When all new threats are dealt with, old enemies emerge from the shadows.
Dean Parker has brought his wife home, and he’s looking forward to relaxing and having a future with his family on New Spero. The Iskios vortex is gone, vanquished by the Hero of Earth, but unforeseen enemies linger in the universe.
The Bhlat send a warning to the humans, one that suggests the Kraski may not all be dead. All signs point to Lom of Pleva, a wealthy and very dangerous enemy to have.
Dean must unite with the Bhlat to fight against a common adversary, but when push comes to shove, can he trust them?
Join Dean and the others as they seek to save themselves from the race of beings that beamed them off Earth years ago, setting everything in motion.
Who do you turn to when everyone is trying to kill you?
The awesome brain of the author Nathan Hystad is back! Reviewing a series is not always simple because you never know what comes in the next book ( ex: the last one was good but not as good as the first four ), but this one made up for it and much more. Truly excellent couldn’t stop listening to it from the first sentence all the way to the ending, only then I fell asleep and now after waking up I’m typing this. As usual narration is spot on.
Absolutely recommended!
I’ve received this audiobook for an honest review.
Just another awesome book from my new favorite author. I love this series. Recommended read! Couldn't stop reading book after book each as good as the last.
I'm so glad to learn there will be one more book in this series. I've just finished the first six books in this fantastic series and feel like the main characters are old friends. The author very skillfully enables you to become comfortable with a number of alien species and we learn that many attributes, styles, and behaviors we presume are human are actually common across many different alien cultures. They may look very different having different body designs but they all seem to value family and friends and have home styles that encourage entertaining. I personally dislike reviews that are "HS Book Report" type summaries. These summaries are provided by all authors and are better than any reviewer could do. The subject matter of this book and series address an alien invasion of earth and how a group of people has been prepared to address this. They manage to save most of the human population and relocate to an earth-like distant planet. There are a number of alien species that help and hinder these relocation efforts and the series chronicles the many issues that evolve from this. The book and series are filled with action, plot twists, betrayals, narrow escapes, loyal relationships, and unusual alliances. Anyone reading this will have all the needs and desires they look for in not just a Sci-Fi story but an action-adventure love story as well.
Dean, Mary, Slate and Suma are successfully rescued from Sterona, in return for Magnus to be a Keppe pilot on an exploratory vessel for a few years with his family. Dean returns knowing that the Kraski are still alive under the power and wealth of Lom from Pevla. There is a mole that allows the Kraski into the New Spero atmosphere where they attack Dean and his team on a tour in Terran 13. They escape with the last living Theo, who is very special to Dean. They setup a trap that allows Dean to send Lom of Pevla when he meets with a Kraski on a universal space station to trade for Kalo. They use a portal that was created by the Empress and The Blhat (their deals still holding up) to send him to a desolate ice island thousands of light away from any planets. Lom finds out through the mole Denise (who was a hybrid this whole time) where he was going to be transported. He sends a team to rescue him when they arrive there, only thats not his destination anymore. Kalo is recovered and Dean kills Denise in front of Slate. That just leaves Dean and Lom on the ship that is so far away from anything that it just blows the human mine. Driven out by the robot assistant and rigged with explosives, there is no escape for either man, it was a suicide mission for Dean. He used the trigger, but the explosive doesn't detonate. He transports Lom to 20 years in the future. He finds a communicator hidden and tells his team to set up the portal. He gets back safely.

Nathan Hystad continues the saga of Dean Parker in "Old Enemy," the sixth in the Survivors series. Parker had wanted some time off, a respite from trying to save mankind from all sorts of threats nobody had an inkling of until ships teleported nearly every man, woman and child into massive ships. Parker joined with a team of protected cohorts and saved what he could of humanity. Then reality hit. Earth proved a bit player in a massive interstellar gambit. In this episode, Parker must enlist the aid of a race he'd rather be done with to battle a common enemy. There's betrayal, heartbreak and the power of true love. Hystad creates a heck of a story with each volume, and each one treads new territory. I started the first and didn't stop until this one. It was at that point I realized he had many more entries in the series ahead of me. I will pick it up again, and the Survivors will likely suck me like it did before.
