Demons of Divinity

Rate this book
A world on the brink of collapse.

A broken soldier who may be their last hope.

Reeling in the aftermath of the White Tower incident, Haldin Raish is struggling to get by. What he needs is time, peace and quiet, and probably the ear of an attentive soothsayer. But the raknoth have other plans...

Across Enochia, terror reigns. Civilians are disappearing. Monstrous hybrids roam the land, attacking faster than the Legion can keep up. Across Enochia, the raknoth are winning.

And to stop them, Haldin might have to lose what little he has left...

Luke is a storyteller whose dreams include learning the ways of the Force, becoming a sentient robot, and maybe even one day growing up. Also, lots of zombies… Don't ask.

After studying engineering science at Penn State and neuroengineering at Drexel, Luke finally decided to throw in the towel on actually building a working Iron Man suit, opting instead to simply make things up and write them down. Boy, is he having more fun now.

When he's not holed up in his cave trying to string words together, he can often be found powerlifting, video-gaming, reading, and/or drinking the darkest, most roasty beers he can get his mitts on.

You know what? Enough about Luke. He's not that interesting. But if you'd like to say hi to him for whatever reason, he'd probably be glad to hear from you. Contact him at luke@lukermitchell.com (kind of a silly email address, right?) with questions, critiques, or just a friendly hello!

This installment is better than the first, if possible!
The story climax
reveals additional levels of complexity with each chapter.
There’s an awful lot to digest, thrilling, chaotic and frightening depictions of hell, plenty of paranoia, and bucketfuls of bloody mayhem
itself to be positively exceptional.
Mitchell injects fresh life and more than a few sparks of originality into some familiar aspects of power wielded. There’s more mystery added with the introduction of new characters... I was completely mesmerized with the unraveling, adding more intrigue as the story progresses. Hard to put down series! I

This was actually published as "Demons of Divinity".

Like the other stories in this universe, Luke Mitchell really packs in the action. And like the other stories, he does not neglect character building and their relationships. This was truly an enjoyable read.

One of the things I've enjoyed in Luke's writing is his ability to have his characters form alliances between their enemies, yet do it in a way that is believable. In fact, all of his character interactions seem to be well thought out.

Pulls you in, holding your attention as the highs and lows of the story unfold before you.

Words like riveting, exciting and thrilling still don't do this story justice when describing it! It's so much more than that.

This book literally yanked me off my feet. The action scenes, the deep emotional content, the hard won escapes from danger, all this and more pulled me happily along, as chapter after chapter brought more excitement to an already gripping book.

Once I started reading, I had no thought of putting the book down. I really, honestly felt complete empathy with the main character Haldin Raish and his friends and loved ones. He is a Shaper, a human who can use his mind to shape energy to do what he wants it to. As a Telepath, and Shaper, he is anathema to other humans. He is considered a demon because it is felt by the religious leader of the Sanctum that his skills are not natural. However, the religious leader has a hidden agenda and Haldin Raish appears to be the focus of it. Between the army, and the religious powers that be, Haldin doesn't know who to trust or who to run from.

On Enochia a new threat, an extremely powerful enemy, the Raknoth, are killing people and taking others straight off the streets. People who will either be turned into hybrid Raknoth soldiers or be used in farming facilities to farm their blood while they are held unconscious in suspension.

Haldin, his girlfriend Elise and his friend Johnny, all do their best to track down the Raknoth farming facilities and destroy them before the Raknoth can grow their hybrid super soldiers and turn them loose on Enochia. Finding them is not easy, the farms are well hidden. The hybrids are super hard to kill. Being hybrids, they share the strength of their Raknoth progenitors and their telepathic skills and with human skills added into the mix, they are extremely hard to kill and they are extremely proficient hunters too.

Who else can save everyone on Enochia but Haldin Raish? Is he capable of handling such great amounts of energy at such a high cost to himself? Can he ever learn to balance his life so that others around him stay safe and he stays free? When he has saved everyone around him, will he then be executed as an unnatural demon? All these questions are answered in thebstory.

If you like alien verses human battles, with really believable fight scenes, this book is for you.
If you like excitement along with thrills and spills, this book is for you.
If you like a seriously misunderstood main character, who struggles against tremendous opposition to do what is right, this book is for you.
If you like a book that will seriously grip you throughout its entirety, this book is for you.
And if, !like me, you like all this and way more, then this book is definetly for you. Read it, and enjoy a darn good story.

