Medallion Honoree, signifying a book of the highest literary quality, and written by an independent writer; and, A Better Place to Be also received the Bronze Medal Award from Ireland's Drunken Druid International Literary Awards.
I found this thriller interesting as well as frightening. A former police officer credits a woman for saving his life in a car accident. His desire to find her leads him to the paranormal, parallel worlds and the unknown. Having been a big fan of the StarGate TV series, I was intrigued by the parallel worlds concept but scared of the character Langston who frightened me as he seemed to be very evil. It's a very interesting book - the subject of which I generally would not have searched out, but an intriguing story. I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

This book has such an interesting premise and it really delivers. A deeply logical man, Aaren is involved in a car accident, certain that the woman he swerved to miss was there, despite all evidence telling him that she wasn't. Along with his best friend, Michael, he is plunged into the words of shifters and the paranormal as he tries to find and save the mysterious woman. It took a little while to get into the plot, with the customary shrink telling him that he wants to help and the family member that doesn't support him, but once Arren and Michael are together, it is fast paced and intense until the end. The narrator, however, was somewhat of a letdown. Normally they have different nuances for each character, but it was quite difficult to understand which character was talking. I was also personally happy as Aaron and Michael are two of my absolute favourite names.
Aaron is obsessed with finding a strange woman after a bad car accident. This book had alternate worlds and the other side. In a way it reminds me of Grimm the TV show lately. They are exploring this too in the show this season. I am a little unconvinced about the romance story in the book and since I listened to this book as an audio book I would say I wish the narrator sued his pitch a little more with his voice. I like the characters to all sounds different, they sounds a little different if I really listened but not very much. This writer has truly done a fabulous job with this story. The characters are great, the plot is easy to follow, with a storyline which flows with great ease. This is truly a great read.
The storyline was good. The doorway to other worlds is something that many bad guys want, in order to rule other lands. Erin sees a women on a dark road and he almost dies, people think he is crazy the only one to help is his friend Michael. Together they embark on a mission to find kelly. She has a secret thats deadly. It was good but it was a little long, would have been better if it got into the story sooner.
This is the first book by this author and narrator that I have listened to and I didn't really know what to expect but the plot sounded intriguing so I gave it a go. I am glad I did, it is certainly different to what I normally listen to but I enjoyed it. A lot happened to keep you hooked until the end love, death, power hungry bad guys. Worth a listen. Arren after suffering a near death car crash goes mad well that is what his doctors believe but Arren and his Navajo college roommate know better. The girl he nearly hit on the road is real and she needs there help. Oh and she is a shape shifter, with big problems the main one trying to get back to her world before she goes insane and starts killing everyone. It's a race against time as the bad guys don't want to let her go. I liked the narrator and think he does an excellent job with all the voices.
This book has a very interesting storyline. Aaron is traveling in his car when he loses control of it, as he sees a woman in the roadway. He begins to have a telepathic relationship with her and loses his job over his obsession to find her. What he ends up learning is that she is from a parallel world and there are others with her. Can they find a way for her to get back to her world and does she even want to go now that she found her soul mate. The book is very well written and I would give it 4.5 stars. The only reason my review wasn't even higher is the concept used for the doorway lost me a little. But don't let that stop you from reading it. * I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I am reviewing the audio copy of the book. It is a paranormal book and that is not usually my style. This one grabbed me and brought me into the story. What if the werewolf, Dracula and other things we call supernatural were natural but from another earth. One parallel to ours. What if they wanted to get home. What if the US government wanted to weaponize their skills. That is the premise of this story. It was a good listen, but some of my Christian friends may not take an interest to it because of the supernatural aspect of it.
I REALLY enjoyed listening to this one! I listened a few weeks ago and it somehow got skipped when I was reviewing things (and I really hate skipping things!). So I'm a little short on details but I loved the narration. The story kept me interested throughout the entire book! And I will def be looking for more from David Wind and Patrick Freeman! It was an excellent audiobook.
This book was given to me at my request (Thanx David). I am providing a honest and voluntary review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It started out fast paced and never let up on the intensity. It had it all, mysticism, danger, love, the unknown and a fulfilling end.
My review is based on the audiobook. This is a good story that keeps your interest throughout. It is different than the normal shapeshifter stories and I really liked that. The narrator did a wonderful job bringing the story to life. I look forward to more by this author
"Oh my unexpectedly greeeaat" audio version Overall 5 Performance 5 Story 5 The story was great. The narrator brought it alive. I can't say more without spoiling it and I hate spoilers. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audio book at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. This did not impact my review in any way.

As they dig into the mystery they find a secret government program to access parallel worlds where humans might not be exactly 100% human. Tuns out Callie is from a parallel world and has a few abilities your typical person doesn't have. Will Arren be able to rescue Callie? Will they be able to have a long and happy life together?
