The Dead Saga #6

Odium VI The Dead Saga

Rate this book
In the sixth book of the Dead Saga series, Nina is fighting more than just her demons; she’s waging war upon evil, because the greatest enemy now isn’t the deaders—it’s humans.

Determined to eradicate the Savages from earth, Nina must settle an age-old argument and bring together mortal enemies. Because it’s more than just their own survival at risk now…it’s everyone’s.

Running blindly toward danger is what Nina does best—only this time her eyes are wide open. She knows the risks, but she also knows that time is running out for Mikey; the Savages are hungry, and they’ll only play with their food for so long.

Nina must eventually make the choice between love and survival, because in a world gone mad, you can’t have both, and no matter how much you want to stay, sometimes it’s easier to say goodbye.

"I wanted to live."
description

Odium VI is the sixth book in The Dead Saga Series. This series has kept me on the edge of my seat with each and every installment. As the world is crumbling around them Nina, Mikey, and Shooter find themselves fighting more than just zombies. Nina finds herself broken over the fear of losing Mikey and the fear of falling into Shooter's arms. When life and death are on the line, Nina has never been shy about fighting to the death. Tensions continue to rise as death and destruction continue to reign.

description
"With Mikey there was always now and not forever."
Told in multiple POV, Odium VI is another stunning installment to the series. Claire C. Riley never fails to amaze me with her complex characters and gripping plot. Love triangles tend to evoke severe anxiety out of me and yet, with the end of the world looming, I found myself confused over who Nina should be with. The plot is packed with action, romance, and brokenness with each turn of the page. Be forewarned, the terror, blood, and gore are a constant presence in this read so the faint of heart should definitely shy away.
"I realized that despite all of it, I felt safe with him."
Overall, Odium VI and The Dead Saga would appeal greatly to readers who enjoy a dystopian romance with an element of horror interlaced throughout. I find myself conflicted over the direction the series is headed and yet, this is one journey (no matter how rough and raw) that I am committed to seeing through to the end. After that ending, I cannot wait for the next installment!

Genre:  Dark Apocalypse/Dysthopia
Type:  Book 6 from The Dead Saga Series
POV:  First Person - Multiple

So, this book is so hard for me to review because this series has been one of my favorite series ever and sadly this book gave me an ulcer and I honestly don't even know how to feel, I feel angry and empty inside but here we go LOL.

Odium 6 teaser

This book opens up with my baby Mikey; the world is falling apart and he has been capture by some evil cannibals.   I am freaking out the entire time obviously.  While Mikey is fighting for survival Nina finds herself conflicted with finding out about Mikey's capture.

"I was going out fighting to the bitter end, or I was getting the hell out of there."

"Somewhere along the dirt road of devastation I had lost my way and I wasn't sure how I could find my way back."

When Nina is all confused and shit with her feelings I wanted to smack some senses into her.  If you know me I am 100% team #Mikey and no amount of badass biker will change that for me ... nothing... soooo snap out of it Nina!!!

So this was me when Nina finally wakes up from her bubble and decides to do something

When an EPIC scene finally happened that I was dying to happen I was like...

But then immediately something I absolutely hate hate it happened and I found myself throwing my kindle ... not far just on the other side of the bed but still... haha

Nina's thoughts are totally blinded with her confused feelings of what she wants and needs.  The biker's club has taken her under their wings and she finally is feeling safe but to what cost.  I honestly found myself super frustrated with Nina in this book.  I understood some of her fears but in the other hand that doesn't mean I liked it.  Reading the first fifty percent was a struggle for me because I guess I wasn't a fan of the other guy and didn't anticipate ANGST overload for me personally.

When finally I thought Nina had seen the light and woken up to the Nina I have come to loved since the beginning of the series I had more hope.   I hated how she easily gave up; I had very high hopes for Mikey and Nina to finally re unite.  This couple I have come to love with all my heart I cannot let go of them.
"O'Donnell wasn't Nina. And that was who my heart still belonged to."

"I just couldn't get Mikey out of my head. I couldn't forget him.  Because what I felt for Mikey was so much more."

I guess that's why I am hurting so damn much right now and I have so much anger.  I think readers who are following the series will love this book specially if you liked the last book.  I enjoyed a lot of scenes specially from sixty percent till ninety nine percent; it was loaded with action and feels, it gave me all the feels again that I loved from the beginning of the Odium series.  However; when I reached the very last chapter Nina turns around disappointing me once again and this time I don't think I can look at her the same.  I will go hide in my bed and angry cry myself to sleep instead.

4 Stars!!

“The only thing this world was made for was death. It’ll kill us all equally, given the chance,” he said darkly. “Doesn’t matter whether you’re a man or a woman, black or white, gay or straight. Death is coming for us all.”

