The apocalypse is here. Nightmarish creatures haunt every corner of the globe. They are the result of a biological agent that subverts human biology, turning people into monstrosities covered by overgrown bones and fueled by an unquenchable hunger.
And that is just the beginning. A fanatical organization led by a rogue Russian biowarfare expert continues to expand their arsenal of biological weapons. Each design is more diabolical than the last. Now the group plans to launch a new airborne agent that will destroy every last pocket of humanity eking out an existence in this horror-filled world.
Captain Dominic Holland and his team of elite covert mercenaries are assigned to stop the launch of this terrifying new weapon. In a desperate race against time, they must navigate the treacherous waters and cities around Europe to save humanity.
Book 1: The Tide Book 2: The Tide: Breakwater Book 3: The Tide: Salvage Book 4: The Tide: Deadrise Book 5: The Tide: Iron Wind Book 6: The Tide: Dead Ashore Book 7: The Tide: Ghost Fleet Book 8: The Tide: Devil to Pay
Anthony J Melchiorri is a scientist with a PhD in bioengineering. Originally from the Midwest, he now lives in Texas. By day, he develops cellular therapies and 3D-printable artificial organs. By night, he writes apocalyptic, medical, and science-fiction thrillers that blend real-world research with other-worldly possibility. When he isn't in the lab or at the keyboard, he spends his time running, reading, hiking, and traveling in search of new story ideas.
I can sum this book up in four words, "SAME POOP DIFFERENT BOOK". ONCE again we have the hunters, the skulls, the goliath and titans. SAME worn story line but looking for a new agent. Have you ever seen the movie Groundhog Day? Well that's what this series has turned into, all we need is to have Bill Murray as a Hybrid, after all he was a great Zombie in Zombieland! While once again the writing was great, it's the same story over and over. The difference between good writers and truly excellent writers is the ability to provide readers with closure. After 8 volumes in this series you would expect closure, whether it's the saving of humanity or the implosion of Earth, once and for all finish and move on! Will I read the next book in the series? At this point I don't know but leaning towards a big fat no. There are plenty of other authors who can tell a great story and finish it within a few hundred pages!
It's time for our worn-out heroes to do what they do best again. This one has new monsters for them to overcome, comrades getting captured, allies injured to the point of dying, and new and interesting features discovered about their ever present enemies. The heroes are almost pushed to their breaking points with nothing but pure stubbornness to hold onto. If you've read this far, you have to continue to see if they survive.
Good, solid 4-star book. Started off a bit slow (if your CO thinks a mission isn't necessary or doesn't work out at the end, that's a bad sign) but built to the usual crescendo of death, destruction and mayhem. And the best part for me was that Melchiorri used the 2nd half of the book to really let new ideas and new situations shine and wrapped it all up with some top-notch cliff-hangers!
Yeah, I admit it : the first 1/3 or so of this book was for me "same old same old". Yay, we're on a Greek island, yippee! Lots of Skulls and their ilk died, our Hunters escaped overwhelming odds with barely a sprained ankle and we all got to meet back in time for coffee on the Huntress. It was about this time that I really got the feeling that I was looking for this series to wrap up - in a good way but still - and I kind of got the feeling the author is ready, too. But hey: reading 9 books by the same dude in barely 2 1/2 weeks is not a bad testament all things considered! Maybe once I close out this last one I can start sleeping again at a decent hour!
Luckily for us readers, AJM really used the alternating story-lines to their fullest in this chapter, switching locales and main players with great skill and aplomb. And I would add he did it with no loss of pacing at all, even when we were in the German labs or the zombie-standard abandoned hospital. Oh and for all of you who like me were clamoring for this, we finally got to see O'Neil flex his powers - and not just in a Wolverine-esque hack-a-thon but with some real risk and strategy involved (think not only stabbing a Sentinel but managing to control it for your own use, X-Men fans)! The situation in Germany was tightened up plot-wise (though the almost instant takeover was again a bit ludicrous, see prev. references to French nuclear sites) and it was also a real treat to see some of our secondary players take a key role in their missions in Texass (sic). Some of those bits are going to be exciting to see play out and discover how all of this interconnects! No pressure though, right?
