Emma Miller is an author of many types of Amish books, mainly straight on romances. I may not have read them all, but the ones that I have read have never received less than a 4-star rating from me and this book is no exception.

I giggled while reading this book and I cried too -and I can say that it takes an exceptional book to bring out that much emotion in me.

There is very little sermonizing in this book but it is a very clean romance (naturally) so if you are hesitant to read this because of its religious overtones -don't be. I am the least religious person you will have ever met and I love these books. Ms. Miller does a fine balancing act mixing a bit of religion with the everyday.

The main plot is one that you expect -confident boy meets a shy and slightly awkward girl, the boy immediately takes a liking to the girl, there is a huge misunderstanding that eventually gets straightened out and we have our HEA! There is a slight secondary plot concerning Loveys mother and a pregnancy and that was interesting. I only wish the author had given a tad more story over to that.

This book is well worth the time that is taken to read.

This book was a pleasure to read. Longer than a novella but shorter than a full-length novel, it was perfect for finishing in one night. I fell in love with Lovage's big family and her sisters named for a variety of spices. Lovage struggles with self-confidence in the shadow of her younger sister, so it was nice to see her perspective shift as Marshall falls head over heels for her. His sunny personality is a perfect match for bringing Loveage out of her shell, and even though they have their struggles, they develop a strong relationship based on friendship as they get to know each other. A super sweet Amish romance!

Laugh out loud delightful are the first words that come to mind about this book.
A man who knows his mind, and a young Amish woman who has low self-esteem, and we get to see who wins!
The author has given us a strong woman who loves her family, and being her mother’s oldest has been given a lot of responsibilities through the years, including getting a home ready for sale in a different state.
The we have a young man given the responsibility of raising his younger brother and caring for his grandmother.
Has fate put them together, or has God put this on their hearts? We get a front seat and this quickly became a page turner for me, and a sense of loss once the last page was there.

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Harlequin, and was not required to give a positive review.

Lovey has some self-esteem issues, thinking she is not pretty enough to attract a beau. Though tall and gangly, she is still lovely with her nut-brown hair and green eyes. Marshall certainly thinks so the very first time he sees her. He doesn’t help his case, though, since he asks her to marry him within moments of meeting her! This story’s interesting plot has these two protagonists quipping and sparing at each other, as Marshall pursues Lovey while she is keeping him at arm’s length. But just as she realizes she is in love with him, something happens that changes Marshall’s mind. It’s quite a well written and an entertaining Amish romance, complete with a sprinkling of humor, and hopefully, a happy ending.

Every time Marshall Byler sees Lovey Stutzman, he asks her to marry him. Lovey sees herself as unlovely and undesirable. Why this Amish community’s handsomest bachelor would be interested in her, but she’s intrigued. She spends time with him, which makes her sister Ginger jealous.

Eh... this book was just okay.

The author was incredibly detailed in some areas but then lacked in others. Scenes were switched with no warning except for a blank line between paragraphs. Key events were glossed over (dinner with family members, the birthday party, singings, etc) while we know the exact detail of every dress Lovey wore throughout the book. There was also no closure with Lovey's mother.

When Lovey Stutzman’s accepts her sister’s dare to take a buggy ride with Marshall Byler, she didn’t realize that she was about to embark on a road to a happy future.

However, the studious Amish woman would rather attend to her family and their business. Besides, Lovey has a beautiful younger sister and cannot accept the fact that Marshall is truly interested in her.

This was a very touching story. Lovey is a beautiful, responsible woman who believes love is for everyone else. As drawn as she is to Marshall she can’t see experiencing love in her future.

Quite naturally this is a clean romance, but it is very effective. I felt very drawn to the characters. Both Lovey and Marshall were really special. I especially loved how Marshall proposed marriage every time they were together. Lovey’s sister Ginger could be a pain, but I did like her and really hope that one day she gets her own story.

There were other well-developed characters in this story. Lovey’s parents were just too sweet and I enjoyed their story as well. This warm story was a delightful read and has a wonderful conclusion.

Many thanks from Love Inspired and to NetGalley for this ARC to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

I'm finding that I *REALLY* like Emma Miller's Amish books. Even though... well, I'm not a fan of the Amish. And this is definitely a keeper - even though I had more than a couple of issues with it.

