' 2 Day Down ' is a collection of 5 beautiful short stories which follows the journey of 5 different women from different walks of life. 'Down' word is often referred to the periods i.e menstruation and the stories are based on the woman's period, which is said to be the toughest five days. The stories are divided according to the 5 period problems : Pain | Staining | Sexual Inhibition | PMS | Taboo. Each of the story was related to the common issues faced by every women because of the conservative and orthodox Indian society.

The summary of each of the story is given below:

1. Pain- Haifa, a 16 year old girl belonging to a conservative muslim house wished to learn the art of pole dancing. She learnt the five moves of pole dancing along with the life lessons.
2. Staining- A Naisha finds out that she is bisexual after the demise of her husband. The story revolves around the fact that how her mother was considering it to be a disease and on the other hand her mother-in-law was being supportive of Naisha's decision.
3. Sexual Inhibition- Meera finds out that her husband was cheating upon her by sleeping with other women and promises to leave him forever. But later when she realises that he was a sex addict, she helped him come out of his problem.
4.PMS- It is a story of Henna who is 28 years old and still a virgin. She is willing to be in any relationship and is suffering from Pre-menstrual depression.
5. Taboo- Aashima is married for 10 years now but her marriage has lost its charm. She thinks of having a baby with her husband in order to save her marriage but later realises that she is not ready for anything. Instead she starts loving her body and herself. This story brings out the topic of women masturbation, which is a bold subject.
Overall, the book explores the bold issues which are considered taboo in Indian society and the author has very beautifully explained these subjects through the short stories. I loved each and every character. The book is a short read with smooth narrative. The language is easy and understandable. Though there were a few grammatical errors but they can be ignored.

Naisha – My story of Stain
Henna – My story of PMSing
Aashima - My story of Making Love
Haifa – My story of Pain
Meera – My story of Taboo
5 stories. 1 ending. Freedom. From 2 peg ke baad to 2 day down, Dr. Nikita Lalwani is on a roll with her short story bundles. While I loved her first book which was truly a roller coaster ride and was overwhelming with surprises, 2 day down lacks that kind of thrill. The author has tried to put light on issues related to periods through interesting routes like homosexuality, pole dancing, masturbation, sexual addiction, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder, I feel there could have been more thrill on the journey. I liked few quotes in the book like “Hijab was not a choice I was given. It was a command.” “Having a child is a way to rekindle the marriage. Not to correct your man’s character.” “A career that has met its goal and a marriage that has lost desire, are the worst things to happen to anyone,” which seemed to be quite in the face of the reader.
The writing style of the author is quite bold yet elegant. Even the dirty love making scenes have been dealt with quite sophisticatedly that saves it from being a b grade love novel. Use of language has been done very well, be it the choice of words of the dialogues. What I love about the writing style is that a lot is said in very, very few words, leaving the reader into contemplation. If you enjoy short stories, this one should be on your list.

And only when you are about to hate the characters, you will fall in love with them again! Dr. Lalwani has set her forte in voicing strong beliefs through short stories, and 2 day down has successfully done that. If you are someone who enjoys quick reads, don’t let this one go away. 2 day down is a compilation of 5 short stories based on 5 different women Naisha, Henna, Aashima, Haifa, Meera, who bring light to one period problem each time through their life story. First of all, I loved the concept. There are period problems, frankly, even I weren’t quite aware of. Second of all, the characters; must say very strong and well written. The author has managed to tell five unique tales in less number of words. My favourite character is that of Aashima’s, a woman who has lost luster in her marriage and is looking for ways to rekindle it, one of which is to have a child. However, she soon realizes that her marriage lacks love and there is no point of having a child in a love-less marriage. All five stories are very gripping, and much study has been done on every aspect of it. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recommend it to everyone, regardless of your gender.

Confession: I am guy, and I loved this book!
2 day down means the day two of a woman on her period, where ‘down’ is colloquially used to refer to menstruation time. This short story compilation by Dr. Nikita Lalwani is an intelligent attempt of featuring the five period problems of women, naming pain, taboo, staining, PMSing, and sexual inhibition that comes from her desire to make love with someone. The book is a mix of all emotions, probably more than what we as men are aware of. Being a man, I realized that there is always so much to learn about women, and that too in every age group. Great piece of work, interesting story lines, smart crafting. The only thing I found a little awkward was extensive portrayal of extra marital affairs and negative portrayal of men in almost every story. Not sure why.
I find the cover very interesting. The bird inside the portrait of the woman says everything that the book is about, and also gives a magical tint to it. I like the way the author has used phrases and intertwined her quotes with the dialogues.

1. Plot - 8/10
2. Emotional Value - 7/10
3. Use of language - 8/10
4. Book Cover - 8/10
5. Impact - 8/10

2 Day Down is a collection of stories loosely related to the problems faced by women because of menstruation and the weird ways of the society regarding the same.

