where it could possibly lead... With a thrilling and chilling ending that leaves the heart pounding, this mystery is one for the record books... With each read, we watch as Trixie becomes more confident and self assured; Coop finds her sensitive, genuine side; and Higgs lets down his guard leading to some interesting developments... Truly enjoyable, laugh out loud moments coupled with some intensity, and then softened with some tenderness... Another really fun and exciting read:)

This is a terrific addition to this mystery series. Add in Halloween hi-jinx and a mystery for a fun and entertains book. I didn’t want to put this book down. I laughed and was on the edge of my seat trying to figure out “whodunit.” This is a book (and series) definitely worth reading.

Stars: Overall 4 Narration 5 Story 4

Spun off from the Witchless in Seattle series, Sister Trixie Lavender – excommunicated nun, an owl familiar in Livingston, and BFF the demon Coop. I did miss the second in this series - and while I would have liked to know beforehand how the rest of this cast of characters was introduced, Cassidy does a wonderful job in the fill in -and the mystery and hijinks can stand on their own. But it’s Halloween time and there’s a party at the Peach Tree Shelter that Higgs (former undercover cop and friend of Trixie) now owns and manages. Of course, the setting is urban and after a murder there are rumors spreading like wildfire through the homeless population as the worries of an ‘organ snatcher’ is increasing as the worry about the murder (and the suspect) are still being hunted.

And like all of the books before this (and most of this author’s cozy mysteries) the interactions, laughs, missteps and Trixie’s seeming inability to carry on a conversation (with human or ghostly friends) continues laden with sitcom-like references, a bit of self-deprecation and plenty of good intentions. When you add in an accidental (?) demonic possession, plenty of red herrings and a few twists – loaded with laughs – you get a perfectly lovely way to spend a few hours and be entertained. A great installment in the series and one that is sure to please fans of laughter, mystery and some quirky and utterly enjoyable characters.

Narration for this series is provided by Hollie Jackson, who has jumped up my list of people I’d listen to reading the telephone book. Nuanced emotions, dead-on delivery of punch lines, clearly delineated characters and easy to understand both what is spoken and unspoken without ever resorting to ‘overwork’ either plot, voice or moment this listen is one of those times when review and enjoyment cross paths in delightful ways.

I received an AudioBook copy of the title from Tantor Audio for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclclusions are my own responsibility.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
I loved the book!
How can Trixie, Coop, and Livingston resist a Halloween party ?
They can't.
You know that something is going to happen at the party.
It is bound to.
Another murder + another mystery for them to solve.
I loved the storytelling + the characters.
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!
I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Trixie Lavender is an Ex-Nun with treachery in her way. If only she was found in a compromising situation. I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book.

Enjoyable little story. The combination of the highly-hyphenated possessed-ex-nun and a gorgeous demon just trying to blend in with the addition of a hoot of a demon-owl might just be genius. In this age of the snarky, kick-ass heroine, it is nice to discover at least one author is writing series with heroines who are genuinely nice...not buried under attitude nice, but just, simply NICE. Refreshing.

often humans manage to not act very humanely to other folks

Higgs and the gang might work with or fundraise for his homeless shelter, but not all people in and around the area saw the folks as equals, sometimes even folks who were trying to help

managing demons, dangers, prejudiced folks, and others who are just plain greedy or jerks makes for dramatic, action packed Trixie and Coop and the gang adventures reading- cutting edge!

Monkey Business

When a good man is killed at Higgs Halloween party, teaming up with Trixie to investigate makes sense, as the local dentist was adored by everyone though it might be a harder puzzle than they thought. There is also the fact that street peopleare going missing anc no one seems to care, except Trixie, Coop, Higgs and their friends.

Great series!

Just when I think I can't enjoy this series more, the author proves me wrong! The characters are so rich and developing more and more from book to book. The mystery is wrapped up by the end, but back stories and history carry from one book to the next so you'll want to read them in order. You won't be sorry If you pick up this series!

scary fun

It’s all fun at the pre Halloween party til some gets dead.
Trixie really tries to stay out of it this time, but multiple pleas bring her in.
She figured it out in a very exciting climax of a very evil plan.

Top of the line

I definitely love the characters in this series .I just wish they weren't so fluffy. They all need some balls. Cool also needs a much bigger part! No one has any color or spice almost boring and predictable.

Fun third book in the series. We get new information about a certain thing (I won’t spoil it), that made it more interesting as far as where the series will go next.

The characters are supernatural and there was more of the supernatural at play in this book. Getting a little tired of the romantic interest that Trixi has that she is still “figuring out”.