Why not? Well, in this book, they buy an electric fan for her mother, they have raised garden beds (!!! WORST way to garden in the universe, takes four times the watering, because everything not in the ground dries up, hello...), they have fans with graven images of Jesus on them (!!!). They have a vet who's got permission to own a truck and drive, but only during work hours. So now the Amish can add addendums to their rules, if it suits them? What the heck? And on 204, they're not allowed to work on Sundays, but there's so much to do, it's okay if they bend the rules and work, so long as someone's reading the Bible to them while they do it? Why even bother???

But the story makes it worth everything. Marshall sees Lovey (Her name drove me BATS - Lovage?!) and he knows immediately that this is the woman he's going to marry. There's no explanation for it -he just *KNOWS*, and that's it, for him. The entire rest of the story is Marshall trying to win her heart. And he's absolutely adorable. Sweetest male character I've ever read. Ever.

But frankly, he would NOT be thirty and single. Not in the Amish community - not when he's been out of school since 16... and he's going on FOURTEEN years of being the most handsome, eligible, friendly, outgoing bachelor? No. Just no.

They meet when Marshall brings a broken leather strap to the harness shop, sees a pitcher of lemonade and a sign that says 'Refresh yourself', and chugs down... only to see Lovey coming into the shop with the sugar for the (not yet sweetened) lemonade. A cute introduction, but are we really to believe that the womenfolk would take a pitcher of lemonade OUT of the kitchen before it's finished, just to go BACK to the house to get sugar and BACK to the shop to sweeten it and then bring the sugar bag BACK to the house, yet again? Wouldn't she bring the pitcher back to the house to fix, even if it was an oversight? The whole thing is WAYYYYYY to much of a stretch.

And as for the 'Amish Spinster's Courtship'... she's *NOT* a spinster. She was shy and stand-offish and not concerned about relationships for a time, but then she'd been walking out with (of ALL names) Ishmael Slabbaugh (← pronounced Slob-o? Seriously?!?!?). But then that fell through and the WEEK she moves to a new state, Marshall is all over her. NOT a spinster.

But Lovey insists she's too tall, too skinny, not pretty, not outgoing enough, and not personable. If she weren't? Nobody'd be knockin' on her door, for the love of Mike... :/

I'm keeping the book for Marshall. He's a wonderful character. But I swear to you, these people are as Amish as I am... and I'm not Amish. I have goats, chicken, ducks, geese, and bees, I can tomatoes and sugarbush my trees, tend a garden and homeschool my children, but I don't pretend to keep laws that I'm not keeping, hello.

Which... is not shocking. I've never met an Amish person who wasn't a hypocrite or a cheat, yet, and I lived eight years in Amish country, with a cousin who was Amish for a decade.

Still. If you're looking for a good 'Amish-y' read... this is one to spend an hour on.

The Amish Spinster's Courtship by Emma Miller
An Amish courtship no one expected…
But is he too good to be true?
To prove she has a fun side, ultraserious Lovey Stutzman accepts her sister’s dare: a buggy ride with Hickory Grove’s most handsome Amish bachelor. But what Lovey can’t accept is Marshall Byler’s claim that he fell in love with her at first sight. Now Marshall must defy everyone’s expectations—including his family’s—to prove his intentions once and for all
This Lovey Stutzman and Marshall Byler's story.
Marshall gasped as the strong taste of sour lemon filled his mouth and made his eyes water. He grimaced and began to choke just as the door swung open to reveal a young Amish woman in a green dress and white kapp. He tried to clear his throat and coughed.
“Atch,” she said, and clapped a hand over her mouth to suppress a giggle. “You weren’t supposed to drink that yet.” She held up a pint jar of raw sugar in one hand and a wooden spoon in the other. “I still need to add the sugar.”
“You’re telling me,” Marshall replied. Rather, he tried to reply, but his voice came out in a strangled croak and he began to cough again.
She pointed at him with her spoon and grimaced. “Sorry. Though my mam did teach me to make lemonade so you could taste the lemons.”
Marshall Byler stepped into the shade of the concrete block dairy barn that housed the new Miller harness shop and breathed a sigh of relief. The July sun was hot and the day was muggy, just what one would expect for midsummer in Kent County and sure to make the corn grow. He’d been cultivating his corn in his east field when a groundhog had startled Toby, the younger of his two horses, and he’d spooked.
Marshall had gotten the horses calmed down before they tore up more than a small portion of his crop. However, somewhere in the frantic shying of the team, Toby’s britchen strap, a section of harness that kept the horse from getting tangled in the traces, snapped. Marshall didn’t need the harness immediately, but he decided to go ahead and drop it off for repair right away, so it would be ready when he needed it again.
Miller’s Harness Shop would save him time because it was closer to his farm than the Troyer Harness Shop, which he usually frequented. And he also liked the idea of giving his business to the new place; there was enough leatherwork to be done in Hickory Grove to support both the Troyer and the Miller families. Besides, the shop was owned by his new friend Will’s father and it seemed only right to go there.
I am looking forward to reading more books by Emma Miller.
I highly recommend reading.