I really liked the stories. They were a well needed slap in the face for all those age old customs that still haunt the women of India, while at the same time, the stories had enough light moments to make it an enjoyable read.

The title irks me a bit, to be honest. Everyone who knows me knows that I'm a grammar Nazi, and the title "2 Day Down" sounds a bit off to me. I think "2 Days Down" would have been more apt, grammatically speaking?

But the stories themselves had scarcely any mistakes, and it was a light and easy enough read.

When we discuss bold women-centric literature most of it is based on domestic violence and rapes and ups and downs around a loved one that has left the protagonist strong. 2 Day Down, however, is in true meaning touched various issues. Since the book covers very sensitive issues, especially the issues which have the highest risk of misrepresentation, I for one am very much impressed with the representation and narration of Naisha’s story. So far I have been really lucky to have read only good literature in the Queer genre and Naisha’s story makes it to the cut to. Menstruation today is a heavily discussed topic and we get to see a lot of dialogue around it on youtube and TV and movies and slam poetries hence, the story of Henna was not up to the mark for me. Ashima’s story is a real eye-opener, it can make the reader get in touch with their hypocritical side and may become clean with themselves at least. I found Meera's and Haifa’s stories to be the innocent one. I love the fact that the 5 pain points identified by the author has been gracefully put forth and one can find the elements of these stories in themselves too. Making the whole of it relatable to the readers. Language is ok, could have been better. However, with this issue, one can come to a valuable conclusion that it’s high time we openly discussed these topics to make it normal and remove the taboos related to them.
Another thing that I loved about the book is it has the Indian essence properly etched into its character. We know how when we talk about the issues we are brushed off telling these are western problems, But the author has very nicely put forth the fact that issues are issues and they need to be fought and stood up against and not to be labeled against geographies. The conversations that are happening among the characters are really organic giving the stories a very realistic touch.

I wish this was a series!
“Secrets aren’t bad if the revelation is worth keeping them,” Haifa – My story of pain. Nikita Lalwani’s 2 day down is filled with such sayings. 2 day down is a short story fiction novel with 5 stories, each based on one of the five period problems. The tile is suggestive of the 2nd day of periods. Every character in the story is quite well defined and comes from a different background. My favourite one is Haifa from My story of Pain who is a sixteen year old girl trying to make her way into pole dancing against all odds of the society. I also like Meera – My story of Taboo which is about a wife who chooses to stand by his sex addict husband, much as she would have with any of his illnesses. A wonderful concept brought in a wonderful way. I wish this was a series!

‘2 Day Down’ By Dr. Nikita Lalwani is a great attempt taken by the author to show case the conditions of the women. The title is perfect for the book and the sub title is thoughtful. The cover looks a bit complicated but is designed beautifully. The blurb of the book will make many things clear in your mind. The best part what I felt is that the author chose to write on those topics on which the world hesitate to talk about. All the five stories convey a powerful message to the society. The five more serious issues are talked about in the form of stories. I cannot call any one as my favourite as each story has its own value. The writing style of the author is amazing and the narrative technique is brilliant. The language of the book is lucid. Overall, it is a great read.

It is a collection of short stories with women as protagonists. It's amazing to read stories with their perspectives and it enables us to understand them better. Being a woman, it's easy to say, other women, we understand you. But do we really understand them? Some stories of this book made me think about it. Stories like Stain, Pain, PMSing are remarkable. Relatable and inspiring one.

There is one story of two women who fall in love with each other and how they struggle to accept that and after that acceptance by the family was altogether the hardest struggle.
We have been called with bad and unacceptable names because of our behaviour. I must thank Author to bring these topics.

Dr. Nikita Lalwani manages to recreate a different environment for her plot which not only projects to a different perspective of women empowerment, but also societal taboos which women in India faces. This book amalgamates 5 stories which describes different phases of struggles which a women faces. My story of Stain speaks on the fact that inside every woman, is a crazy girl. And we all know what I'm talking about. That part of you that is entangled with insecurities, fears, and absolute insanity! The art of femininity lies in the molding, pounding, and defeating of that crazy girl on a daily basis! Look at any woman, and you're looking at a woman fighting a daily battle, wielding her weapons in war, every day! I have said it before and I'll say it again: it is never easy being a woman! And if we could only pound that crazy, insecure girl out of ourselves, it would make such the difference!
My story of PMSing describes Young girls today are very mistaken to be thinking that their sense of self-worth and their acknowledgment of their beauty depends on whether a man will give that to them or not. Such naïveté! And so what will happen when the man changes his mind about her? Tells her she's not beautiful enough? That she's not good enough? Cheats on her? Leaves her? Then what happens? She will lose all her self-worth, she will think she is not good enough, she is not beautiful enough, because all of those feelings depended on the man in the first place! And along with the loss of the man, it will all be lost as well! Mothers, teach your daughters better. It pains me to see such naive innocence right under my nose! Such naïveté does no good for any girl. It is better for a girl to be worldly-wise and have street-smarts! That's what a girl needs to have in life! Not wide-eyed delusional innocence! The sense of self-worth and acknowledgment of being beautiful must not come from a man, it must come from inside the woman herself, men will come and men will go and their coming and going must not take an effect on the woman's sense of worth and beauty.
The next two stories deals with the way how Indian society looks upon the women. Our culture is obsessed with perfection, especially when it comes to the way women look. The parameters of acceptability as far as physical appearance go are so limiting that only a handful of women actually fall into this category. And the rest of us are left to either squeeze ourselves into moulds that don't fit, hating ourselves all the while, or we just give up entirely.
The last story concludes the plot. Once we start to work with Feminine power we begin to see that it is not our minds that are in control of this power – it ebbs and flows with the movements of the planets, the procession of the seasons, the moons and tides, our own internal cycles of menstruality, anniversaries, the events around us. All these and more impact our experience and expressions of power. We learn to become aware of these various patterns and their impact on us and work more consciously with rather than against or in spite of them. We learn that they are all part of the same process. We open towards the energy, rather than shut down to it. We learn to trust the flow.