Pretty much felt like that guy reading this one.... this book pissed me off so bad.. I rated it a 4 because duh - writing but like if we wanna rate this based on emotions... big fat 2! BECAUSE I AM NOT OK after that cliffhanger.

Not much has changed as far as my love for this series. I have literally been on the edge of my seat for this whole ride. The world is starting to completely fall apart around Nina and Mikey. They find themselves fighting something bigger than the zombies. But when death is all there is- Mikey and Nina both run into danger willingly. And the reader is caught up in all this mess dealing with their emotions alone. ITS SO MUCH FUN! (enter sarcasm)

The plot continues to be full of action, heartache, death and romance. There is still the constant presence of blood, gore, and terror. We see humans being worse than the deaders/zombies in this one.

Nina continues to try and work out her feelings between Mikey and Shooter.

"Shooter and I were two different people. We came from two very different worlds. And if it weren’t for the apocalypse, we never would have met."

The whole love triangle thing in the middle of an apocalypse gives me anxiety... and I need her to figure her crap out. We lost a few people and met some new ones. We see a little bit more of clans working together and seeing a bigger threat.

Overall- I'm ready for the next book. This one made me angry but also, kept me entertained. My ship is just sinking and I need it to not do that!! If you haven't picked up this series, I still 100 percent recommend you go do it!!

The Dead Saga is the type of series you hope to never see the end of. Each book is just as great as the last and Claire Riley continues to surprise me while never losing sight of the heart of the book. Many series either lose their steam or just keep repeating the same storyline over and over, but lucky for me The Dead Saga isn’t one of those.

In book six we are taken back to the post-apocalyptic world of cannibals, zombie/deaders, Nina, Mikey, a couple biker gangs and a few other friends, both new and old. I still haven’t decided how I feel about O’Donnell. Crazypants makes an appearance, though I wish she had more screen time as she is one of my favorites.

Nina is still impulsive and can be something of a brat at times, but she has grown as a person immensely. She doesn’t seem as selfish or stupid as she started out and that is something I can appreciate. She used to drive me a little nuts with some of her antics but she has definitely evolved.

We learn more about the Devil’s Highwaymen and the Devil’s Rejects, their backstories and reasoning behind their feud. The Dead Saga is now slightly tied into Riley’s Devil’s Highwaymen MC Romance series. I’ve read all of the Odium books so far but I’ve only just started reading the Devil’s Highwaymen. I haven’t run into anything that made it imperative to read the other series before Odium, so if MC Romance isn’t your thing, worry not, you will still have plenty of info about them in the Odium books.

Overall, this is another great story in this series. The only thing I wish was different is I wish there had been a bit more action, but that’s just me being picky. There is plenty in Odium VI to be surprised about. That ending though!

Seriously??? What am I going to do with you Claire Riley!!

Another exciting and intense ride in the insane and chaotic world of Nina and her wide array of friends and enemies. I cannot honestly say I did not see some of this installment coming a mile away, I just honestly hoped I would be wrong! The world of Odium collided with Shooter and his crew, so we got to see more of our favorites again, years later. That was interesting! Nina truly has her hands full with Shooter, and his alpha ways. She is not one to be brushed aside and treated like a weak female. So her standing up for herself is always fun to watch.
Where the last one left off, is where we begin. Saving Mickey is the only thing that matters to Nina and O'Donnell. Getting two rival mc crews together to do it was never going to be easy, and things certainly never goes as planned. If you want to know more you'll have to read it! Definitely a not to be missed in the Odium saga, it's certainly full of excitement! I am not looking forward to the wait for the next Dr one, even if it is only a few months away.
Well done, another five stars star read from the Zombie Queen herself.

Book 6 in the heart-racing post-apocalyptic series, Odium! I’m so in love with this series by the awesome @readheadapocalypse . As soon as it was released I 1-clicked and dived right in. Zombies and cannibals. Definitely my best choice of book for Halloween…

“Pain? What pain?”

« In a world so full of darkness, try to be the light. »

“The world’s a cruel, dark place, Nina. But if you really look, you’ll always be able to find some good in the darkness.”
“How can you be so certain, Shooter?”
“Because the moon comes out every night, don’t it And even on the darkest nights, the stars still pierce the blackness up there. We’ve all gotta be the stars to break up the blackness. We’ve gotta keep getting up, keep surviving, keep going, even with nothing to light our way. Because things will get better. They always do. Eventually the moon comes back and fills the sky again, right?”

“Don’t give up. Never give up, dead Nina.”

“And in a world filled with fear, fury, and death, having hope was everything.”

Holy freakin hell!!