This is Book 2 in the Enochian War series and continues the story of Hal and Elise and his friend Johnny, as well as the battles between the Raknoths, the Legion and the Sanctum. Hal was labelled as the Demon of Divinity for his actions during the White Tower Massacre at the end of book one, whilst those in leadership completely denied the existence of the invading alien Raknoths, seeking to drain the blood from the inhabitants of Enochia.

Hal has lost his mentor and teacher, Carlisle, who had been training Hal in the way of Expression, known as part of being a Shaper, as well as the skills of telepathy and telekinesis. He feels lost and is also being hunted by lots of different groups – Seekers, the Sanctum and High Cleric, those in the Legion that blame him for the deaths of their comrades in arms and also the Raknoth. Hal is now trying to help train Elise in Shaping and work on their relationship and have some peace and quiet.

This is not what others have planned for him. The Raknoth have other plans and attack the main city of Oasis and strike terror in other regions across Enochia. When they and their hybrids depart, the Legion discover of all the civilians, some are dead and the rest have disappeared. The Legion cannot defend all of the towns and defeat the hybrids and certainly not the Raknoth. The Raknoth can control the minds of humans and make them attack each other, so the Legions casualties are extremely high.

The Raknoth are winning the battle for Enochia. Hal is called in by the Legion to help them find ways to protect the Legionnaires in the fight against their foes. Hal is struggling with his task, as he was never trained in this aspect by Carlisle. Matters are getting out of control and Hal is a target for many and may be losing the only ones who believe in him. The battle is on and the outcome is still unsure.

I was lucky to receive an ARC copy of this book from the author and just couldn’t put it down and ended up staying up till 5.30 am to finish it, as I didn’t want to stop! The continuation from Book 1 is seamless and the author sets you up with great characters, a world that is totally believable and well described. The main hero of the book, Hal, is not always a heroic character, he is often whinny and out of control and very self centered and ignores his closest friends at the worst of times. An unusual hero in a fight for the life of all on his planet. I have freely given my own opinion of the book above and can’t wait for the next in the series.

This was one hell of a story. To me, it was very emotionally taxing, in some parts. After reading those parts I would have to take a break. But, then I would pick right back up, like a drug, and start reading again. It was that addicting.

Packed full of Raknoth action, a lot of whispering between Haldin and the General of the High Command, and some serious soul searching by Hal and Elise. We, the readers, definitely weren't lacking for any brain stimuli. This book held your attention. It may have had some parts that were a little wordy and not really necessary but it did not take away from the story one bit. In fact, it may have added to some of the characters essence's.

I wouldn't exactly say it ended in a cliffhanger (ok, some people might call it one, but I feel the current storyline was wrapped up, so it wasn't really a cliffhanger) but it left the story wide open for book three. Which, I absolutely can't wait for it to be published. I hope Luke R. Mitchell has book three waiting in the wings! Great read! Highly recommend this series!

I need to thank Luke Mitchell for the advanced readers copy of Demons of Divinity. In return, I offer this completely unbiased review.

Action, Combat, Gore Galore, Broto!

If you’re a fan of the Harvester series (or even if you haven’t read it yet), this series by Luke Mitchell is a page-turning dive into Haldin Raish’s backstory: how he came to be such a strong telepath; how he and Elise met; the story behind his relationship with the raknoth Alton Parker (which does not start out the way you might expect, if you came to this series from the Harvester series!)

If you’ve read the Harvester books, you’ll find more of the same kind of snappy dialogue and roller coaster action you’re already accustomed to, with nonstop impossible-odds battle scenes that our heroes nonetheless somehow manage to emerge from. It’s fun to get a little more context for the mysterious Enochians who show up late in the Harvester series.

And if you haven’t read Harvesters, this series stands completely on its own.

The first-person narrator can be annoyingly self-centered sometimes, disobeying orders repeatedly, and falling prey to the typical male/teen inability to express his feelings, to his detriment (but hey, he *is* only 17, after all, with a whole lot of pressure resting on his shoulders, not to mention enough trauma to cause several lifetimes worth of PTSD!)

The book also has a handful of typos, but I have yet to read a self-published (or even traditionally published) book that doesn’t. A minor complaint.

If you like fantasy with sarcastic heroes, heavy on bloody military battles with aliens, threaded through with plot twists, intrigue, some romance and sexual tension, you’ll probably enjoy this series.

An excellent storyteller

A writer that keeps the story flowing, without following a well-worn predictable path. Keeps me interested enough that I put off other work in order to read the story he had provided.

So good. Haldin's emotional arc is fantastic, even when it makes you want to slap him for being so full of himself. Or especially then. As always, lots of adventure and explosions.

Haldin was pretty annoying this book, but the plot line & other characters carried me through to the end and into the next book in the series.