2 Day Down,

By Dr. Nikita Lalwani.

2 Day Down is a collection of five stories with one ending, Freedom from the demons of the beliefs that have imprisoned you.  Each story deals with the dilemma that every woman faces.

The first story ‘My story of Stain’ is of Naisha, a young widow, who while meeting prospective grooms for a second marriage, discovers about her sexual orientation.  The only person who tries to understand and supports her is her mother-in-law Hope.  Naisha and her mother-in-law share a strong and a beautiful relationship. “I turned, and looked back, and I realised that shame lied outside of me.” Of all the stories this one is my favourite as it deals with not only overcoming the social stigma attached to one’s sexual preferences that differ from the societal norms but also of acceptance.

The second  ‘My story of PMSing’ is of Heena, who discovers that she not only suffers from PMS but a condition termed as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder which is much severe than PMS. Heena is unable to understand her emotions when it comes to the men she is dating till her doctor diagnoses her with suffering  from Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder, which even turns her suicidal.

The third  ‘My story of Making Love’ is of Aashima, an entrepreneur and an independent woman when it comes to her choices at work but at home she faces marital rape from a husband, Rajat, who is indifferent to her otherwise and wants her only when he is insatiated. Rajat is having an affair but is still undecided about Aashima and forcing himself on her is his only way of keeping the marriage going.

The fourth  ‘My story of Belief’ is of Meera, who discovers an ugly truth about her husband Samar, yet decides to stand by him when she had all the reasons to walk out of the marriage. She places her trust in Samar knowing full well that the end result in all likelihood would be betrayal. The struggles that Meera faces and her resilience in the face of adversities is sure to make the readers cry. Meera and Naisha come off as the strongest characters of all the five.

The fifth ‘My story of Pain’ is of Haifa, a sixteen year old who breaks free from the shackles of centuries old traditions and walks the difficult path to realizing her dreams. She reminds me of Insiya from Secret Superstar. Haifa at sixteen displays such courage that even women at sixty can’t.

2 Day Down is a must read for every growing girl and every woman as if change has to happen it has to begin with us. I would give 2 Day Down 3.5 stars.

I really want to thank Dr.Nikita Lalwani for writing this book and addressing issues related to women’s physical and emotional health that are often swept under the carpet and never discussed openly. 2 Day Down is an eye opener and tries its best to erase the social stigma related to periods and all that which come as perks along with it. The author has done her bit now it’s up to us as a society how we act.

Blurb : 2-day-down is a compilation of stories of 5 women from different walks of life. Each story digs into one of the five period related problems: Pain/Staining/Sexual Inhibition/PMS/Taboo, through each one's journey. The title signifies the second day of a woman's period, which is said to be the toughest of the five days. The stories are a reflection of the less acknowledged society around us. Through menstrual problems as a window, the book is an attempt to bring light to the intriguing yet briefly understood aspects of womanhood in different age groups.

Plot : The title is 2 day down which stands for the two more intense days of the period. The first story is about Stain. The protagonist here is Naisha who is a widow. The story is about how she discovers her sexuality. The second story is about PMSing. The protagonist here is Henna, 28 who is a virgin. It's narrated that she goes on dates and during a few days she feels just sad and depressed. The third story is about Taboo. The protagonist here is Aashima. She is 38 and married but there's nothing left in their marriage so they she thinks of having a kid. Here, the author has explored the topic of making love to oneself. The fourth story is about Meera and Samar. Meera finds out about Samar being a sex addict and then they opt for counselling. This story is about sexual inhibition. The fifth story is about Haifa, a girl from a Muslim family who wants to break free. She ends up learning pole dancing.

