Rate this book
Determined to find her fiancé’s murderer, Rosie remains undercover at the Purple Passion Lounge, where she is convinced it will all end. Partnering up with Brian and Mike, who are also investigating suspicious goings-on there, she becomes involved in more trouble. As a psychic and tarot card reader, Rosie knows the Death card popping up means more deaths are to happen. She then needs to use her talents in a whole new way to save people or solve murders.
Just as things couldn’t get worse, her former college roommates head to Las Vegas for a planned visit. Things go awry. Her friends begin to discover some of what Rosie is involved in when they are kidnapped. Their sisterhood is hilarious while death still abounds all around Rosie, heading toward a grand finale. Her silky dog, Sweet Pea, is her sidekick and her grandmother’s spirit still pops into her life with advice or simple expressions of love --- sometimes at the most ill-timed moments.

Joan grew up in Elmira, a small town in New York State, and now makes her home in Las Vegas, Nevada, with her silky terrier pup, Sweet Pea, a character in her Death Card Series.

She grew up in a family who always read books and were happy to discuss the storyline and its plots, encouraging the idea of becoming a writer. In her twenties, she began to test the waters by writing short stories, which was short-lived when marriage and children took over. It wasn’t until 2008 that she began to write her books in earnest.

Joan writes about what she’s been drawn to with her spiritual and supernatural beliefs, and her interest in addiction and human trafficking. Her writing is realistic yet optimistic, and it shows her softer, humorous side.

Joan S. Peck is an editor and author of short stories, spiritual books, and has a mystery book series called The Death Card Series. She is also a contributing writer for Choices magazine and is the Editor in Chief for the Chic Compass magazine, produced in Las Vegas and available worldwide.

Her latest authoring is the Death Card Mystery Series. “To me, the fun of reading mystery books is to become so intrigued with the story it becomes impossible to put the book down. The fun of writing them is to put you in that same situation.”

Her 9th book, a stand-alone novel, “Angels Out of the Dark” is about Lucy and Lester, a couple who picks four women off the streets to become their “angels” to help other girls off the streets. It is a story you will think about long after you’ve read the book and put it down.

The death card keeps coming up. The first third of this book was slow going and boring. Small print and a lot of time taken up with Rosalie on a three day getaway with her college friends, but after that the book really picked up. Mike and Brian are using Rosalie’s premonitions and psychic ability to help them find the killer of several women and one man all relating to the Purple Passion Lounge. And this person is probably behind the human trafficking of young Mexican girls. But having Mike live with her to protect her is creating feelings Rosalie hasn’t felt since her fiancé was murdered three years ago, and their investigation of the Purple Passion Lounge might also be related to the dirty cops who Rosalie wants to prove murdered Jeff. As the days and weeks go by, her dead grandmother talking to her and warning her saves both her and several others. But the big question is who is B.B. the head of everything that is going on? Once they find this out they can take down the whole organization, but they find corruption in not only the police department but also the news media. Who can they trust? I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Charme Curtin Good reads

Started and finished this book today.. It kept me glued to the pages as the happenings seemed so real and not contrived like in a lot of mystery novels. Cannot wait to read the next. Of course, living in Las Vegas and know the area makes it even more real.

Death?

Being a Psychic and getting omens through Tarot cards is no joke. Rosebud a nickname for Rosalie is fitting as it's how her dead gramma messages her. No spoilers. Great series. Go get the books

Mais uma narrativa com muitas cenas tensas, o desenrolar de uma história de amor, e soluções de crimes acontecidos no primeiro livro da série. Gostei.

Loved the second book even more than the first. It’s great reading about Rosalie and her adventures. Glad that Mike was finally able to break through Rosalies exterior.

Looking forward to the third adventure and what Rosalie will get involved in.

Book 2 in the Death Card Series, Death at the Lake by J.S. Peck picks up where the story ended in Death on the Strip. Rosalie Bennett is determined to uncover who killed Melissa, Rosie's former client and Sally, a dancer at the Purple Passion Lounge. She continues working with Brian and Mike to solve the mystery and can't quite figure out which of the guys she likes best. (It would be a spoiler to tell you more.) Ever present murder and mayhem ensues as they navigate their way through a maze of relationships among the suspects and uncover what has really be going on. Romano and Mimi are a breath of fresh air at the Purple Passion Lounge and along with Rosie, give the story hope. Rosie is, as always, independent but accepts protection and is less reliant on her grandmother's spirit in this story. This was a good follow-up to the first book and I would recommend you read them in sequence so you understand the whole story. Lots of questions were answered and there is a feel good ending but the doorway of curiosity has opened to invite you into the next book, Death Returns. I'm looking forward to learning more about the budding romance! But I'm not telling with whom!

A satisfying read.

Not one to disappoint, Ms. Peck has hit it out of the park once again in the sequel to her first book Death on the Strip. She has given even more depths to it than the first one had. It explores the characters more and develops the storylines with greater clarity. We meet new people who we can relate to and of course look forward to seeing more of in book 3, Death Returns.

i received an ARC of the book from the author.

I really enjoyed reading Death at the Lake. This is book 2 in the series and it continues right from where book 1 ended. There is lots of action, adventure and plot twists to keep you reading right to the end. I liked the characters and the dynamics between them. There are some new characters in this book that I enjoyed, such as Rosie's best friends. The ending was great and left me excited to I see what happens in the next book.
