The beautiful seaside town of Garber is buzzing with visitors. It is hosting a triathlon and Dune House, the majestic bed and breakfast on the beach, is at full capacity with competitors, coaches and race officials. Suzie and Mary are rushed off their feet, but are excited to be hosting their guests. But then…. Suzie and Mary find themselves right in the middle of a murder investigation when someone lands up dead and the prime suspect is staying at Dune House. They decide to do a little sleuthing of their own and help the investigation along. But when Detective Wes starts acting very suspiciously they find that they have not one mystery to solve, but two. Will Suzie and Mary find the culprit before all the suspects run away? Just what is Wes hiding?
I like the characters in this book Suzie and Mary. Plus the side characters all men Paul, Wes and Jason who round out the regular characters in this series. This book was had an underlying theme of trust in it and did the two relationships have trust. That along with a murder, athletes and so much more. I find this series very nice though sometimes I feel like it moves a little to slowly.
Great book. I am really enjoying this whole series. Thank you Cindy Bell. The mysteries are Amazing and the people are Fantastic. Now on to the next story.
Suzie & Mary, who been friends for many years, bought an old house & it fixed up. Now called Dune House B & B, at the beach, in he town of Garber.
They are so excited because of a Seaside Relay Triathlon Race, which meant more guests at their B & B. After receiving requests for rooms, all of their rooms were were booked.
Some of the teams rode their bikes, getting ready for the big race. Two men collided under a small bridge that people could walk to from Garber to Parish. One man broke his arm as his teammate, Michael crashed to his bike.
The head of their team, Stuart was very upset because their team would not be able be in the race. He was known for making people to feel he was a mean man.
Well Stuart was was found dead by the sea, wrapped in Dune House sheet. Now Jason has to investigate this case. A little while later a Detective on the Parish PD gets involved. His name is Wes who is a very dear friend of Mary.
Suzie & Mary decided to investigate this case also. Suzie dates a fisherman Paul, who she asked him to help them with their investigation.
There are to many characters to list. I can tell you there maybe more danger & many suspects.
If you really enjoy Cozy Mysteries you need to read this book!
This is the 14th book in this Cozy Mysteries. I hope you will enjoy this book as much as I did!
This is another great book in Cindy Bell's Dune House Cozy Mystery series. Alana Deleon, a race organizer for races, has chosen Gerber as the location for the next race. During a practice run, Simon is knocked off his bicycle by Michael, a racer on a local team from Parish. Stuart Pike, a member of Simon's team, feels Michael injured Simon on purpose. Tempers flare and everyone chooses sides. To make matters worse, Stuart, is found dead down by the docks near the Dune House. Suzie and Mary jump in to help the local police find his killer. Could it be Michael, Lydia Pike (Stuart's mother), Charles, Hal (a local gambler) or someone from another team? There are many twists and turns. Cindy keeps you guessing until the end. Another great Dune House story! I received an advance copy for an honest review.
I'm feeling conflicted on this one really more like 2 and 1/2 stars. The stories were getting so much better and these last 2 have just been really frustrating. Suzie and Mary are being a bit too reckless and involving themselves a little too much in the police investigation part. I also have trouble with mary constantly doubting Wes. Yes I know she's dealing with past emotional trauma from her ex but she either trusts Wes or not. She needs some counseling to help her deal with things. I also feel like the stories are sliding backwards a bit too, the predictability is back a bit but beyond that the characters just have the emotional range of a golf ball. It's like a bunch of 2 year old throwing tantrums because they don't get their way. It's not nearly as good as the last few books before this grouping. Moderately disappointed and not enjoying these anymore.
The Dune House series takes place in a truly picturesque setting by the ocean and is a favorite of mine. The two protagonists, Mary and Suzie, are women who run a B&B together. They have an enviable and loyal friendship that has seen them through some trying and scary times. I enjoyed the topic as well as Suzie and Mary jumping in head first to "help" the police solve the mystery of the goings-on in town. I also loved that the men who love them were right there for the ride. If you enjoy cozy mysteries, I wouldn't hesitate to read this wonderful series with great characters and even better mysteries. This is another winner for Ms. Bell.