Review : The author chose a bold topic to write on sp brownie points for that. The book is divided into 5 parts according to the five period problems. The short stories are interesting to read and the flow is smooth. The narration is simple. The cover of the book is very beautiful. The title is apt. The genre is very different from the ones I'm used to reading. I felt that there was a lesser development of the protagonists. Also, the stories ended abruptly. The main issue that the author is taking about I'm here or trying to raise should have been wrote about in detail. It's a light and easy read.

Quote I liked :
•Too much pain is a thought.
Reality is lesser tolerance.

Thanks to the author for sending me a review copy in exchange of an honest review.

2-day-down is a compilation of stories of 5 women from different walks of life. Each story digs into one of the five period related problems: Pain | Staining | Sexual Inhibition | PMS | Taboo, through each one's journey. Each chapter is titled by the name of its protagonist and the tagline suggests the issue of period it is related to.
Haifa - My Story of Pain
It is a story of a girl who grew up with Islamic values and used to do hijab, until she realizes her passion for pole dancing. The story interestingly draws a parallel between the five pole dance moves and life lessons as Haifa is performing on the stage.

Henna – My story of PMSing
This is one of my favourite stories. It is quirky, it is chic, and quite subtly talks about the issue of premenstrual depression, which no one has ever spoken of. The story takes you through the life of Henna who is a 27-year-old single, virgin girl, who is willing to have a relationship before she turns 28.

Meera – My story of Taboo
Meera is happily married with a daughter to Samar. Her world shatters down when she finds out that her husband is sleeping outside his marriage for money. Her fury comes to halt when she learns that all of this is a consequence of his addiction for sex.

Naisha – My story of Stain
Another beautiful story in my opinion. Naisha was once married to Elton, and few years after his death she finds out that she is a bisexual. The most interesting twist to the story is that Naisha’s mother is rigourously looking for guys to remarry her daughter, while her mother-in-law is trying to set her up with other women for the same reason. Must read!

Aashima – My story of Making Love
One of the very few stories that have spoken of masturbation in women. Aashima is in her late thirties and has arrived in a phase where her career and her marriage have lost its charm. She is willing to have a child to rekindle her marriage, but understands that she does not enjoys the way her husband touches her, and senses no love in it.

Overall, I like the bold subjects chosen by the author to trigger a conversation on period problems. Her writing style is different. Although, different also leaves a lot of room for improvement. A lot of places have sudden jumps in the story, which at times gets confusing.

GENRE: Short stories, Realism, Fiction

RATING: 4/5

Amazon sale is a boon for any book lover. For me it's godsend as I can grab all my choices at a reduced price though I am out of space.' 2 Day Down ' is a collection of 5 short stories which trails the journey of 5 women from different walks of life. Till a few years age menstruation, periods, menses were terms that would be spoken in hushed tones let alone be heard by a male member of society. These words made men uncomfortable and women equally uncomfortable even though its just a biological process which is essential if human species need to grow. But surprisingly, older generations scorned the word and made it into a taboo, restricting girls and women within your own homes as if they have committed a crime. Even today sanitary napkins are covered in newspaper and then handed in a despicable black polythene bag as if I am carrying something would polluted others even b a look. At the same time a condom is easier to purchase over the counter. Some irony huh!!

'Down' is a word often used to refer to the terms periods i.e menstruation. The stories in the book are based on the woman's period, which for most women are the most painful and toughest five days they face every month. Not many books cover this topic or even mention about this. Thus, Ms. Nikita Lalwani's effort must be applauded to have written stories revolving around a so called societal taboo. The stories covering the lives of women of varying ages speaks of the different stages of struggles every woman in her life. Each story is window into lives of women at various ages , and all on their second day of period, which is by far the most painful.

The stories are divided according to the 5 period problems :1.Pain; 2. Staining ; 3. Sexual Inhibition; 4. PMS; 5.Taboo. Each story brings forth issues faced by every women because of the conservative and orthodox mindset of the Indian society.

The summary of each of the story is given below:

1.Staining - ‘My story of Stain’ - The first short story is titled 'Staining'. And just as in real life women are scared of staining their clothes as a telltale of their being o periods. The story speaks of Naisha, a young widow, who while interacting with the prospective grooms for a second marriage, discovers about her sexual orientation(she bisexual or lesbian I am not sure). The story moves on to show how her mother considers her lack of interest to be a disease and on the other hand her mother-in-law is supportive of Naisha's decision. Naisha and her mother-in-law share a strong and a beautiful relationship. “I turned, and looked back, and I realised that shame lied outside of me.”

2. PMS- ‘My story of PMSing’ -This story is about Henna who is talented writer by profession works as a ghost writer for someone else, which can be seen as the reflection of society where women are kept in purdah or in the backdrops. Henna is 28 years old and has been on many dates but never found the right guy for her. She feels insecure about love and her own emotions when it comes to relationships. For eg: when someone touched her, she became numb and didn't feel anything. So, she consults a gynecologist about this. After hearing everything from her, the doctor concludes that Henna is suffering from Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder. It is a disease which women are not aware of because not many visit gynecologists for their problems. It is mostly shrugged as mood disorder associated with periods.

