She wasn't even the one who wanted to go out and get laid!
So, what happens when you vow to be the best wingwoman you can be, but you run into your bosses while you're out looking for...uh, a good time? Well, if you're Avery Ellis, you drunkenly blurt out how you and your friends are out looking to make your sexual fantasies come true. Probably not the best career move, but there's no going back. Especially when one of those said bosses offers his services in the interest of safety first!
There were so many reasons why Avery Ellis was off limits, but Nicholas Savage wasn't open to listening to any of them. Especially when he learned everything that was on her drunken, little mind! Now, he can't get her off his mind and he'll do anything to have her. Even if it might grant him a court date for workplace sexual harassment.
With the misguided help from their friends, Nicholas and Avery's...uh, courtship is a rollercoaster of fake weddings, kidnapping, West Coast gangsta rapping and a sexual fantasy involving peanut butter and glitter.
There's not much to add to my bio, I'm pretty boring...LOL. My favorite thing is to read and, last year, I decided to trade in some of those reading hours and try my hand at writing. The experience has been one of the best things I could have ever embarked upon. It's turned into a hobby that is fun and thoroughly enjoyable. When I'm not reading or writing, I'm spending time with my family or friends.
Usually i love alpha males, possessive and insta stories but i had struggles reading this one. I felt like the hero was kinda sexist in some sentences , and i didn't like Avery character at all, ok standing up for yourself but in that cases made her sound ...kind of a H*e, i'm not saying that a girl can't dream, heck i have some fantasies too but tell them openly in front of all of them? rubbed me the bad way :/ you can express them but not in that moment when you just meet them (this is my opinion) Also it's cool to have your bff being involved with your bf best friends but doing it insta with them too in the same time ..? you lose focus with the main couple...and they had their separate books anyway so what is the point? it would be way better if she used the extra pages to make it more romantic and she could put hints about what the rest may be having....but here they are all insta everything at the same time with her 2 best friends too... insta and caveman on them from the second they saw them, nothing bad about it but at least make some kind of connection .. And all the comments Q and Avery made of Julian made me roll my eyes, it annoyed me because i wanted Avery being focused on Nick, being like that for him not for his friend which is clearly focused getting to their other friend... so yeah i DNF it at 60% cuz was to much.. i expected more from it .
Smashwords freebies are always a gamble but this was really disappointing. Nick was awful. It wasn't his dodgey past or his incessant need to use the f word as both a noun and an adverb. It was the way he spoke to and about women. When an old hook up (who apparently hooked up with all three guys in the series when they were younger) shows up, he calls her b*tch and slut like it her first name. When he tried to shame Avery for having the nerve to have an ex boyfriend... "when you were spreading your legs for Eric", I just gave up. He was gross and she could do better. Honestly, Julian sounded worse so I am done with this series.
3.5 Stars! After finishing the Buchanan Brothers series, I was pleasantly surprised to find the Seven Deadly Sins by M.E. Clayton. I was hoping to find an entertaining read similar to the brothers, and Catching Avery was pretty close.
Summary: Avery Ellis has given up her night of laziness and vowed to be the best wingwoman she can be. And what does she get for her trouble? A humiliating run-in with your bosses while you're out looking for a good time. To make matters worse, Avery, in all her drunken glory, just so happens to blurt out how her and her besties are looking to fulfill at least one of their sexual fantasies. Oopsie! Probably not the kind of information you should give the owners of the company you work for. It’s also probably not good when one of those bosses offers up his services. Right? Logically, Nicholas Savage knows there are multiple reasons Avery is off limits, the biggest being she’s one of his employees. That fact doesn’t seem to sway his mind or his body, though. Especially when he learns just what’s swirling around in her crazy little head. All he knows is this beautiful woman won’t stop running through his head, and he’s ready to risk a lawsuit to have her. But will one night be enough?