This book proves that sometimes the hardest love story is the one where you have to believe you’re worthy of being loved in the first place.

Lovey Stutzman has resigned herself to being the “spinster sister”, too tall, too plain, too serious, too…everything. Enter Marshall Byler, Hickory Grove’s most eligible bachelor, who shocks everyone (Lovey most of all) by deciding she’s the one. Cue gasps, side-eyed whispers, and a whole lot of self-doubt.

Marshall doesn’t just flirt, he pursues her like he’s already picked out the wedding china. He even drops a marriage proposal early on, while Lovey is still double-checking if he’s talking to the right sister. Naturally, the community thinks he’s crazy, Lovey thinks he’s delusional, and I think Amish grandmothers everywhere were fanning themselves.

The middle drags a bit with the predictable “does he really love me or just the idea of me?” misunderstanding, but I appreciated that Lovey’s insecurities weren’t just swept under the rug. Watching her slowly step into her own worth, while Marshall patiently proves his devotion, is the heart of the story. By the end, you’re not just rooting for them as a couple, you’re rooting for Lovey as a woman who finally sees herself the way he always did.

Yes, it’s sweet, yes, it’s clean, and yes, you can see the happy ending from a mile away…but honestly? That’s part of the charm. Like homemade pie, you don’t complain when it tastes exactly like comfort.

The Amish Spinster's Courtship is another great story written by Emma Miller. This storyline had me laughing in several places. I enjoyed the creative storyline a lot. The characters are well developed and likeable.

The characters of Loveage and Marshall work very well together to tell this story. Their journey was not an easy one but it will have you smiling in many places. As with all love stories it doesn't go smoothly. Forgiveness is a definite in this story. Love at first sight so sweet. The love for family and putting others first is a great lesson. The author has done a remarkable job telling this story.

I was not given a complimentary copy of this book to read and review. I was not approached by anyone to post a favorable review. I have rated this book with five stars for meeting my expectations of a wonderful story that I can highly recommend to others.

Congratulations to Emma Miller for writing another outstanding story for her readers to enjoy.

This book has everything you want from an Amish romance. A woman who believes she is no marriage prize. A man who sees beyond the surface, and is certain she is the only one for him. A misunderstanding between them that is enough to test their bond, but not too dire or dramatic. Faith and forgiveness, but without preachiness. And an acknowledgement that for all of that community’s traditional values and consummate state of patriarchy, there is still room for unconventionality in its denizens – particularly, in its women. – Sarah Xavier-Jones

I’d settle for formulaic, but this book was both that and also badly written. One sentence a husband is reading from the Bible, the next he’s peering over his newspaper, pausing his reading. Do the Amish have newspaper bibles?

There are so many characters named that a reader never knows whether one may figure substantially or just feature as background color. Fewer folks means less effort to know who is whos relative.

Not much happens in the book. And when there’s a pregnancy issue, we readers are not informed of the outcome. The 45 year-old Amish mom isn’t even referenced four years later in the two-page epilogue.

Worth a read if you’re interested in Amish life in Delaware.

"The Amish Spinster's Courtshp" by Emma Miller. Lovey moves with her family to Delaware and at 25, is considered older as far as women in her community who are not married. Marshall comes to their shop and sees a pitcher of lemonade that says help yourself, he does, but Lovely had not put sugar in it, and he as he talks to her, it is love at first sight. But Lovey isn't sure since she isn't what she considers the kind of woman most Amish men find attractive. Marshall teases her he is in love and will marry her, except then a simple thing come between them. An easy read!

This was a fun read. I really enjoyed getting to know Lovey, the heroine, and Marshall, the hero, and watching them both grow as individuals as well as a couple. It was an enjoyable look into everyday Amish life. I loved reading about all the food. Would have loved having a recipe included for one of the dishes mentioned.

Lovage Stutzman has always felt out of place. In a family where her sisters are all cute, petite blondes, she is tall, gangly and dark-haired. To further destroy her self-confidence, her first serious beau admits to her that he only proposed to her because his first choice turned him down, and he figured she had so few choices that she'd accept him. Is it any wonder that she has trouble believing that handsome Marshall Byler would be so smitten by her that he would propose the first time he meets her?

