She’s back, and she’s not alone.

It's been three months since Mieshka “Meese” Renaud exploded her Fire Element into the sky and burned the capital's shield back into life, and her Element has finally returned. Winter break has been filled with firearms lessons, hand-to-hand training, and clandestine tours through the tunnels of Ryarne's secret underground city.

But time is running out. With the war pressing ever closer to her doorstep, Mieshka has other worries—especially when the city's most powerful Mage starts gunning for her blood.

Firebird is the second novel in The Elemental Wars, and was previously published as The Mieshka Files. If you like hard-hitting modern fantasy, elemental magic, and complex, well-built worlds, you'll love this series.

**Warning: contains violence and foul language.

Another excellent adventure. Mieshka just recently learned about magic and suddenly she's immersed in it. Turns out she is a Fire Element. This is the second book in the series and you'll miss a lot of backstory if you try and start here. Start with book one (Into the Fire) and continue. Meese burned out her fire power defending the city and we return to her three months later where she has been studying firearms, combat and learning the streets of the underground. Her powers have finally returned, war is getting closer and now a powerful mage is after her. No quiet life for her. This is an exciting story with lots of details. This author has become one of my favorites because of the difference of her stories and characters. She write very capable people who are totally out of their element and still manage to move forward. Can't wait for the next book (she promises "soon"). Very highly recommended.

Kind of Boring and Lacks Scale - but I’m hooked?

The most fundamental issue - if runaway, pre-exposed Manaii (spelling) in a world full of Mages could not be defeated such that the world crumbled and essentially died, how can even a little of it in an underground world now surrounded by a dome powered by magic be contained through the action of one Mage - and the story of how it was accomplished not even make the page and be reading material? I don’t think I’ve ever read a story and not really known how it came to its conclusion. Call me stupid, I suppose.

That, and the story is no longer about the woman on the cover of the book. In fact, every woman is depicted in a way that somehow makes them in some way second to a man. If I was not so curious, I would not continue this series. If I’m still bored at the end of Sylphide (spelling), I won’t continue this series.

I loved it!

This author is kinda awesome and so is this series! It's a bit of alien, post apocalyptic war, with magic and elemental flair that blends into an epic atory. The main character is very lucky or unlucky depending on how you look at it (lol) and danger and mayhem seem to follow her.. She's awesome and the supporting characters are too with all their quirks, you just can't help but love them.

This is book number two in the series, it follows right after book one closely after. This is a series you have to sart with the first book in the series before you read this one or you will be lost. I loved this story very much and can not wait to see what happens next.
This is my honest and unbias opinion of the story.

Another splendid adventure!

K Gorman has done it again Meese and her friends are the few points of sanity in an increasingly corrupt world. Lots of magic, signs of the end of this world, and plot twists in every chapter.

Do not open this book if you have chores to do. They will not get done. :)

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Although the story is long there were a lot of things going on to keep you turning the pages. Mage's and Elemental's, Wars and surrenders. Sane and crazy Mage's and Elemental's, plots and sub-plots. Lots of action and a good storyline keep you involved and invested til the final page.

The interaction between the characters is very believable. The setting of the book is very intriguing as well as an unique concept.

Again I will state that the story was well written, but the foul language is completely unnecessary to the story line and would not be missed if left out. There are lots of ways to express the frustration or anger without using four letter words.

Yup, this book ensnared me, just like the previous book in the series did. The story is quick paced and you have to find out where the tale leads!