For the most part, I enjoyed Nick and Avery’s story. There were a few elements that weren’t my favorite, though. Avery was hilarious. She had me giggling almost from the very first word. I loved her obviously close relationship with Quinn and Izzy, and she just seemed like a cool chick all around. Her trust issues were understandable after learning of the betrayal she felt from someone she should have been able to trust, not to mention her own dating history. I just wish she had confronted her parents sooner and not kept it bottled in so long. I also wish we had gotten a better conclusion. I found myself invested in the outcome of that little side story, but left without a resolution. Nick was a pretty good hero. His pride and stubbornness got in the way a few times, but that didn’t take away from his thrilling alpha male tendencies. My heart broke for the broken boy he was, and that he chose to just ignore his past instead of acknowledging it and moving on. As a couple, Nick and Avery were pretty hot and sweet. I loved how they met and the fake marriage. It was cute and funny. They also had quite a few steamy scenes that were hot flash inducing. I loved that Nick was not only willing, but perfect for fulfilling Avery’s deepest fantasy. That said, some of what surrounded the fantasy was a bit off kilter with my personal way of thinking. Given this is fiction, I know that an author can do whatever he/she wants, but I just had a bit of a hiccup with some of what was said. Otherwise, I adored Nick and Avery together and absolutely swooned with him calling her Imp. In the end, Nick and Avery’s story was entertaining. It was a relatively quick read, but also seemed a bit more detailed than previous books I’ve read by this author. I loved the humor and close-knit friendships, and I’m looking forward to the other couple’s books. ♡
This is the second book from this author I have read and I loved the first one and this one was no different can't wait to read all the rest of her books 💖
Wow. This book is incredibly juvenile. I’m at 49% and I just couldn’t wait until I finished it to give this review. These characters are anywhere from mid twenties to mid thirties and I think that’s generous based on the behavior alone. They are all in some financial corporate positions and yet a group of more childish characters that weren’t teenagers I’ve never read.
And this book’s couples first s e x scene was worse then 70’s porn. It was tacky, gross and not appealing at all. I doubt my opinion will change by the time I finish this. If it magically does I will update this post.
Lastly, this author never writes comprehensible adults. With the exception of a couple of the Buchanan books (not all) nearly all her adult aged character’s books are all nuts! This is by far the worst. Her teenagers make sense with this behavior so I love those books. But if it’s a past college aged adult then prepare to read garbage. Good luck.
Update: I finished the story and while the s e x got rougher and in my opinion just right(!), the maturity level of these adults did not. This author doesn’t address any of the situations in this book in a healthy way. Getting “white girl wasted” past the age of 25 for every single emotional moment is NOT attractive, appealing, or acceptable to anyone. Whether it be fiction or real life, it’s simply not interesting to me. Just no.
I honestly don’t know if I can read the rest of the books in this series I was so turned off by this book. The banter this author placed in the dialogue was nearly all forced. Like the author was recycling real life conversations or things she had heard that came off as forced. It was too much and too all over the place. I think my eyes have whiplash from rolling them so much trying to finish this horrendous story. I even have a headache. Ugh.
Look, I LOVE this author’s style and the intensity of her characters between their love interests but she needs to do better is all I’m saying. She’s totally capable of a more quality story. I guess I have to go reread another one of her teenage romances. After all, immaturity makes sense with those stories. Smdh.
JP OTT alpha male/ hotness/ boss-employee/ aggressive
ME CLAYTON is literally my go to for OTT JP alpha men. Her men take their women and are so aggressive and possesive I’m just like YESSSSS OWN ME! Seriously I haven’t found another author that gives me EXActly the love and dedication mixed with aggressive psycho I need!! Lol 😆
What an odd book. None of the people in it are remotely realistic. Lots of build up and bones which could be used for something good so two stars for that. But the story is mad and the characters are so unrealistic that I skipped most of the pages when I was about a third in. Silly but at least it made me smile a few times
You ever read a book and just can't put it down until you finish? Like you don't care you have to get up at 5:30 in the morning and its pushing 2 am already. If your like me and love to get so totally lost in a book that you are unaware of anything else in your orbit then this is a good book lose yourself in. I was a little skeptical at first when reading about the authors plea to please understand this book is not published by a big time publishing house so there might be some errors along the way. To the contrary, I think she could have totally not said any of that because if there were errors I was so engrossed I didn't even notice.
Where the hell did you come from Mrs. Clayton? and why am I just now stumbling across your series? I knew when I read your explanation about not putting out a series until you could publish all the books together we were going to be just fine. I too have a slight issue with books and cliffhangers. Slight as in I would rather not because it is just going to irritate me to no end.
This book is ridiculously hot and stupidly funny. Avery is a ball of fire and Nicholas is.... well Nicholas is just all sex and possessive. Those two go into this whole "situationship" so that Nicholas can satisfy and fulfill all of Avery's deviant fantasies. Of course I should probably mention that Nicholas owns the place Avery is working at and they all knew this was a bad idea to begin with. Well of course, things go wrong from the beginning and soon you have curveballs being thrown everywhere. From the outstanding supporting characters (a.k.a. The Best Friends), charismatic exes, secret childhoods, misinterpretations and misunderstandings it seems as everything that can be thrown at these two is. I honestly was left second guessing myself all the way through the book as to if they would even end up together. Also even if they ended up together there is a fine line between obsession and love. If you like filthy sex followed by all the sweet stuff this is the book for you, but make no mistake if you read this first book there is no way in hell you aren't going to read the rest of the Seven Deadly Sins Series. It is phenomenal and so well written.