10 stars !!!! Suzie and Mary have a full house for the weekend, with bike racer athletes and coaches, other people involved. The race competition is fierce, especially when it is your life's work. Some people are over the top with obsession, to the point people start getting hurt. With illegal betting, blackmail, and murder, with some attempted murder. And of course, Suzie appoints herself to be an investigator with Mary her side kick, where they end up in quite a very dangerous situation, that Mary's boyfriend gets them out of, with Jason and Paul not far behind. You will love this book, I didn't sleep much, I couldn't put it down.
I'm very glad that I purchased several of the books I didn't have in the Dune House Cozy Mystery series, as I'm reading them in a day! Suzie and Mary have several problems as they work to assist Suzie's cousin, Jason, as he sorts out the good guys from the bad. I really like getting to know a little more about some of the "regulars" - those characters who are in each book. If readers of this review are in search of a series that has it all, as far as a good thriller mystery goes, this one is for you!
This 1s a series of cosy mysteries that I haven't read before. It typifies the genre for characterisation of the amateur sleuths- middle aged women who run a guest house and have detective friends. It does however have a real storyline with the proper gathering if information, missing in many of the same ilk. Is this because the series has progressed from its beginnings? I don't know but i am certainly interested enough to find out
I love Mary and Suzie and after 14 books I still can't wait till the next if you love a great cozy with characters you will love and a story that keeps you turning the page then this one by Cindy Bell is a must read
I felt a little lost at the beginning because I was unfamiliar with the series and many of the apparently recurrent characters. But the sleuthing was very good and the plot moved along smoothly with twists and red herrings. Very enjoyable.
Susie used to be an investigative reporter until she retired and, with her best friend, Mary, began running Dune House Bed and Breakfast in a small coastal town.
I love these characters. Suzie and Mary are a great team, always getting themselves in a bind. I have read the whole series and I find that the characters keep getting better. I can't wait to read their next adventure.
The friendship between Suzie and Mary is wonderful. Closer than sisters and always there for each other. Suzie’s cousin, Jason, is just as close to Mary as he is to Suzie. My heart feels good as I read about them. Throw in their furry friend, Pilot, and you have the perfect book.
Great story. Love the main characters. It's nice to have two friends work so well together. I could read stories all day with Susie and Mary in them. Thank you.
I just sadly finished the last book in this series. I loved the whole series. I do hope there will be more Dune House books. Please. Cindy write some more.
I love the main characters in this series. A lot of serious crime in this small town. My pet peeve…saying people that when it should be people who. It occurs repeatedly throughout each book.
Suzie and Mary are the owners of the beautiful Dune House, a B&B by the beach. This time there is a bike race in town and Suzie and Mary are hosting the guests in their lovely B&B. Only the town becomes rocked when there is another dead body found, but it is believed to be murder. Suzie and Mary again start to try and investigate the crime, while Mary is also dealing with a suspicious detective Wes. A very suspenseful book, keeps you hooked as you feel like you are a character in the book and on the investigation journey with Suzie and Mary. You also experience the feeling of shock as you discover who the dead body belongs to. Read this book to find out if Suzie and Mary are able to solve this crime before another murder is committed or they become victims themselves!
How can such a beautiful place be such a hive for murder? Lots of suspects, exciting suspense and our clue busting duo are soon on the case. Close shaves for them both at the climatic end to this one. Jason is run ragged even before the murder, stretched thin he does his best to stay on top of it all but it's Susie and Mary who crack the case. Great read.
I read this on a cool spring evening where the quiet chirping of birds settling down made this a perfect book to read. A little mystery and murder added to a Bit of romance made this a perfect read.
