When sixty-eight-year-old Sarah Miller moves into the Cunningham Village retirement community, she is mourning the loss of her husband, her young grandson, and the place that has been home for forty-two years. But Sarah is a survivor. As she reaches out into the retirement community that is to become home, she finds friends, activities, new hobbies, and a possible love interest. In the second installment of this fun, friendly series of cozy mysteries, Sarah has settled in to Cunningham Village. But then a young girl goes missing, and Sarah and her friend Sophie promise to find her.
Running Stitches was okay, but not really my cup of tea. I needed a break from "heavier" reading and chose a "cozy" mystery. This one didn't have much in the way of a mystery to solve with clues leading to the solution, like a good puzzle. It provided the break I needed, but didn't leave me wanting to read more books along this line. If you're a cozy mystery fan, you may enjoy it more than I did.
The second book in the cozy quilting series finds Sarah Miller settled in the Cunningham retirement village and when a young girls disappears, once again Sarah and her friend Sophie get involved.
Of course, everything is not as it seems and Running Stitches is a family drama read. The story continues on from Tie Died and once again includes a quilting theme.
Sarah is finding love again and I must admit I do love the romance she is finding. Charles is completely right for her. Her friends are delightful and the mystery unfolds beautifully.
These novels are fast becoming a favourite of mine, They are easy reads and the humour shines through despite the sadness of the missing girl.
Sophie is hilarious, and I love how the resident of the village have so much fun in their older years.... all is not lost!!
Once again the quilt pattern of the back of the book comes with full instructions. The covers of these books are of the finished quilts.
Sarah finds out her friend Arthur has escaped from prison, not long before he is going to be released. She has contact with him and finds out that he left because he found out his daughter had disappeared after finding out her stepfather wasn’t her real father. He had been cruel to her all her life. Sarah gets Arthur to turn himself in by promising to find his daughter. Her interest in retired cop, Charles, is getting more involved. It was nice to read this soon after the first one in the series so the characters were fresh in your mind.
Ok I love how these books are written.......they solve a mystery in one book and on the last few pages they introduce a new one......I LOVE that idea......again, this writer has the characters changing and growing and not staying stagnant so I love that too.
And let's not forget that these books are related around quilts so what else would I love. I made a copy of the pattern from this particular book and now I can't wait to start this one....NOT that I need another pattern but I have always wanted to make one of these. And it's a great scrap quilt too.....
This is the second book in this series. I work full time and do not have enough time for all the stitching and quilting that I like to do - reading books that focus on what you enjoy doing really helps you feel connected to what you love while you have to be in the office.
This was a continuation of the story started in book one, with some twists and turns - while it might seem light - I truly enjoy the characters, their interactions and the story itself.
A little disappointing. I thought it would be a whole new story involving the characters. But it’s like part two of the first book. It also upsets me when the entire story wraps up in two pages. Not fun, not enough clues to get you to the end. Oh well simple read.
I really enjoyed this book because I love guilts and mysteries. It held my interest for the whole weekend. This is the second time I've read one of Carol Jones books and plan on reading more of them.
Many are the secrets throughout this book. From the hidden object to the girl hiding from the law and her brutal stepfather. The story solves the puzzles but leads us on to the next adventure.
The romance is light, the mystery is more a suspense, and the writing is just so so. But the characters are very interesting as is the plot. And the teaser at the end keeps me wanting to read the next book. A light and fast read as Sarah and her friends try to find a runaway.
I marked this and the first book in the series as 5 stars not because they rise to the level of classic literature - that’s not their purpose - but because I enjoyed them. They were quick, easy reads with characters to whom I could relate.
I read the first book in the series and figured I’d read this one, too. It was pretty predictable.. if I run across the next one, I’ll probably read it.
Great read for quilters--I'm thinking of buying a copy to gift to a friend who is a quilter. Good little mystery too. I'll read the whole series eventually.
Just the thing for an escape from real life. Everything will be fine in the end - you just know it after reading about 10 pages. Quick read, enjoyable characters. Kind of a utopian system.
Well, I thought the editing had improved until the ending when a couple of wrongs words were used. I like the continuation of characters and can see where future stories will take us.
And it is about quilting, too. This book has many things about it that I like to read in a book: quilting, sewing, a senior citizen finding love, families, and a mystery. I will continue to read the books in this series.
This is the second book in this series and now that I have learned about all of the characters I am really enjoying their story. I feel as if I have read this one before and probably have but did not realize it was part of the series. This is just my cup of tea kind of reading. I only wish it came with audio somI could listen to it read to me at times.
If you enjoyed the first in this series, then sit back and prepare for another adventure with Sarah, Sophie, and the rest of their crew. I also enjoyed all the talk about the history of the quilt Sarah was making.