I read somewhere north of 500 books last year and very few of them were repeats or downloads that stay parked on my kindle. This is one of them. Buy it, borrow it, steal it. I promise you wont regret it.
P.S. Just a little trigger warning-- This book does contain mentions of horrible childhood experiences and a brutal attack. It also is NOT child friendly... I repeat this book is NOT child friendly.
Overall: 5/5 Awesome! This book surprised me. I read daily. Few books have I been unable to put down and this was one of them. Was it the story line? Not really. It's a common workplace troupe; sleeping with the boss, yada yads. But, hands down, the best one I've read.
If I had to pin one thing down on why I liked it so much, I guess I'd have to say it's the characters. All of them were great, (except, you know, the ex's).
I couldn't wait to get to the ending because, well... I knew they'd end up together, duh, but I could hardly wait for that to happen.
Then the ending angst... yea baby.
Story Line: 5/5 Work place, boss romance. Writing Style: 5/5 I'm giving M. E. Clayton a perfect score because she is doing all this on her own. Writing, Editing, Reviewing, Publishing. Kudos to her. Are there a few mistakes in this book. Yep. Were a few words misspelled, like 2 or 3 maybe. But, Lordy, Lordy, she works and writes? Yea... Good for you, M. E. Clayton.
Characters: Their banter was so freaking funny. MMC: 5/5 Nicholas, the alpha boss was relatable, kind and a good guy. Just because a man is alpha doesn't mean he needs to be a jerk about it. FMC: 5/5 Avery is a great character. Simple and real.
Supporting Characters: 5/5 100% Awesome (except, you know, as stated above, the ex's).
Heat: 5/5 Yep. Lots of lovin' going on. It gives you all the feels.
Okay - so is it steamy? Yeah. Does Nick come off as wildly sexist? Also, yeah.
There's a disclaimer at the front of the book that the writer does her own editing and therefore, to expect some typos. So I was able to look past most of them, like the wrong tense in a sentence, but when you use "can" instead of "can't" it actually just changes the scene...
I didn't know this was part of a series, so I understand why Quinn and Isabella's story lines aren't really gone into in detail - but without the whole context of their situation, it leaves me to actually really dislike Quinn before I start "her" book.
Likeness of characters: Avery 3/5 Nick 2.5/5 ...maybe they are evenly matched.
When Avery joins her friends, Quinn and Isabella for a drink -fuelled night at a new club, their hope is to each find a man who will fulfil a one night fantasy. Nick joins his friends, Chase and Julian because Chase wants a one night stand. Each trio is attracted to the other, but for two of them there is an issue: the man are their bosses. It's a good read where trust and poor communication threatens to derail the burgeoning relationship. Some steamy scenes and a great deal of frustration as new ways are negotiated.
I really enjoyed this book, the story and characters were very funny and the girls were crazy quirky…the writing is really good but it only gets 4 stars because it makes me laugh that in the books and life in general I suppose.. everyone goes on about having to wear condoms in case of STD’s pregnancy etc yet they go down south on each other…..Willie Millie…LOL. Kind of sad actually…but do read it, it’s fun….
This is the first book I've read from the author and I really enjoyed it. It was funny and I really loved the relationships between the girls and the guys. The love and loyalty of the family we choose is always an inspiration.
I'm going to check out some of her other works too.
This author has been recommended to me several times because I love romances with possesive guys and strong women. This exceeded my wildest expectations. Nicholas and Avery are combustible. Looking forward to the remaining books in this series and exploring the rest of this author's books.
This book Is absolute perfection. I love the way the author writes, the characters are all very well developed. The drama is on point with some twists. The spice is 🔥🔥 I will definitely be continuing this series to find out what happens with the other couples and checking out this authors other books!!
Loved it. The relationship between the three girls was beautiful and so funny. The relationship between the men was honest and open. It was refreshing to read a POV for a male character where although he went full alpha he acknowledged his flaws and emotions. At times, I laughed out loud until I cried. Thoroughly recommended
Catching Avery is an immersive page turner of a book! it's a slow start which makes perfect context (read to find out), but the plot doesn't just twist, it keeps you on your toes.you never know what will happen next. 10/10 read, the seven deadly sins have done their damage and i loved this book because of it!
Whoa! This book was so good! If you love Alpha males this is the book for you! Avery & Nicholas have some crazy ridiculous chemistry and the sex is smoking hot!! Can’t wait to read about Chase & Julian
M. E. Clayton book are just downright addictive. I started with the Buchanan brothers and now I'm hooked on the 7 deadly sins series. Nicholas is too sexy makes a girl wanna swoon. And I totally enjoyed Avery
Nicholas- Alpha male multiplied by 200 Avery- Perfect match for the multiplied Alpha. I completed this book in one day. That's how awesome it was. All the characters were amazing. It was hilarious, sexy and addicting. This is a must read
I love M.E books but this one I didn’t care for to much. About 95% in the book to getting close to an happy ending. It shouldn’t have taken that long if they acted mature adults. I guess I just don’t have time for games.