3. Taboo- ‘My story of Making Love’ -The third story is of Aashima, an entrepreneur and an independent woman when it comes to her choices at work. But at home her story is not different from other women. Married for 10 years now she realises that her marriage has lost its charm. Her husband,Rajat is having an affair but is still undecided about Aashima and her place in his life. So Aashima thinks of having a baby with her husband in order to save her marriage. But she faces marital rape at the hands of Rajat, couldn't care less about her and wants her only when he wants his sexual urges satiated. He forces himself on her as his only way of keeping the marriage going. But Aashima realises that she is not ready for anything now to save the loveless marriage. She refuses to be a tool in the hands of her husband to be toyed with as ad when he desires. Instead she starts loving her body and herself. This story brings out the topic of women masturbation, which is a bold subject.

4. Sexual Inhibition- 'My story of Belief’ -The fouth story is of Meera who finds out that her husband was cheating upon her by sleeping with other women and promises to leave him forever. But later when she realises that he was a sex addict, she helped him come out of his problem. She stands with him through all the trials and helps him fight the addiction. Even though she has ample reasons to quit she places her trust in Samar knowing full well that in all likelihood her trust would be broken and betrayed.

5. Pain- ‘My story of Pain’- The last story speaks of Haifa, a 16 year old girl belonging to a conservative Muslim house wished to learn the art of pole dancing. She learnt the five moves of pole dancing along with the life lessons. She takes baby steps to breaks free from the manacles of centuries old traditions and walks the thorny path towards realizing her dreams.

Overall, the effort behind the book is commendable as the author explores some bold issues which are considered taboo in Indian society. The author covered all religions in the book, thereby highlighting the fact that religion does not make a difference in the lives or fate of women in India.

But at times I felt that stories were winded up too soon without giving the characters a chance to grow or develop. And there are many questions left unanswered for the readers to deduce. What happens to Naisha? Is she accepted by her family, especially her mother and the society? What is the Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder? What happened to Henna? Does she recover from it?
Does being a wife give a husband right to touch his wife without her consent? Did Aashima conceive a baby despite her self awareness, or does she move away from the marriage? What happened between Meera and Samar? Did things work out with them? Or did he betray her trust and continue with his addiction? What happened when people came to know about Haifa's pole dance? Did her family, mainly her father ostracize her or accept her? Did her religious community bend their laws for the girl?

A must read for girls and women of all ages. The stories will stick to you depending on your age and the situations you have faced in your lives. The topics have been delicately dealt and even though they bring out the stark reality of the lives of women it is easy to read, yet I must admit you will feel depressed by the end.

Some quotes I liked:

“Hijab was not a choice I was given. It was a command.”

“Having a child is a way to rekindle the marriage. Not to correct your man’s character.”

“A career that has met its goal and a marriage that has lost desire, are the worst things to happen to anyone,”

“Secrets aren’t bad if the revelation is worth keeping them,” .

" Too much pain' is a thought. Reality is lesser tolerance."

REVIEW

Title- The title is fine.

Cover- Up-fronted cover design is interestingly thought and created which is beautiful. Since the book is about women and so the cover portrays a very strong personality which is commendable.

Blurb- The blurb is short and informative and gives a brief idea about the book and what is it about. But, I feel book is sexualized a lot in order to show the in-n-outs of women and her life.

Plot- Five story about five different women and their lives which is totally different from each other and yet they are same. The explanation about womanhood is placed into good words. Life of women is identified non-identically and here, the 5 characters have different life problems to deal and still they manage to live to the heights with all those troubles.

Narration- A playful experiment of words and good narration.

Language- The author has opted a simple way of writing the entire book which is easy to understand and read. The effortless language made it a good pace to read the book and finish it quickly. It escalated well painlessly.

Pace- The pace was untroubled.

The objective of this book could be easily understood and was commendable. The presentation of stories of different women is amazing. In the book, some parts have been unnecessarily stretched which is time taking. Otherwise, everything has done greatly.

Recommended to read!

A collection of 5 short stories who should be talking about their life and periods but the book ends up telling us about all the other things except for the main issue "periods". They wander about a lot without focusing much on the exact issues and this leaves me unsatisfied.

The 1st story is about a woman who has just lost her husband with whom is had fell in love and got married. After his death she sees some men but she's never interested in any. Soon she discovers that she's homosexual. She falls in love with a women who happens to be an aunt of her student. The main topic of this story becomes of her sexuality and not about periods.

The second story of a lady who wants to settle down in her life with a man who can understand and love her but she's unable to find her partner. And thus this become the issue of the story.

The third storyline is of a middle aged women, married, has a business of her own but she has problems. And the problem is that her marriage has reached a state where they both are nothing but just roommates and again wanders about them trying for a baby to bring back their marriage on track. Loosing me on the issue.

