When you’re on the other side of the law and need demons taken care of. You don’t go to the cops. You go to New York City’s unfriendly neighborhood vigilante PI, with demonic magic . . . That's me in case you didn't know.
The Yakuza and Russian Mafia have turned the streets of New York into a bloody war zone, while the demons that started the war work in the shadows to move forward with their plans.
The Yakuza has made me an offer I can’t refuse. Help them solve the murder of one of their members. Imagine my surprise when every possible suspect is a demon, including the nine-tailed Kitsune, a shifter that will stop at nothing to prevent me from solving this case.
And if I don’t solve this case quickly the Mafia wars will start claiming the lives of innocent people; starting with my family.
Eddie R. Hicks is a Canadian science fiction author of the Splintered Galaxy series. Although he enjoys his work in the culinary arts industry over the last few years, his true passion since he was a very young age has always been story telling.
Still a fan of his series but this book seems to fall a bit flat. The ending leaves notice of new sequel with multiple protagonists which hopefully should build on this mediocre endeavor.
Reika, the lead character in Eddie R. Hicks’ Contaminated Souls Series, is among the very top of my favorite kick-a** heroines list (which is the list of my favorite sort of character). An ex Yakuza PI she takes no prisoners in a world full of danger (thanks in large part to its being infested with demons, succubi, and other supernatural / paranormal types). This newest chapter in her story, Awakening of the Demon Girl (Book 3), has her stuck between two groups you don’t want to be stuck between: the Yakuza and the Russian mob. Read the publisher’s blurb for a good summary that doesn’t spoil anything. If it’s at all appealing to you then I can promise that this action-packed thriller of a gritty urban fantasy / paranormal tale will be something you’ll love. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
I've read book 2 and 3 in just over two days. Non stop action makes for a quick read. Lots of action, a truck full of body parts, a a bit of hot dirty sex keeps the story going and leaving you a bit tired. I am looking forward for the next installment once again.
An edgy, sexy, and street-wise fantasy. Bad girl Reika, used to run with the Yakuza, and now finds herself crosswise with both the Yakuza and the Russian mob. Add to that, demons, succubi, and other supernatural and paranormal characters and there is never a dull moment.
5 stars for the style and ability to write a decent continuation story series ! Although I'm more into these type of books with sapphic lovers ! Not so much Bi characters ! Here's hoping that in the future they're be more of my taste in characters ! KUDOS 💗on the first three books !
