Diaper Dan is the story of a 20 year old draftee from California and his adventures in Vietnam. Ken Frederic is a gifted storyteller who navigated through many complex situations as he served his country and fulfilled his duty. Diaper Dan is a real story about me and the people and events that came along during my time. The only research that has been done is to search my own memory. These are the events as I remember them. Some of the names have been changed or substituted for lack of memory. If you see yourself in any of these pages… Congratulations on being alive and I wish you well.
This book is a spot on vision into the experience of an every day American young man that was drafted into war and answered the call with great conviction. Proud, and patriotic he served through some seriously hard duty. Now he enjoys life in the country that he gave so much for. There are always different points of view, but this country is the best place on earth. I believe that and obviously he does too. Watching grandchildren grow up in a country you have served gives you a feeling of pride that is not understood by those who enjoy the fruit without joining in the labor.
Thank You!! My cousin and I both joined the service in 69. Him in the Army, me the Navy. We lost him on Mothers Day 1971. When he did not phone home on Mother's Day it was just an awful time waiting for news. AS it turned out he was in some kind of accident in Da Nang and died. Your book gave me a look at what he was probably doing in his day to day life. I do appreciate that. Thanks.
Well written historical First person narrative of a year in action, Vietnam. The draft brings the citizen soldier to the fight. Often times he exceeds an enlisted soldier. John Q Public arises to the challenge more often than not and proves himself above and beyond all others. Hard to explain, why.
