I just finished reading Undefiled by Raykel Tolson and WHOA 😲... I didn’t expect that ending! Definitely ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️s. I really enjoyed it.
Let me start by saying, I read this book without first reading the synopsis on the back cover. In all of my years of reading this was the first time I had ever done this. Therefore, I had no idea what the book was about upon reading it. I didn’t even know the name of the main character. I decided to let the story unfold without any expectations. I believe this allowed me to enjoy the story even more.
On a personal note... while reading this book I had a reader ah ha moment. I realized I enjoy dialogue driven novels. I like character conversations. And this book is filled with some interesting conversations. This book helped me to realize that dialogue between characters is what keeps my interest when reading novels. For me, the story comes alive when I read what the characters are saying, as opposed to reading too many descriptions. I understand setting the scene is important. However, too much description can get in the way of the story. In this book Raykel provides the perfect balance between dialogue and description.
With that being said, I enjoyed this book from the first chapter to the last. It was a quick read and very entertaining. It also leaves the reader pondering a question that I had no problem answering. My answer to that question is. “absolutely NOT”. If you want to know the question...you’ll have to read the book.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was entertaining and realistic. I laughed, I cried and those emotions had me totally engaged in the story. It is an easy read with Christian values and real life experiences.
This started out as a delightful romance starring African-Americans. Getting to know Liz and Anthony and girlfriends and families made me very happy.. Still, you knew that something would go wrong.
There was a very big secret that Anthony was keeping that could ruin their upcoming wedding. Liz was so insincere but was also judgmental. It took her taking with all of her friends before forgiving Anthony. I don't know how her marriage will be affected since it appears she did what her friends told her to do.
Will she run to them every time a problem in her marriage comes up? Anthony should have told her his secret before having sex with her and surely before he asked Liz to marry him. The big secret and everyone's reaction to it left me wondering if the forgiveness was true.
I loved the storyline and the characters even though I wish Anthony and Liz should have spent more time in the courting stage and getting to know each other I think they still complemented each other well... All the characters were pretty interesting and it was so sad that Mama Edna could not be around to see her sons happily ever after
I could not get into this story. I understand Lydia's hesitancy of getting involved with another man. She's ready now that Momma Edna has talked to her about her opening her life for love.
I just could not get into this story, especially Lydia and Anthony's relationship. I can understand her hesitancy about marrying him but I just could not get into the story.
This is an awesome love story of a man and woman, their past, what it means when Jesus died on the cross for ALL our sins, and what it means to REALLY love someone.