Fourth one. And omg this story had the most disturbing narration and plot. As a story it was incredibly beautiful! If I just ignore the thought that it was for the theme of periods and women then the story was the most griping tale. The husband of the protagonist was a sex addict who got into a sex business because of his insecurities.

The fifth story was my favourite. About a girl, young, petite and Muslim. Who is fascinated by pole dance. This is only story which shows period as an issue. The girl deals with period pain. She learns pole dancing under the nose of her parents. Her talent takes her to the finals of a TV reality show. And just before her performance she was in immense pain still she completed her performance with grace and freedom.

The book had great stories ignoring the main issue of the book which totally diverts. I give it a 3 star only for the stories.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

"All that stands between you and what you want is your fear of failure."

Crisp, strong and inspiring, "2 Day Down" by Dr. Nikita Lalwani is a collection of five wonderful stories of five strong women from different walks of life, having one common ending--Freedom.

Each of the stories has a woman who struggles to come out of the fetters the society chained her to and come out victorious. Through the incredibly woven stories of Stain, PMSing, Making Love, Belief and Pain, author Nikita Lalwani tried to spark a change into the society.

The reason why period is still a taboo and period myths are doing perfectly fine in the society is our inability to ask the question "Why?". But the moment we start questioning "Why?" to each and every myth prevalent in the society, is the moment our struggle to spark a change begins.

Dr. Nikita Lalwani included girls from every religion-- Hindu, Muslim, Christian-- in her stories, depicting how all of them suffer in a similar manner at the hands of the cruel society.

At the end of each story, there's a small set of information and proven facts that people ought to know before creating worthless taboos.

Character sketch in all the stories are brilliant. The main woman characters-- Naisha, Henna, Aashima, Meera, Haifa-- are shown to be strong enough to conquer their greatest difficulties in life.

The title signifies the second day of a woman's period, which is considered the toughest of the five days.

The cover is no doubt attractive, starring the face of an woman painted in maroon and a ready-to-fly white bird of peace within her.

With its innovative plots, inspiring tales and superb style of writing, the unputdownable book "2 Day Down" by Dr. Nikita Lalwani is definitely worth a read by one and all.

"'Too much pain' is a thought.
Reality is lesser tolerance."

After 2 peg ke baad, comes 2 day down. Looks like Dr. Nikita Lalwani has set her foot well in short story genre. However, unlike the former, this one walks us through a much serious and less acknowledged issue of periods, looping each problem with a bigger social problem around us in each story. The book is a collection of five stories, brought to life with the five titled characters with: -
Naisha – My story of Stain
Story of a bisexual girl, fighting for her love with both the society and her coma.
Henna – My story of PMSing
Story of a young girl dealing stress over work and love life, not realizing it to be a consequence of a syndrome.
Aashima - My story of Making Love
Story of a woman who is trying to bring life to her dead marriage through everything in the book, and choosing masturbation over marital rape.
Haifa – My story of Pain
Story of a teenaged girl, going with her gut of becoming a pole dancer, while maintaining the religious beliefs of her parents.
Meera – My story of Taboo
Story of a happily married woman, who finds out that her husband is a sex addict and yet chooses to be at his side, against the idea of a “self-respecting” woman, and goes beyond her limits to stand for her love.
Honestly, I found the stories very gripping and out of the box. Every small emotion is woven carefully with effective use of words. The author has managed to talk less and say more on every page. There were places I felt the scene jumped too quickly to the next one, which could have been done better. However, the book made me wonder if women have become bolder or is it very less of what we know of them.
I would give it 3.5 out of 5 for the creative treatment.

The most catching part of the book is it's tagline " 5 Stories, 1 Ending, Freedom ". 2 day down by Dr. Nikita Lalwani is complication of 5 Stories of 5 women at different age stage of their lives facing the different issues related to menstrual problems. In this high-tech period still women are afraid to discuss about their menstrual problems and here with these beautiful stories author has complied all these problems and highlighted the impact of these issues on women and their self respect.
Pain, staining, sexual abuse, PMS and Taboo these five problems being covered in one book with different stories of five women and how they deal to overcome. When woman inside her ask the questions to her innerself she gets the answer of all the troubles she is going through. She is strong enough to deal with her own fear and fear forced by society.
" I turned, and looked back, and I realized that shame lied outside of me"
"What's wrong with me? The answer was that asked myself too many questions"
"Sex was her way to confirm that she was still desirable to him"
" I made a choice, people spoke, and I was born"
" Too much pain is a thought. Reality is lesser tolerance"
These 5 amazingly deep beautiful thoughts by Naisha, Henna, Aashima, Meera and Haifa are eye opener for the women who are still afraid or ashamed of discussing their menstrual problems.
All the stories are designed perfectly to explain each of the issues. Language is easy and it shows author's deep knowledge and research about the subject. Cover and title could have been better. Definitely this book had the capacity to bring the light to such delicate issues.

