I feel like this book gives mixed messages about dinosaur touching by saying not to touch the dinosaur, but pairing the dinosaurs with fun textures for touching! All kidding aside, a really cute book and one that my 9-month-old actually pays attention to because he wants to touch all the cool dino-skins.

The rhymes are not amazing but the tactile format makes it very engaging for really little kids.

Fun but message inconsistent. Why all the touchy things but you’re telling me not to touch?

Misleading title. Dinosaurs are too enticing to touch.

My four year old got this for his birthday and we've read it several times. We like the bits on the pages that we can touch...yes, even me. The story is super cute and I love the art. I do wish there was just a bit more to the story but there are a lot of days that I really appreciate the brevity.

This was a short and cute read with nephew. He likes dinosaurs and things he can feel, so all the different textures was a nice touch. The illustrations were cute. It was a little weird to say not to touch a dinosaur, but then had the textures on the dinosaurs themselves. 4 out of 5 stars.

Short and with only one good tactile page. The writing is full of mixed messages and doesn’t really rhyme. Yet my son yearns to rub the pointy rubber cover. So an extra star is in order.

But don’t get it twisted - never touch this dinosaur book.
It really won’t be fun.

Funny tactile board book about dinosaurs, but “claws” does not rhyme with “doors.” Kids will probably love it.

This book: don't touch a dinosaur

Also this book: *puts fun rubbery textures that kids can't resist on the dinosaurs*

It confuses my 3 yo nephew.

Also, sends the message that it's ok to touch things even if you've been told not to. Not helpful if u want ur kid to respect boundaries

I'm not a fan of this series because it assumes that children will do what they are told not to do. Even if they do - why encourage that? The rhymes are ok, the pictures are ok. The only thing about this one that I really like is the durable touch-and-feel aspect.

{My thoughts} – I have become a huge fan of these books ever since I ran across you should Never Touch a Dragon a couple of years back. I have slowly been working on trying to get my hands on more of the series. I think it’s a colorful and fun series for children.

The cover is bright and eye catching and appealing. The texture differences that are on each page help to engage your child in more then just sight. The words and text are also formatted in different ways to help appeal to your child. It is colorful, fancy and fun.

This particular book is about dinosaurs and it is written in a rhyme like pattern. It talks about the illustrations as well as how you should probably go the other direction instead of touching a dinosaur of any type. It teaches children in a silly way that is sure to entertain them once they are able to understand the context of the words within the rhymes.

I recommend this book for any child that enjoys touching and feeling different kinds of textures. I also recommend it for any child that enjoys being read to on a regular basis. This book has the potential to become a loved book for children.

The whole “Never Touch” series of books are a must have for anyone who interacts with babies through Kindergarten. Many books claim to be tactile in nature when, in fact, the illustrations differ so slightly from the base page that the descriptor is almost a lie. Not so with this terrific series that has a boldly colored animal on the right side of every page with a large section of that creature containing a contrasting color of distinctively bumpy, swirly, and/or striated rubbery-ness. The text on the left side of the page has different fonts and colors and is just as vivid as the critter it describes. The text, however, is the reason for only 4 stars. While illustrations are 5+, the text often has choppy rhythms that are sometimes awkward to read and while there is occasionally a bit of rhyme, the authors do not seem to work very hard at finding synonyms that might actually provide that component. Regardless of their textual shortcoming, parents, grands, and caregivers should look for all of these at bookstores, big box stores and Book Fairs at schools everywhere!

I've actually read this book approximately 1000 times this year. So I just picked a random date. This was my son's favorite book for many months, because he absolutely adores the textures, especially the ones on the front cover. Excellent book for babies. I need to buy another copy, because he loved it so much I had to let him play with it, and it is now, of course, without a cover.

There are two reasons I am giving 4 stars instead of 5, and both of them have more to do with me as a critic of the written word and much less to do with the book's suitability for babies. 1) The story kind of gives mixed messages (though it does address this on the back cover): It repeats on every page "never touch a dinosaur" while encouraging children to touch a dinosaur. Ok, this is entirely me just being silly. Kids don't care! So the real reason it loses a star is because 2) some of the rhymes are a stretch. I can't think of an accent of English where "claws" and "doors" rhyme. Someone please tell me I'm wrong, and then I'll bump this up a star!

This is one of Luke’s go-to board books. We’ve read this and the "Never Touch a Dragon" version since he was a newborn practically. The older he became, the more he’d touch the rubbery textile sections. Baby-baby Luke enjoyed the brightly colored pages. They hit the mark on appealing to kiddos’ senses of touch and sight! The “Never Touch a....” series is cute and quite popular. I did my book photo using the thorns of a rose in the background to emphasize the book’s theme.Funny story, I warned Luke about not touching plants with thorns. “They are ouchie!” and he responded by trying to kiss the rose bush. I hollered, “No!”My dad was the person to figure out Luke was just trying to kiss it to make the “ouchie” go away. My sweet and precious baby!!

With the recent spate of Jurassic World books, where are the new dinosaur books for the little ones? Here!

Never Touch a Dinosaur! is a touch-and-feel book that is different than the norm. Instead of the usual sandpaper, sisal weave, and fluffiness, these dinosaurs are all nubbly! The dinosaurs have differently textured rubber spikes and stripes. It would be a rather good change of pace for those younglings that like to touch what they are reading (perhaps, especially those with sensory needs). But remember, never touch a dinosaur! They might try to eat you!

Never Touch a Dinosaur, by Rosie Greening, is such a fun book to read to younger elementary students. I read this book to my “kindergarten friend” for an assignment for a class last week, and it was a huge hit. He loved it. The different “spikes” on each page of the book for the students to feel add such a unique touch to this book. The students not only get read to, but they get to interact with the book by touching the different dinosaurs on each page. I would suggest doing a whole lesson on different types of dinosaurs and reading this book as part of it.