DO NOT let the awful cover or title scare you. This book was an absolute delight!!! 😍 and the banter was quick and fun, sort of like another queen Clayton (Alices’) wallbanger. I Really enjoyed this! Thank you!
An attraction, sexual fantasy, blurred lines of business n personal, missed up parent situations just a few things that can miss with this couples connection. The chapter subject heading were fun
NICHOLAS and AVERY First, let me start of by saying, three best friends falling for another set of three best friends, is just the most perfect set up for romance and all the craziness of friendship and brotherhood… and I’m loving it!
First off, I loved how the chapters were defined by one individual sin; and believe me… all the sins are covered! It just added that much debauchery and sass with each interaction between the couple, but also between the friends, to make this book interesting.
“Lust clouds the best of judgments. But to be fair, can you name one thing...just one thing...that feels better than sex? The feel of a man's hands on your body, the goose bumps you get when his lips touch your skin, the heat you feel when you know he's turned on by you, the power you feel because you know there is nothing he won't do to satisfy you, that first thrust inside you and let's not leave out the aria of the entire sexual opera...when he makes you cum. What feels better than that?” I mean COME ON!
Avery, Quinn, and Isabella. What a crazy trio! I want to be a part of them. Each of them is a firehouse, just perfectly molded by God to bring Nicholas, Chase, and Julian to their knees, and they do, but not before a lot of drama, a lot of sex and in the case of this book, a whole lot of office gossip, romance, and the thrill of the taboo.
Nicholas is attracted to Avery the minute he sees her at the club. Despite knowing she works for him and this situation could implode if it went sideways, he cannot help but approach her, and believe me the guys spent a whole lot of time trying to convince them elves otherwise, and kind of ambush her drunken self with… well him. And they are not above kidnapping if required.
Avery and her friends came there looking for a fling to fulfil one sexual fantasy, but she never expected to catch the eyes of her boss, a walking talking lust fueled sin, to fulfil her peanut-butter-less life… (LOL. IYKYK)
“And as you so graciously pointed out, we are off the clock. That means your authority over me ended hours ago, Mr. Savage.” “You think so, Ms. Ellis?” Look, I get that the universe quakes, quivers, and bow downs at your command, but you’re jacking me up here. Say what you mean and mean what you say, because I don’t have the time for games. Drunk or sober.”
And in her drunken stupor, she sasses him, drives him crazy, defies him, and blurts out her sexual fantasy! Oh my! And Nicholas finds her the perfect weird and quirky combination that sets him on fire! It doesn’t help that his personality and her fantasy align. Submitting and taking control without the bondage and titles. Talk about HOT! So HOT!
“I want him to take from me. I want to know I am at his mercy. I want to wake up with his bruises and bite marks all over my goddamn body. I want the perfect mixture of being afraid of him, but having complete trust in him to not cross the line beyond my fantasy. I want to be owned.” And Nicholas does.
He single-mindedly sets a sexual haze and trap so thick that Avery cannot help but surrender, in the office or outside of it, ambushing her at the least likely places, even hinting at their relationship in front of co-workers. They really set the pages ablaze, despite the constant interruptions in the beginning! Not to mention the crazy ex who has been kind of hounding her.
Some of the best parts of the book is the friendship the girls share. Their conversations, their pushing each other out of comfort zones or reigning each other in, calling names, dropping everything to be there for each other not matter what the circumstance maybe, is beautiful to read. They are the definition of hate one hate all, and there are definitely some moments.
Avery cannot help but fall, despite reminding herself that it’s bound to fail and he will never love her back, and their entre relationship is an act, a fantasy. And in general, due to her past relationship and her parents’ marriage, she is somewhat skeptical about men and their intentions.
Nicholas has a terrible upbringing and past. It makes him deny, fight, and hurt Avery. And some of the things he says are downright atrocious and completely unacceptable. I wish there was more grovel!... which further fuels her mind towards the belief that he may not love her.
Every man has his kryptonite and I had just discovered mine. Her tears. I’m pretty sure her tears will forever bring me to my knees.
But when Nicholas finally gets his mind of out his past, he lets her in all the way, giving her all his vulnerabilities, his hurt and finally his love too, and of course all of his dominance.
“Avery, I know this thing between us may seem whirlwind to you, but I’m not a whirlwind kind of man. What I feel for you consumes every edge of my soul. I love you and I’m going to love you with my last dying breath.”
PS: I must say, Julian and Isabella sort of intrigue me the most. I cannot wait to read their story.
