It's 1948, and Mabel is happily juggling the demands of being a wife, a mother and the owner of the town's most popular bakery. Life is full and good. There is a wedding in the offing and plans for a special homecoming, but things quickly begin to unravel. A violent attack, a tragic accident and a shocking secret that forces Mabel to confront a troubling moral dilemma, combine to create a page-turning narrative that is, at times, playful and fun; at others, shocking and sad. As she did in her debut novel, The Bread Maker, and in its sequel, Or so it Seemed, MacLeod's latest work grips readers with its surprising twists, colourful characters, powerful imagery and rich dialogue. Readers will feel as if they stepped into a bygone era, eavesdropping on the lives of ordinary people caught up in extraordinary circumstances. A beautiful story about love, loss, deception and depravity, Plenty to Hide will keep you guessing what's next for Mabel and the unforgettable cast of characters who come to life on the pages of this rich and moving tale.
Another gem from Moira Leigh MacLeod. The novel was a continuation of the life of Mabel, her family and friends in Glace Bay. There are some new characters and tears for old ones. I am looking forward for reading the fourth book in this series.
I loved the book…I have read all six of Moira Leigh McLeod’s books. I loved them all. What great series of books. I would love to see her write more books. Great books. Started the first one on Sept 24 2024 and finished the sixth One on Nov 10 2024.
Humorous and tragic, but a bit challenging to keep track of the characters. Perhaps it would have been easier to follow if I read the author's earlier books featuring the same characters first.
I enjoyed this book. Our book club combined with another book club to do this book, and we met with the author! She was delightful, and funny, and we loved our evening with her! This is the third book in the following of Mabel, a bread maker in Cape Breton. I have not read the first two books, but am about to. The stories follow a group of people from Glace bay NS, and the lives they live in this small town. The trials and tribulations that they are interwoven in, keep you guessing as to what will happen next. Well written.
I normally enjoy Moira Leigh MacLeod's novels; however, this one was poorly edited and I struggled to get past the missing words, the typos, and the grammar mistakes. It was such a shame because I really do love her books.
Absolutely love all 3 books of Moira Leigh Macleod’s. This was the 3rd in the continuing story of Mabel set in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Can’t wait for the fourth.....there has o be a fourth!
