Mirror, mirror on the wall. Why is my reflection most terrifying of all? Wren Miller has tried everything in her power to stay away from the place she and her sister were forced to grow up. Living with her eccentric aunt after her parents were killed holds memories that are unshakable. Her aunt wasn’t well. She was known as the town’s loon. Wren got out the second she could, leaving her sister behind to take care of the odd woman who had raised them. But years later, the call came. One Wren dreaded. The death of her aunt meant a return visit to a place she wants to forget. Wren arrives to find the house still drafty and creaky. The town still small and gossipy. Only this time it isn’t her aunt they’re talking about. It’s her sister. She claims something sinister is lurking in the shadows. Wren fears she is becoming like their aunt. But then Wren starts to see things too. Flashes. Glimpses. Images that chill her to the bone. Can she stop the evil before it’s too late?

A book with an interesting premise that just missed its mark. Doppelgänger plot lines are incredibly spooky to me. I liked the premise of Wren going back home after her aunt dies to check on her sister's well-being and to help close the house and maybe bring her sister back to live with her. It's only when she returns that she remembers the events that caused her to escape in the middle of the night.

This started out with a dark atmosphere but soon was filled with unnecessary scenes that didn't add to the overall plot. The ending was a bit too predictable, and the twist felt random rather than explained by previous parts of the story. Of course, it ended fairly abruptly and there were some questions remaining. It was just okay for me. I liked the first installment, Chosen, in this standalone series much better.
