Shingles Audio Collections #1

Shingles Audio Collection, Volume 1

Rate this book
Tantor Audio presents six must-listen stories from the horror comedy series Shingles.

The collection begins with The Ghost of Hooker Alley which introduces listeners to ten-year-old Sarah and six-year-old Tommy. After a quick bus ride into town to buy a gun, Sarah and Tommy think their problems are all but solved. That is, until a creepy weirdo follows them into an alley. But they aren't the only ones in that alley . . . The Monkey's Penis features Chris, a teenage boy who receives a birthday gift unlike any other. In Gary's Children a man's quest for stress relief leads to terror, and an unexpected kidnapping takes place in Aliens Wrecked Our Kegger. Zombies Ate My Homework is set in the middle of a zombie outbreak. Todd, his brother Andy, his best friend Tarik, and their tomboy friend Mikayla are forced to take shelter in the first place they can find-an adult novelty store. In the final story, The Legend of Jimmy Headshot the zombie apocalypse is upon us. The dead have risen from their graves to feed upon the flesh of the living, and twelve-year-old Jimmy couldn't be happier about it.

Contains mature themes.

Out of 6 stories, I only liked one. Those aren’t very good odds, despite the fact that I really enjoyed the sole story that I found laugh-out-loud funny, and wish to rate it higher. The fact that it was the first in the collection set a high standard and I kept hoping for another like it, but it didn’t happen. Not by a long shot.

3.5 Stars actually.
Not bad. Just not great.

This is basically 6 over-the-top silly but fun short stories.
Quick easy read. I occasionally laughed but again this is a collection involving monkey penises and butt plugs as self-defense tools.

Ghost of Hooker Alley - revenge story by 2 naive kids. Some funny stuff but not great
Monkey's Penis - boy wakes up with a giant monkey penis - funny but very silly
Gary's Children - Spilled seed comes back to haunt you - good concept
Aliens wrecked our kegger - Frat vs Aliens - probably the weakest of the stories
Zombies ate my homework - zombie story as told by 2 brothers - they find refuge in a sex shop
The legend of Jimmy Headshot - fun end of the world viewpoint as told by a kid

An interesting collection of adult humor short stories, very much not for kids, although kids are usually the main protagonists. The humor is juvenile and crude, from a sex toy that brings forth the ghosts of shall we say "wasted sperm" to middle schoolers facing the zombie apocalypse with nothing but the contents of an adult novelty store.

If that's up your alley (Hooker Alley, I suppose), then these audio versions are great. The only thing better than the audio version might be a movie. Speaking of which, there's an Indiegogo project for exactly that going on right now (August 2021). So, use a credit on this Audible collection and go back that movie. You won't be sorry, even if you are too embarrassed to tell anyone.

Sophomoric humor with horror

Some stories were better than others but overall an enjoyable listen. Some jokes were not just tongue in cheek but in your face but I don't mind, if you picked up this series it is obviously what you are looking for. Definitely NSFW, explicit content

So this one is definitely not for everyone. Individually, Zombies ruined our Kegger and The Tale of Jimmy Headshot are probably the tamest??? All of them are entertaining some are just more cringe worthy than the rest.

One of the BEST books I e read in a long time! The last story was my least favorite caused the kid was a little shit, and his “expertise” was a bit exaggerated. But even with that, I still rated this book 5⭐️. Definitely going to get the next book in the series!

Really messed up stories, good for a lot of laughs. Must have darker sense of humor.

Excellent! I had an outstanding time with most of these stories. They are rude frequently dirty and wonderful.

I think this might be the second most offensive book I've read behind koontown killing kaper, and that is a huge compliment.

A funny collection of rude, weird and foulmouthed kids in horror scenario's 3.5 stars

This is the collected audio edition of the Shingles novella series by the Authors and Dragons crowd. Expect a mix of weird scenario's, unsettling narrative and foulmouthed kids in unlikely horror scenes. The humor is tong-in-cheek and definitely geared towards a mature audience.

Tough I had a good time with this series I'd recommend people to first try a sample chapter or two and see if this mix of humor and horror is for you.

Recommended for a mature audience

I'm going to hell for listening to this one. It is bad, the worst, in the funniest way possible. I've warned you. And now there is a record online that I have read this, so I will never be elected president. Or will I?