My nerves and my heart have been sitting on live land mine throughout this entire book- and Claire C Riley just lit the fuse and detonated my freaking world.

I want to cry, to shout, to get on my knees and beg her for more because this cannot be the end!

So much nerve wracking intensity and oh the suspense!! Old gangs reunited- and as new allies are forged new rivalries begin... so many worlds collide and as pieces fit together I felt myself falling apart...
Odium 6 is told in multi person POV. The story telling my Ms Riley is beyond phenomenal.

My world is in pieces but I cling to a glimmer of hope- truthfully I’m still processing... and as much as I want to feel strong and hopeful I feel like a piece of me has been snuffed out.

But... Mikey is safe- he had the heart and soul of a fighter, a true warrior; and Nina is is the epitome of a heroine- she has the kind of strength that will make men the toughest of men want to fight for the greater good and a bravery where she can look a monster in the eye and not cower- where there’s life there’s hope... and okay I’ll admit I like the friendship that O’Donnell and Nina have- but still I stay true to #NiKey

“As long as air still filled our lungs, we still had a chance. We still had hope. And in a world filled with fear, fury, and death, having hope was everything.”

5++ Stars of HOPE

Well that was a different perspective

I loved books 1 through five. It seems book 6 turned more into a biker romance/biker novel then the zombie apocalypse. It was OK but not up to par with the other five. I am hoping the next one gets back more into the type of books that the first 54. There was just a bit too much romance for my taste. I do not mind some romance in books I read but it was just a bit much for me. And it was 90% bike a romance/bike a turf in the storyline just kind of meandered around a bit too much. I almost quit reading in the middle. I kept reading hoping somewhere that it would turn into the action pack thrill rides that the first five books for but it never did. Keeping my fingers crossed that books 7 gets back into their first fives type of storytelling

Seriously......that ending!!!! Really, the whole book just had me all over the place, because holy smokes this one was intense! But after I finished, I was just so mad at what happened, even though I was happy at the same time. I just have so many feelings for everyone that we've come to know - but my main thoughts were thank goodness Mikey was safe but Nina - my heart just broke for her on so many levels. I know this is going to change things for her. Can't wait to see how it all plays out in book 7!

Oh My God!!!! This book! I thought I had been run through the ringer in all the previous books....every emotion I could possibly know...I was WRONG! Claire dug in deep with this one and left me with another cliffhanger!!! Now I wait patiently (or not) for book 7 to drop so I can end the torture. I read this book in 4 days between work and other things....that was how good it was. I cannot wait for the next steps in Nina's journey - and Mikey too! Ugh and all the other people I am now developing feelings for. Great read!

Loved it

Claire Riley writes these characters so well that you can picture them and even imagine the smells. I really loved this series,in particular, they way she combines romance and horror. No dull moments. If you like romance or zombies then try them together and read this series. In fact, read her other works too.

Wow!

Spoilers! If you haven’t read entirely, don’t read this review…you’ve been warned!

Mostly awesome! Some things were wrong, which is just aggravating. At the end, as Mikey is rescued, Nina literally states that she is stepping out of view as she doesn’t know how it will affect Mikey’s mental health if he were to see her, as he still thinks that she’s dead. Few paragraphs later, she’s saying how O’Donell is walking by and glances at her, both of them conveying to each other with just a single look, that they both know that Mikey made his choice between the two of them: O’Donell. But the fact that he’s safe is all that matters, even if it kills her to know that Mikey didn’t choose her. But that is 100% incorrect, and I have no idea whatsoever why Ms. Riley would even write that! Are we supposed to be dumb and not remember that she literally just said that he still thinks that Nina is dead…so dumb that we don’t recall her saying that just a FEW CHAPTERS PRIOR?!?! This in my opinion was a stupid mistake, and I hope that she clarifies in the next book that Nina knows that Mikey absolutely did NOT choose O’Donell over Nina, seeing as how you cannot make a choice if you believe that one of the people are dead!!

Also, it irritates me that Nina is always on her “high horse” and always thinks that she knows better than anyone else…about just about EVERYTHING! Only she is smart enough to make decisions, and throws a temper tantrum every single time things do not go her way. And also every single time she doesn’t GET her way! And lastly, Nina seriously has no right whatsoever being mad and hurt knowing that Mikey has been with O’Donell, seeing as how he truly believes that Nina’s dead! Did he move on too quickly? Hell yeah! But it’s the freaking zombie apocalypse, and the world and the remaining people in it aren’t the same anymore! So it’s just very irritating and hypocritical for her to be so mad and hurt by this, ESPECIALLY when she hooked up with Shooter about the same dang time!

