Get drawn into the shadows of the heart. As a medical student, Mabel Blackwood knows all the anatomical features of the human heart, yet she’s never felt its racing pace conjured by the meeting of a single glance until she encountered Henry Grier. Born amongst the dregs of society, Henry entertains at his one of the most prestigious bordellos on Carlyle Street. Will his unconventional past push away scholarly Mabel or will Henry’s free soul transform her into something much more?
As a self-proclaimed bibliophile and research geek, it's no wonder Jennie L. Morris writes romance and historical fiction with a flair for realism. Her love for learning led her to obtain degrees in Anthropology and Biology, which she often relies upon during writing. Coming from NE Ohio and raised on a small beef cattle farm, life was anything but ordinary growing up.
Jennie now resides in rural Kentucky, among the bluegrass and dazzling horse farms, with her amazing southern gentleman of a husband and their spoiled boxer pup Archie (Archibald Nubbintgon III). When she isn’t reading or writing, she feeds her tea obsession or perfume addiction, letting the scents and flavors fuel her creative fires.
Jennie L. Morris’s book Drawn in Shadows had me hooked from the start. It’s the third book in The Albion series. One of my favorite things about this series is that every book is a stand alone story all based in the same place in the late 1800’s. Drawn in Shadows follows the story of Mabel Blackwood, a sheltered woman in medical school, who at her uncles request travels across town to a world very different from own. Along the way she befriends people she would have never encountered. After meeting Henry, one of the workers at La Madison Bleue, for the first time in her life she has to decide to follow her heart, or her head.
Jennie L Morris did a wonderful job with the details of the book. I felt like I am standing alongside Mabel on Carlyle Street. Her description of several medical procedures performed in the story caught my interest and had me hooked. I can’t wait to see what new stories Jennie L Morris comes up with next.
