What..? This felt like a desperate attempt to tie up loose ends and explain things, but fails to do either. Contains no game system details. Contains very little action at all. Mostly people messing with other people's sanity and morals. Characters turn more sinister and we don't really have a single good hearted person left. I don't need them to be good, I enjoyed watching Dexter back in the day and Darth Vader was my favorite as a kid. In this volume everyone's competing to be the most evil, but not a single one manages to be a likeable villain.

Enjoyable enough series, lighthearted in tone and conception but dealing with potentially big issues (what does a good man do when he discovers he is a natural serial killer?). This book feels like the end of the line, but there are some big questions left hanging -- most notably, what happened to Eve?

Interesting story, though dark at times
I found this series to be an interesting mix of gaming, mystery, humor, some drama, and some psychological analysis (by the characters). With this book, I feel like everything is pretty well wrapped up for now and yet that there could easily be a lot more to come both with the main character and with spin offs in this universe. I’m going to read the merchant books next! :)
One warning though: it can be dark and violent at times (mostly in game, but at least once in ‘real’ life in the first book and once in this one). I wouldn’t want my 12 year old nephew to read it. Not so much due to the violence itself (he enjoys watching Avenger movies, etc.), but more due to how the main character deals with the final act of violence. Don’t get me wrong, it was in many ways the character’s only option at the time. I just don’t think the scenario and aftermath is something a kid should be exposed to, especially since we get to hear Darwin’s thoughts.

3.5 stars. A bit better than book 2, but still suffered from unnecessary verbiage, juvenile and otherwise. The story advanced, and seems on the tipping point of concluded, vs. a second story arc.
That said, I read the blurbs for the next two books in this series, but I don't think I can be bothered as they move to another MC and storyline entirely. If it's another story, bill it as such. When I get at all invested in particular characters, I am rarely if ever interested in other stories set in that milieu. Since this wasn't that strong a series to begin with, I think this one ends in 3 books for me.

This is just another awesome book in another awesome series. I do like the fact that there's gotta be like 50 different plot lines running through this, but they aren't confusing to follow. This is also one of the few times trying to follow different people at the same time in a book didn't make me want to jump off a bridge. I liked the book, if you've made it to this book by now, you're either in for the long haul, or you're not.

Wonderful
I can't tell you how many stories I've read that either had lackluster endings or didn't end at all. The characters were good with their own personalities and sense of agency. The world was fascinating. I had a great time.

This has lost the spark that made the first one so good.
It has become a convoluted mess of hidden agendas. It has lost any sense of fun, and become quite boring to read. The character interactions seem very forced and unbelievable.

Good conclusion to a fun series. This definitely went in a direction that I did not anticipate. There were multiple surprises which ends with a fun finish. I’m interested to see what the other series in this world contains. It is a very well made world that is worth exploring more.

Not as strong as the first 2 volumes.
I enjoyed this one the least but still a good series! Introduced me to a whole new genre I didn't know existed. A genre that was made for me!

The bathrobe wearing swashbuckler returns in the newest entry in the series. Darwin once again ties his bathrobe closed(thank you, could you wear some pants?) and strides forth at the head of his own army. Many of the secrets hinted at in the last two novels are revealed, but like many authors, this one leaves you looking for more.
The book is far from perfect, but you can definitely see a positive progression in the authors writing. The biggest issue of this book is that it's hard to tell if it's the end or if book 4(and maybe 5 and 6) are in the offing. While much of the story is resolved, there are some issues that beg the question, are we done yet? Characters that seemed to drop off the face of Tiqpa, others experiencing violent mood swings(is it a full moon?), and lots of humor and not a little flirting.
I still enjoyed the book, and could definitely see it ending here. I mean, no author can completely avoid the stigma of the hanging plot thread, so I won't hold it against him. But, while I could easily see this being the end of the book, and be honestly content with it, I really do want to see more.
So start reading this, and in between pages, send a message to the author and tell him to get moving on the next book so that we can read more about this demon knight and his avante garde attire.

I gave up at the 90% point, which is a first for me - to get so close to finishing but then noping out. After enjoying the first two books, I couldn't understand why the third wasn't grabbing me. It used the same characters and style, but something was missing.
I can only guess that the growing number of massive mysteries surrounding Darwin started to lack realism. No one was even discussing them, much less trying to discover answers. Add to that, the moral ambiguity of almost every character, and my enthusiasm started to sag under the weight.
Further, the constant use of hyperbolic analogies and metaphor is amusing in small doses but became cringe-worthy beyond a certain point. I'm sorry, but most of them were not even clever, much less funny. For example:

He knew where the palace was. Who didn’t? It stood out more than that one girl with a callipygian figure and yoga pants in the gym trying to do bent over rows off a squat rack.

Passive Skills: Soul Sever (Level 1)--Killing enemies grants one charge. Killing enemy players grants ten charges. If an enemy player is killed the enemy player will lose one level.
This was one of the messages received by Darwin at the beginning of chapter 4 of Volume 1. This doesn't come into play at any point in time of the series and considering that the he attacks more and more players then why would they continue to give away EXP like this?
Also, as more player demons start coming out, aren't the racial skills available to everyone? Why is Darwin the one able to create risen when they are all technically all able to? What about the NPC's, especially as they are becoming more and more autonomous?
Anyways, the story is fun and I'll wait to pick up further volumes through an ebook sale or something like that, to support the author, but I still think that the author and editor, as well as the plethora of readers of the serial should do a better job of bringing the gaming aspect into the book, and keeping track of things like I mentioned.

Good enough
At the beginning i have had some trouble, but at the end i am glad i bought this one too. Felt uneasy and kinda hated the whole book, especially after how much i loved the second book. Around at 3/4 of the book, i was feeling like "nyeh", but after that i was like "WHOAH!"
Mr. Dean loves to play with the readers, i have to say: at the first book, seemed like Eve is good, Stephanie is bad. Second book it changed, Eve is bad, Steph is good. At this, in the beginning, Charles is good, Steph is good and Eve is terrible, but at the end it complately switched: Eve nowhere on the screne, Charles is damned evil and Steph is kinda good if you can get in terms with her scheming.
Can't wait, till the next!

And then?
This was another great book in this series. Sadly, since I finished the first two months ago, it took me some time to recall all the characters and previous events. There was a lot less action in this book, but I feel certain that a lot of this book is build up for the book to follow. Was hoping this would be the end, only so I'd finally know what's going to happen with Tipqa and Darwin. I look forward to the next book and will happily purchase it as soon as I now it is available.

The book reads a little different from the first two, but I think that may just be attributed to the author's growth as a writer. The slap-stick style comedy that was so thick in the first book is slightly absent, but it doesn't detract really from the story. Truthfully, I was happy to finally have all those lingering questions from the first two books answered, and am eager to see where this story goes now that all the holes have been filled.

Ha I knew it. That bastard!. This is a so a "THAT BASTARD HE KILLED KENNY!" moment although happily it didn't take. Our main man can't be with out his naive squeeze. Hmm interesting, now what happened to the Niece? Come on Charles Dean you can't just introduce the existence of such a character and then don't even include a least a little blurb form their point of view... Also what ever happened to those bastards from the First book? Hmmm they simply vanished... All Hail the Great Demon Spoon Lord!