Ok, rant over! Sorry, I just wanted to leave an honest review and opinion! Too many times we see people posting glowing reviews because they get free stuff in return. I just wanted to post an actual honest account of what I’ve read, and what I think! I really do love this series, and I love Nina. She just irritates me to no end sometimes!

Waiting on book 9

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
❤️❤️❤️/5
🌶🌶.5/5

This series is one I walked into not know much about. Sure I read the description and some of the reviews but that didn't even describe what I was about to read. This series is all about details and I love every mind of it! The author did a wonderful job putting thought into every character, chapter, romance and chemistry there is. This series will keep you on your toes and will stop at nothing to keep the romance, adventure, sadness, and overall plot together.

What I love the most:
- characters: all of them even the evils ones are so thought our and do their jobs to the fullest.
- Though sometimes the two main characters don't get a break the end of the world never stops giving people hardship and that's just reality.

What is wish was different:
- I wanted more of MMC and FMC to have a little bit more togetherness and romance in book 1. This series focus on them and their story I wish we had more of them time before everything went to shit..
- Sex I need more detailed sex.. for a author to have so much detail ok the plot she puts a tad bit into the sex part and I need moreeeeeee
- ok and I have so many flipping questions... like...where is little Adam, will Nina and Mike see high way Crew again, I know it's the end of the world but will we get to slow down and have Nina and Mike a home?, I need to know more...
- I love love love shooter and will we get to see his happy ever after!?

Groups Will Collide To Take On A Savage Enemy

Claire has written another outstanding book. Odium VI is slightly different to the previous books as it is less action packed and deals with individual characters that are working out where they fit in this bigger and more sadistic world. Nina, Mikey, Shooter and O'Donnelle are all trying to hold on to a what is best for them but the fallout from this book may not allow that.

My favourite part of this book was the relationship between Nina and O'Donnell. Although both had feelings for the same individual, I loved how their dynamic grew and how they wanted to work together to reach their goal of saving this person putting their differences aside.

If I had to pick one negative, it would that for me this book was MC heavy. I understand why it was needed. With the two MC groups introduced we needed some background and history to the fallout and how they became to be.

Overall though this is a brilliant read. Each individual Nina, Mikey, Shooter & O'Donnell have their moments of conflicted thoughts, moments of clarity and moments when they realise what they want and what is needed are very different. The end of book six sets up a explosive book seven. I think it'll be savage!

Gosh the suspense of this book had me almost impatient at times, I was thinking come on you need to go save Mickey stop messing about and get on with it. Not in a bad way but because I was worried about him. Some parts of this I found scary and worrying, there is some gore and the cannibalism is a bit hard to stomach. Lots of twists and turns as this saga continues, in-fighting as different groups join up for the cause not all happily. Nothing is straight forward or as you hope or expect it to be, also be prepared it doesn't end with this book there is still more to come which means patience as we wait for it to be written and released. This is a long haul saga and you need to be prepared to invest time and money to really get maximum benefit from this, I feel its worth it. Lots of excitement, ups and downs. There is violence and some gruesome scenes, there is love of sorts and some friendships, losses? of course not everyone will survive the end of the world. I wasn't sure when I started book one if I would be able to read without nightmares or be able to take the extreme scenes, I am happy to say I am in it to the end.

I was upset that book 7 wasn't out yet... that ending!
I love it how Claire can describe a scene with not too much minute detail, but so well that you are right there bang in the middle of the almost pitch black cave or the sweaty, testosterone-filled club house. You feel the anxiousness and the tension, the fight to survive and the ever-lasting fear hanging in the air, that faint whiff of a psychopath or the putrid heart of humanity.
I blazed through this book straight from book 5. The new enemy is ferocious and everyone will have a tough battle to face.

Lines crossed, death an destruction is everywhere.

Oh my Nina, what have you gotten into now, and Mikey has been thru hell an back, but new characters are introduced, some from other series of Claire's, but they add just that much more that we needed in this series.

How would you survive the zombies, could you continue to fight to live or do the unspeakable to human kind??

Loved this one can't wait for book 7

Oy.

I’ll keep it short and simple. The author can’t keep the names and descriptions of her characters straight, she needs a good editor because the mistakes were atrocious.
The FMC Nina is annoying AF. I felt like I was reading a novel written by two different people! Nina was constantly contradicting herself, constantly changing her mind, etc. Yeah I get it, the human psyche isn’t one straight line, people can change how they feel, but this was ridiculous.

Good read

I enjoyed this book as I wanted to see how our characters were doing but didn't like it as much as the first ones. I felt this one dragged on a bit and felt some things were a bit odd. How do they still have cigarettes that aren't just totally stale? Why aren't the savages jumpy and weird? Other cannibals are in the series.
Why wasn't Butcher given meds?
I do look forward to the next one
