In this profound and intelligent book, Fiona Robertson acts as companion and guide through the dark night of the soul, one of life's most challenging experiences. The dark night - or spiritual emergency - is the underbelly of awakening, an aspect of inner transformation that is often minimized, misunderstood or denied. Fiona has captured the essence of the dark night journey with compassion and clarity. Weaving her own story together with those of others who have traversed this terrain, she has created an evocative, inspiritng work to give succour to all those who are touched by the dark night. Fiona's honesty and insight cast new light on the reality of awakening, and she makes a compelling case for mature, evolving spirituality in these troubled times.
Fiona Robertson is a facilitator and teacher of embodied inquiry. She journeys with people – many of whom are going through or have experienced a dark night of the soul – into their interior landscape, accompanying them as they discover light where there was dark, dark where there was light, and often something entirely different on the other side. An experienced and perceptive soul friend, she supports people from around the world to reconnect with and deepen into their real selves. She, in her turn, is supported by others to continue to deepen.
She is the author of The Dark Night of the Soul: A Journey from Absence to Presence and The Art of Finding Yourself: Live Bravely and Awaken to Your True Nature. She loves acting, is an occasional poet, and lives in Nottingham, UK.
An excellent exploration of the darker realities of enlightenment, and the art of turning breakdown into breakthrough. What makes Fiona’s book unique is her courage to voice the more brutal side of spiritual experience, and the disillusionment that leads to a greater clarity and perspective. In her writing, absence becomes presence and heartbreak becomes grace, as she navigates masterfully between the light and dark polarities of human experience. In a marketplace flooded with spiritual books that err towards only the brighter sides of enlightenment, Fiona has written an authentic and important work for all of us emerging into awareness and presence through the multiplicity of life’s setbacks and traumas.
Probably one of the most important books ive ever read. Its grounded and easy to connect to in a way other books ive read on the subject has not been. Ive highlighted and circled so many parts of this wonderful book. Im in one of the toughest periods of my life right now, and this book has, and will probably remain for years to come, been a lifeline. Gorgeous, honest, grounded, loving. Phenomenal.
Robertson captures this experience better than anyone I’ve read. This book is a treasure. I’ve read it many times and continue to receive solace, insight, and perspective. No happy talk or bland platitudes here. It’s the real deal, so is Robertson.
This "spoke to my condition". Spiritual without jargon. No meditation teacher told me I would go through this. My Catholic background have me John of the Cross, but without an updated vision. And I think I needed the female embodied perspective.