Walking into his new neighbor's harness shop, Marshall Byler expects to get his harness repaired. He doesn't expect to find the perfect woman behind the counter. He's 30 and past ready to marry, but the women he's met so far have all been too young and silly. When he meets Lovey, he immediately sees in her exactly the woman who could be his helpmeet. Now all he has to do is convince her - and his grandmother - that she's just right for him.

With humor and depth, Emma Miller tells the story of the courtship that Marshall and Lovey engage in. Marshall is so fun! His frequent proposals are a hoot, but his depth of character is what finally draws Lovey in. While true love doesn't always run smooth for this pair, readers will still enjoy reading about their path to happily ever after.

I LOVED this book and couldn't read it fast enough!

Lovey and Marshals book is a adorable read that really questions faith and family relationships. I loved the banter and how Marshal looked thru his family and more into his faith to show how Lovey was the one for him. A great Sunday read!

Marshal’s horse spooked and broek a part of the harness. Marshal took the part to his new friend- Will’s stepfathers harness shop-Millers Harness Shop. When he went in the shop no one seemed to be around he even rang the bell. Than he saw some lemonade with a sign to help yourself and Marshall realized how thirsty he really was.. When he toks a large mouth full all he tasted was sour lemons, and started choking on it. Than a young Amish woman came into the shop and said she hadn’t added sugar to the lemonade yet. There was something different yet familiar about her- as though he had known her all his life. His grandmother- who lived with him and his younger brother- Sam-had just been discussing his marriage prospects. She wasn’t a beauty in the usual sense, not tiny and softly rounded. But when the newcomer turned her green eyes on him he found himself almost stunned. She was as sharp as a straight razor and direct in her speech, more outspoken than most of the girls around here. He asked her name and she said it was Lovage but her first name was really Hannah Lovage she didn’t use Hannah. Lovey was the oldest of the five girls and one boy her parents had but her father -Ethan- passed away and her mother -Rosemary- ended up marrying his best friend Benjamim who had five boys of his own. Lovey was very close to her mom. Lovey’s mom was also pregnant. Marshall asked Lovey to ride home with him after the softball game Saturday night. Her sister Ginger said if Lovey did ride with him she would take Lovey’s turn at washing the dishes for a week. Lovey thought it was too bad she didn’t inherit her moms sunny disposition and lovely features instead of taking after her father. Marshall had Lovey stumble over her words and confuse her thinking. Marshall admitted he wanted to see Lovey again that was why he had come to check on his harness before he knew it would be done. Marshall asked again about giving Lovey a ride after the game and Lovey said she might. Marshall had went from being his younger brother Sam’s brother to parent when his father passed away, his grandmother also lived with them. Sam was twelve years old. His grandmother wanted how to marry his neighbor Faith as did her mother. Sam wasn’t much of a talker but he was a hard worker and very smart and invented a lot of things to help around the farm. After the game Marshall appeared at Lovey’s side and asked her if she’d like something to drink. Lovey found she liked Marshall, he was fun to be around, always laughing and joking, but he was also a kind man. He gave out compliments freely and and seemed endlessly supportive. He was also the most handsome man on the field. There was something about him that made Lovey a little light headed when she was able to steal a look at him and he wasn’t looking. Lovey rode home with Marshall but had her younger brother Jesse go with them. Marshall accepted that with no problem. After he was walking Lovey to the door he asked her to marry him. Lovey said absolutely not as he didn’t even know her. Eventually Lovey did agree to be Marshall’s girl as she was having her feelings for him grow.
I loved this book. I loved the pace and plot. I didn’t want to put this down. I loved Marshall was so sure right away Lovey was the one for him right from their first meeting. I loved Marshall and Lovey together. I loved how close Lovey was to her mom and the rest of her family. A very well written Amish read. I also loved how Marshall stepped up and became a parent to his younger brother Sam. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I highly recommend it.

Who is Marshall Byler and where is he from? Who are Lovage, Ginger, Bay, Tarragon, and Rosemary? Who is Benjamin? I really like Marshall!!! When Marshall keeps going back to Benjamin's harness shop to check on his item that he dropped off for repairs, what happens? Why does Loveage ride with him after a weekday ballgame at the Bishop's house? Who is Jesse and why is he in the buggy as well? As the story progresses, many interesting things happen. You'll have to see what Ginger does that nearly ruins everything. Enjoy the story! I did!!!