All-in-all, you just can't go wrong with these books. If you've read this far, you know the kind of adrenaline soaked, edge of your seat, scream until you're hoarse action you're in for and you're going to continue until the last bullet has been used. So let's hike up our PET-coated pantaloons and see how this marvelous and truly top-notch adventure concludes! Can't wait!
I think Dr. Melchiorri knows how to 'ramp up' the obstacles.
Reader insight: If you haven't been keeping up with this Post-Apocalyptic series then you are missing out. If you haven't already, start with The Tide and work your way up to this one. Maybe by then, the ninth book will be ready. However, if you are sensitive to violence, as well as, adult language and situations then perhaps this is not the series for you.
Dominic Holland, his crew, his family, and many others are doing all they know how to do to keep the world safe. Unfortunately, there is an organization that enjoys the chaos and havoc that's been wreaked and wants to spread more around.
Dr. Melchiorri knows a lot about science and medicine; he isn't afraid to use his knowledge to lend an air of authenticity to his books. He also isn't afraid of interspersing those daunting what-if scenarios like an advanced chess player runs the board.
Disclaimer: I opted to read an advanced reader's copy of this book. Above is my honest thoughts and opinions.
Anthony just keeps knocking them out of the park with his writing style. Descriptive, aggressive, entertaining, and imaginative, Anthony kept me glued to the pages wondering what was going to happen to Dom and his crew on the next page so much that it almost hurt to put my phone away. I can’t wait to see how he closes out this series. Then again...I don’t know what I will do when I finish?!?
Dom and his Hunters have a new mission - to find the FGL's airborne bioweapon and secure it before it can be unleashed. Meanwhile, two other members of his crew remain in Germany, working toward cures and bioweapons to use against the Skulls. This was a fabulous book that ends with yet more cliffhangers to set the scene for book 9.
I receive a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
The tide has perhaps turned in favour of the allies, but that is a big PERHAPS ! The team remains in the middle of the action as they, and what is left of the worlds survivors continue to battle for their very survival.... a real spellbinder !
This time Melchiorri work with 2 parallel stories, better created and without taking the point from "The Hunters". Captain Dom and The Hunters again works to discover how to save the falling world. New twists and action.
Kara, Navid and Dr. Lauren are also working with the new odds. Keep reading this series is worth it!
The story was exciting, full of plot twists. O'Neil learns to be part of the Hunters and is a hero. Dom's team goes from one mission to the next trying to save the world. Great addition to the series!
The Tide is a 5 Star's series that I have been reading from the start. As with them all I've not been disappointed. Thank you Anthony J Melchiorri. A satisfied fan!
Many times the deeper into a series you get, the weaker the storyline becomes. Not here. Each turn of the page brings new excitement and intrigue. The storyline continues to ramp up with new c challenges that continue to plague Dom and the Hunters
Yet another enjoyable read and another nail-biting page-turner befitting of this series. My rating of five stars is not just for this particular book, but also for the entire series. Given the cliff-hanging ending I am already looking forward to book 9.
Book 8 was a fun read and had errors throughout. The plot and characters have grown, but are also predictable in some ways. I enjoyed the book nevertheless and look forward to book 9.
Wonderful, though the author is evil. Making me fall in love with a series, all those characters, the constant increase in stakes, and I'm forcing myself to take a break before I read the next one.
From the beginning this series was entertaining and fast paced now that I am on book 8 it is the same danger at every corner and what will the hunters do now this book was a cliffhanger I need book 9 now
These books keep you"hooked" with each new development from the Oni Agent. The different creatures that are revealed show you how unique each human is in terms of their makeup. I can't wait to start Book 9!
For me this may be the most thrilling book in a series so far... The hunters just cant get their hard earned brake from the skulls... Now back to counting days to the next book... Damn...
I have to say that the amount of twists in this book have left my mind feeling like a pretzel. This goes to the next level, heart stopping, stunning. The Hunters are truly epic.
What a ride! I think this is the best story so far...and that's saying a lot as The Tide series is fantastic. I love what the author has done with Lt. O'Neil's character. Please keep them coming:)
As usual very good. Highly recommended to anyone who likes a good post apocalyptic zombie type story, but start with book 1. Looking forward to book 9.
Good book - just like the others in the series. But it would be nice to actually have a resolution to the series. Each book plods slowly towards a resolution. I don't think I will continue.
