Rate this book
When an elderly woman is murdered, her carer becomes the prime suspect.

Detective Inspector Catherine Harper isn’t so sure. Having met the victim’s carer, Elspeth Gable, she can’t believe the gentle Wiccan would have committed a vicious murder. When other victims and sinister grave robbing come to light, Catherine turns to Elsbeth for help finding the real killer.

As they hunt a merciless killer of witches the two women find themselves drawn to each other. At the centre of a modern-day witch hunt, can they find a way to be together?

Set against the backdrop of pagan Glastonbury, ‘Dead to Rites’ is a novel that explores the prejudice faced by witches and the true nature of evil.

What's better than a book about witchcraft? A book about witchcraft and murder. What's better than a book about witchcraft and murder? How about a book about witchcraft and murder where the crime is pinned on an innocent social care worker and the only person who believes her innocence is the detective in charge of the case, while both of them struggle with unhappy lives, their attraction to each other and oh by the way they're lesbians?

This book is tonally lighter than Goodwin's previous books, but just as suspense-filled and mysterious along the way. It's a real page turner and I highly recommend it for anyone who likes their murders mysterious and multiple.

Well worth reading if you enjoy Sarah Goodwin’s style - wasn’t sure what to expect considering that the book is before some of the other fab and more recent titles from Sarah. Likeable characters, great pace and structure. Don’t be put off by the odd typo, it’s worth bearing with for sure! Where is Harper and Gable #2…?!