2 Day Down is a really creative name for a book that majorly deals with women and their problems. It is a book that comprises of 5 stories of 5 totally different women who are living a life different from their life of dreams and where their journey takes them.
The book starts off okayish and then the pace and the story drops on reading further, the stories in the start especially seemed to be rushed and left incomplete. The book talks about sensitive issues and topics like periods, PMS, Sexual Inhibitions, etc that are taboo in our society and deserve a proper closure but are not given so. Some of the lines are written just for the sake of writing something and do not provide any meaning to the story. The scenes in the story are left underdeveloped and when you expect them to contribute in the storyline, they actually don't.
The first 2 stories contain a bit of repetitiveness to it, that comprises of the family being eager to get their daughter to marry a "suitable boy" and why the girl is not able to find a boy for herself? First 2 stories to me are like the same story with the different set-up so that they yield a different result.
You can feel the inconsistency in writing as well. There were moments when I noticed that the author talks about the women who is representing the story in 1st person, that suddenly changes to 3rd person at times.
The last two stories, on the other hand, were interesting to read as they dealt with a different base storyline that was innovative. But the problem of incompleteness and inconsistency prevails throughout the book.
To me, I was not satisfied with my read.

2 Day Down is a compilation of five stories, each dedicated to a problem faced by women during their periods. Such a concept is rarely seen in India and is even less heard of amongst new authors. The premise of each story is beautiful and the idea holding them all together is unique in its own way.

Each story speaks of a different age group, all during the beginning of the menstrual cycle. The plot of each story is strong and some really unusual instances are seen in the book and they have been justice. However, all the stories change pace with no warning and the reader will be grappling at times to understand how things changed within a few lines. There are some loose ends in each story leaving the reader with questions in their mind.

Another minor issue is that the titles of the stories are not aptly named and can be a bit misleading. Characters have been explained adequately and nothing seems unrealistic. Every woman will be able to relate to atleast one story from this collection. The situations presented here are very real and very relevant.

The concept is bold and the writing reflects maturity even though Dr Lalwani is only two books old. There were a few printing errors but they can be overlooked in the light of the overall effect.

I definitely recommend this book to all readers looking for something different than our normal ‘feminism’ textbooks and those wanting a different flavor for their brain than romance and mythology which are the only two genres that seem to be faring well in our country. 2 Day Down is nicely penned and carefully handled. A short read that would fit well for short travels.

I got the book from author in exchange of an honest review.

The title '2 Day Down' is unique in itself. Though it doesn't tell anything about the stories inside it, yet it's beautiful. The elegant book cover tells everything about the stories. There is a woman colored in shades of red, the color of blood and an image of a flying bird implies her freedom.

There are 5 stories in this book, all of them related to women and their common problems. I appreciate the author for choosing such delicate and sensitive topics to write on. Author told every problem with help of a good story. I liked every story, specially last two. There are so many things to be learnt from every story. Author's deep research on the topics is docilely visible. Style of writing is unique. Each story is written in first person's point of view and the titles are also in first person. I liked that, the leading character's name of every story is written on top of every title. And there is some fact or information after every story ends. The protagonists of every story is bold. I think author could choose another names for some Christian characters, some familiar names which can suit on Indian background. First, forth and fifth stories are easy to understand, but second and third stories are quite complicated. I mean I could not understand what or what not the author wanted to convey. The fifth story has muslim protagonist and I'm unable to digest how she came to know something from the Vedas.

Language and narration style is good enough.

I recommend every girl and every woman must read this book.

2-day-down is a compilation of stories of 5 women from different walks of life. Each story digs into one of the five period related problems: Pain | Staining | Sexual Inhibition | PMS | Taboo, through each one's journey. The title signifies the second day of a woman's period, which is said to be the toughest of the five days. The stories are a reflection of the less acknowledged society around us. Through menstrual problems as a window, the book is an attempt to bring light to the intriguing yet briefly understood aspects of womanhood in different age groups.

The book tells stories of 5 women – Haifa, Naisha, Meera, Aashima, Henna, each one from different age groups. First of all I really liked the concept of featuring the topic of periods with such delicacy in such interesting way. Kudos for that! The writing style is very mystical, and leaves you thinking at the end of every page.
One of my favourite stories is Naisha, which is an interesting pick on a homosexual life. I also loved Meera for the very subject of sexual addiction that the story brings out. Who could have imagined that stories like these exist amongst us!
However, the stories yet seem to have so much more scope in terms of events and shock value and could have been made better.
My Rating to every story: -
Naisha – 4.5/5
Henna – 3.5/5
Aashima – 2.5/5
Meera – 3.5/5
Haifa – 3/5
Overall it’s a good read and a right blend of intensity and colours.

