Family Hall #2

Song From The Heart

Rate this book
Eine Liebe in Queensland ...

Australien im 19. Jahrhundert.

This is the second and final book in this family saga over 3 generations in rural Queensland, Australia. I did like some characters more than others and one particular fellow, in the first part of this book finally met his deserved end and karma finally bit back.

In the second half of this story with the many characters and families focused on Kitty's unresolved feelings for Dan and her obsessiveness of locating him and Dominic's own desire for her to move on from the past and embrace the future while Kitty's adult sons find love and heartbreak of their own, such is life.

It was heartbreaking to read about how tragically honest the topic is in regard to Stella/Edward's deteriorating marriage and their stillborn daughter and Stella's struggles with postnatal depression and alcoholism and Edward's struggle in not knowing how to help or knowing what to do and being uncomfortable on how to handle his own feelings.

So honest with how that is relevant in today's society, though it was painful to read about how quickly women were demonized back then and thrown in clinics and the key was thrown away, thankfully there are more awareness, education, and services available for both parents to heal from their tragedy of losing their child.

Overall, I found the first part of this book more interesting compared to the second as it felt like it was just very mundane, it was an okay and enjoyable read, just wanted to know what happened in the end and the message of: following your dreams despite your gender and pursuing your goals against the odds and finding love.

This family saga is set in Queensland, not far from Brisbane, in the later part of the 19th century and into World War I. At the centre of the story is Kittie who, through love and heartbreak, determination, hard work and compassion, successfully raised a family while running a lucrative growing business. The insights the story provides into life, business, love and family over more than two decades across two centuries are an enjoyable read. Dare we hold on to the dreams of our youth or do we need to let them fly free?

Reasonably enjoyable but annoying characters. Had to read to the end though.

This is the second and final book. Whilst I fell in love with the many characters and families in these books, it felt like I was on an endless road trip and somehow didn't really go anywhere. It was born very bland and mundane, but somewhat interesting and entertaining.