I'm not going to review each and every of the 18, so far, books in this series because it would be exhausting. Suffice it to say, as I just this morning told my son, to have the talent to write a series of 18 books (so far) and each and every book be as engaging, thrilling and be able to pull a reader right into the story instead of being a spectator to it is so rare and his books do that. From book 1 to the current book 18. Also, these are not novellas or short stories. Each in this series is a full on NOVEL. I've been opened to genres I never thought I'd be interested in before and it's writers like Nathan Hystad that make that possible .... that make reading ..... an important part of my life.
Dean, Mary and friends head to new trouble with Old Enemies
Dean, Mary, Slate and Denise have really pissed off Lom of Pleva, and he's not happy. When Kraski appear and kidnap the last Theos, Dean knows that his old enemies were not as extinct as he'd thought! It will take the combined might of every friend he'd ever made to fix this one! The same mix of characters we've gotten to know and love are back, saving the Universe.
With high expectations, the storyline delivers the excitement! Our favorite characters lead us through surprising and deadly events, as usual. And, as usual, the storyteller has presented an amazing great read!
Really enjoyed the survivors books. When I first read the blurb about a mysterious necklace and alien invasion of Earth I thought "Really?!" and had it low down on my maybe list. Then I ran out of books and was onto my maybe list and I am really glad it was there because there were three excellent series waiting for me there! I have really enjoyed following Dean on his massive adventure across the universe. The books have been exciting to read and the plots clear but full, I'm just sorry the story is over! Looking forward to Nathan's new Residence series!
A NH. SYFY. Novel (TSB. - 6)/After Many Directions One Direction is All That Remains
NH. has. penned a SYFY. novel that brings the reader from one planet to the next by unusual means. The adventurers have resorted to a reliable spacecraft to perform a rescue mission. They track the subject to a hidden planet where his intended awaits his arrival. They find the subject on a water world and then the chase begins without the chasers realizing whT they were chasing into. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
This is the sixth book in the series that I've read - one after another. I'm definitely ready for a new genre.
Dean Parker has had adventure after adventure. This book is about his "old enemy" Lom of Pleva. Of course there are chases across the universe, lots of action and the hero is ... (don't want to spoil the tale)
Old Enemy, book six in the Survivors saga. I felt this book was better than the previous couple, a better plotline, more intrigue, more interesting, more entertaining, and more enjoyable. Still got the handy and convenient factor to it, but it's part of the course, and something I have to accept, but still find frustrating at times. An all round better book.
Discovering the events that lead to The Event that changed billions of lives, Dean Parker finds that his old foe isn’t exactly what they were. A new alliance forms to finally defeat the Kraski but it’s not the new Alliance that truly defeats their biggest enemy.
Clean sci-fi with such a varied cast of characters. Fight for survival continues, and the adventures of new worlds keep the story moving via time travel and portals. The Survivor series is an enjoyable trip into escape, space, new homes and aliens. Need more.
If you have become as enthralled in this series as I have ,you will know what I mean. Dean With the help of this friends and a few that aren't. Manage to finally put and end to all the pain and death around them in a unique fashion.
Following the entire series, it was thick with Plots and sub-plots. Sometimes the names of alien races would sometimes be hard to follow but overall a very good read. Looking forward to his next book.
The series with Dean Parker captured me from the first book of the series and has been a thrilling story right to the end of book number 6. I must read if you are looking to be moved from the present to the future and back again.
This is another great book in this series. Once started it is hard to stop reading these books. The story line is very good and linear. Each book leads into the next one. Great characters with believable emotions.
It starts out fast paced with Dean and Mary stranded. Thank goodness for his close friend Magnus just one of the many characters in this series. I really like the relationship portion of his books and look forward to the next one
Enthralling , fast paced and very well written. You get caught up being a part of the family then friends. One question though. If there were 7 billion people on earth when this all started, how many people actually survived in total?
Well written and enjoyable characters. Looking forward to the rest of the series. I think requiring a word count on these reviews is rediculous. Many times I wont leave review because of this requirement.
This was the last of the first box set I have and it was a good read. It's certainly imaginative with interesting characters and a twist in the plot now and again.
The series grinds to a halt as Hystad's previously bottomless pit of innovative ideas dries up and we return to a dull plot that seems more cash in than reboot.
Too low effort to warrant a high effort review... but this isn't the worst sci-fi to have been churned out in the last decade.
Totally enjoyed this book. A wonderful ending awaits the reader. It was every thing I expected and more. Thanx and high praise to Mr. Hystad for this wonderful series.
The Heroes of Earth make some new friends and face some old enemies. I thought this would be the conclusion of this series but, I learned that #7 will be out round March of 2019.
