I'd not known of Mr. Netmaker. Picked this up on a sale. Have listen to many personal development books, so have lots to compare to. The author does a mostly excellent job of weaving in his own experiences into several tried and true personal development ideas and as a result offers a fresh perspective on many ideas that have been kicked around for years.
What makes this book worth listening to is to hear about the personal development tactics, mantras, ways of thinking from a First Nations man, who grew up on and off reserve. This is what makes the book interesting and unique and even powerful. It is wonderful to hear how Mr. Netmaker, who against the odds, continually took lemons and made lemonade with some help along the way.
The listen is not without its challenges. While Mr. Netmaker does a solid job reading, the editing of the book lacks polish and towards the end of the book I found the narrative a bit disjointed and one important story about the author's sister, though inspiring, seemed misplaced (perhaps she could write her own book?!). I suspect these issues are due to this being the author's first book. These issues aside, it is a short and excellent listen that I would recommend.
It's a solid first work and I'd like to see more content from Mr. Netmaker.
Wow! What an amazing story! and what an amazing role model and mentor for all, including and especially First Nations people. It was the name Netmaker that caught my attention because I'm from Saskatchewan and I know other Netmakers. Also I know of Neechie clothing that those references got me to buy this book. Money well spent! I give this writing my full recommendation! I enjoyed this book from from to back and I can definitely see myself reading this one again. Thankfully I own a copy in my library so I will re-read in a month or so. Thank you for this great read Kendal! This was an awesome read! Like Bob Proctor said... 'buy 2 copys and give one to a friend'... I second that!! Great book. Check it out!
If you would like to learn about a real Indigenous lifestyle and be inspired by how a person can set goals and achieve them against all odds, Driven to Succeed, written by Kendal Netmaker, is the book I would recommend to you. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning how they can build a successful situation and dreams from the worst circumstances. In my opinion, Kendal's story is very helpful and motivational story for current youth because most of them do not have enough motivation. Unfortunately, they believe that to achieve their goals they need to have good financial source and background. Although they have a lot of opportunity and talent, they would not like to try new challenges in their life.
I'm pretty sure I got this book because it was an Audible Deal of the Day. Knowing that it was written by a Canadian was enough for me to give it a shot. I really enjoyed listening to Kendal's story and could picture the places he talked about because I grew up not too far away from him. Some of the audiobook was a little robotic in the reading, but when he gets to the success principals that is when he really comes alive and you can sense his passion for the topic. I enjoyed listening to this and will probably listen to it again in the future.
Again, didn’t know who this guy was before reading the book. Loved the story. It’s great he had clarity and focus to get himself and the organizations he supports so far at such a young age. He obviously sees everything as something to learn from. More people, including myself, need to take that type of inventory of their lives more often. Excellent book to read on Canada’s inaugural truth and reconciliation holiday!! 🇨🇦❤️
Another success story, but a Canadian story about life on an Indian reservation. Struggles happen in life, and Kendal wrote a story about his. There were a few a-ha moments and a lot of positivity. A quick audiobook.
An exceptional story about an exceptional man. Not particularly well written but he’s a story teller and entrepreneur, not a writer. Regardless, he is an inspirational Canadian 🇨🇦
I admire the author for being completely real and not leaving out the hard parts, when writing about his life. It makes his success, a reward we can all aspire to.
I enjoyed Kendal Netmaker's personal story, and hope he inspires others who are not born into privilege. Living a sober life and making the decision to spend time with people who inspire one to be their best, and reach of their potential, are important take aways. The steps to success seem mostly reasonable, although not unique.
