A HOPELESS ROMANTIC

Abby Carpenter longs for the type of romance she reads about in books. She cares for predictable, practical Logan Fletcher, but he doesn’t seem overly interested in winning her heart. Are magic, fireworks and passion too much to ask for? Then she meets Tate Harding, the handsome stranger who might just be the excitement she’s been looking for. He can’t be for real—he’s the kind of man dreams are made of.

Logan thought things between him and Abby were great. He’s never been one for flowery displays of emotion, and he assumed Abby knew how he felt. But when a new man comes into town, Logan might just need to fight for Abby—and prove once and for all he loves her. But does an everyday guy like Logan have a chance against a man like Tate?

Laughter In The Rain
This was a nice feel good book. The main character has just been going along with a nice predictable relationship. She meets someone who makes her think she wants something more. Making a choice sends her on a journey to growing up and figuring out what is really important. The relationships and conflicts are done well and the pacing is good.

Engaged To The Single Mom
This one I had more mixed feelings about. While most of the story was done well, I felt that the ending of the story was too rushed. The writing itself was good and the pacing of the story was a little slow, but still flowed well.

2 in 1!!
I enjoyed both of the novels in this book. They were quite different, but equally good.
LAUGHTER IN THE RAIN:
True to her roots, Macomber intrigues the reader with complex characters and realistic situations. Love and personal discovery throughout.
ENGAGED TO A SINGLE MOM:
Tobin also employs character-based storytelling and adding a religious element. Angelica and Troy were once engaged, but split up when she was assaulted and became pregnant. Her son was born and she faced many hardships, medically and financially. She returns home, ends up being employed by Troy and a second engagement ensues. And, all of the resulting trials and tribulations of the past come to bear.

Debbie Macomber is an amazing author. Her books are a relaxing read. Although a bit predictable but I am not a romance fan. I just wanted something light to read for at the beach. I definitely enjoyed it. I didn't read the 2nd book, I am sure it is good if Debbie agreed to have it paired with hers.

I enjoyed the second story better than the first. I forced myself to finish the first story because I wanted to throttle both main characters for lack of communication and jumping to conclusions. They continued to go around in circles the entire story and never showed growth or maturity.

This was the first story by her I didn’t enjoy.

A HOPELESS ROMANTIC. I’ve read better Debbie Macomber books. Abby was pretty wishy-washy, going back and forth between Logan and Tate. Tate only wanted her teaching skills, and Logan had trust issues. Just not a very engaging story.
ENGAGED TO THE SINGLE MOM. This story was a little better, although Troy also had some trust issues, and so did Angelica. I loved what a good mother she was.

This was have been an excellent short story and a good novella. There just simply wasn’t enough story here for a novel. The constant breakup and get back together tug-of-war got ridiculous less than halfway through the book. Macomber is a better writer than this.

The Debbie Macomber book was good, but not as good as her more recent books. The second "free" book was corny Christian fiction with no suspense; I knew how the book would end by the end of the first chapter.

There was no tension, no real story here.

Both books were very easy reads. If you look for a juicy or racy book, neither of these are it. These are very PC and sweet.

While it is a typical novel for Debbie, I am so glad that she introduced us to Lee Tobin McClain. I fell in love with his characters, story, and his writing! Thank you Debbie!