With a well-planned story structure, 2 Day Down was a good read and something that I found was truly unique. The entire collection, as divided into 5 different stories on 5 different women proved to be a really good technique as it really separated out the different stories, while also laying them side by side, parallel to each other to compare and contrast them.
The stories individually however could have seen more development in terms of plot and character. I feel that the stories were not very well-paced or very lucid and coherent. It was not very easy to understand at some points.
In terms of the title, the subtitle to be specific, I did not see much of the ‘freedom’ aspect as written. Nonetheless, the author has really shed significant light on women health issues, especially pertaining to periods that are not very well known. In that effect, it proved quite enlightening. In this way, I think this book is perfect when it comes to gaining consciousness and awareness about women especially in regards to their monthly ‘womanly problems’. The society has reached a point where it is ready enough to acknowledge and pay attention to these issues and not just disregard them as something very frugal. The ways in which these stories are presented are also significant as they have been heavily influenced by a very realistic tone.
Overall a very much enjoyable and at times, a bit depressing (because of its realistic portrayal of these women)

While the world is on roll with open conversations on periods, Dr. Nikita Lalwani has managed to take it on another level. Even more interestingly, she has brought up topics like PMSing, pre-menstrual depression syndrome, sexual desire during menstruation, etc, which aren’t even considered so much of a problem from the other side of the grass. Henna – My story of PMSing is one of my personal favourites of the lot of 5 stories. The story is about a girl, Henna, in her late twenties who is ashamed of still being a virgin and is actively looking for a boyfriend before her 28th birthday. The smooth flow of Henna’s life, her career, tinder dates, matrimony prospects, etc. doesn’t let us realize that all this while why she has been constantly “PMSing”. It’s only when she, much along with the readers, learns about the real problem she was constantly dealing with.
Every story has its own soul and are worth reading. I found the cover very intriguing and mysterious. It truly depicts the essence of the Pain | Taboo | Stain | Sexual Inhibition | PMS which are the 5 period problems featured in the book. The title is very colloquial and suits the idea very well. 2 day down talks about freedom from not just period problems but various norms within and outside of us in the urban society that we are a part of.
The vocabulary and use of language is simple yet efficient.

"5 stories, 1 ending, freedom" the tagline sums up the book appropriately.

2 day down, is a collection of 5 stories. Each story has one of the five period related problems : Pain, Staining, Sexual Inhibition, PMS, Taboo. Each story ending with common outcome "freedom". The stories are :
1) My story with stain : The story is based on the idea of homesexual relationships (gays, lesbians), people's view on this and the staining problem of woman.

2) My story of PMSing : The story of a woman who is in late twenties, shame of being a virgin yet. She tries to think what is the problem with her moods, behaviours and who always blame herself for this. Later on she finds with a gynaecologist, she has premenstrual dysphoric disorder 2hich is much severe than premenstrual syndrome (PMS). 3) My story of making love : The story is based on martial rape and hidden desires of a woman, who is deprived of love making.

4) My story of belief : The story proves the real meaning of love and the view of menstruation as dirty in mind of people.

5) My story of pain : The story is based in the most common problem of periods,i.e.,pain and the desire of a woman for achieving her dreams.

Good points :
* The author has very coherently weaven the period problems with a different problem faces by a woman in this society.

Bad points :
* Plot and characterisation should be more.

𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰: '𝟐 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧' 𝐛𝐲 𝐃𝐫. 𝐍𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐭𝐚 𝐋𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐢

I'm glad to be on the receiving end of this book written by Nikita Lalwani. Published by Redgrab Books & Anybook, this book consists of 5 stories (divided into 5 chapters each) in 192 pages, all but depicting one picture– freedom for women.

The stories are versatile, they touch diverse places.

Menstruation, the taboo of society, by society but not for society. Though we have been trying to have a better understanding of what's normal should be accepted but the scriptures named it the time of the evil, the ease of influence of the bad. Now, this book has some facts (at the end of each story) that would highlight the suffering.

From the start, I was hooked up on every single chapter that came across. The writing style was so alluring and not one time did it slip past the eye. Not one thing could be called uninteresting. It was that gripping and easy to read. However, it could do with editing in some paragraphs where the first person and third person were confused with. But you would hardly notice.

On the other hand, the title story could easily pass for the best of five. It had a certain end to it and felt complete while I think one of them ended without conviction. What I loved the most, above all, was the strong female characters who knew what they were to through.

From coming out to going out with pride. From calling it off to calling out the best for them and then beyond the shackles, believing in self but letting go wherever needed. The bigger picture was wherever we felt less, that was only in the mind. The comparing and distinction was just because we bleed.

I really recommend it, mostly to the fellow young women out there. The patriarchy has made this weird to accept and come to terms with the fact that it's ok. I know there are still many places where they are having it worse. That stain is not unnatural, it's not the Devil's blood, it's the essence of life. While we are fortunate enough to have it better than most, we should spread the word.

It was a 5/5 🌟 for me. Also, it's available on Amazon.
