Years after the brutal murder of the Emperor at the hands of a Mystic Paladin; an ancient darkness has fallen over the Realm of EveryWhen. Daemonic abominations plague the lands, spreading their ruinous corruption throughout the once great Empire. Seductive whispers of the Dark Gods speak of a prophecy heralding the return of the Uncreated God, Tartarus and his daemonic legion, led by a new mortal champion to usher in the end times.
Only one thing stands in the way of the consuming darkness threatening the Age of Mortals. Two warriors from the disgraced guild of Godslayers wander the lands in secret. Dedicating their lives to cleansing the Realm of the Uncreated God’s ruinous influence, they set out on a journey to assassinate the Emperor.
So begins an epic fantasy saga—the story of disillusioned heroes; of powerful forces of evil; of dark magic and mythical creatures. This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of overcoming insurmountable odds for the greater good.
MATTHEW GILLIES is a Canadian dark fantasy, horror and science fiction author who began his adventure into literary fiction at an early age. Since he was a young boy, he’s long had a passion for telling stories. The day his mom brought home an electric typewriter was the day Matthew knew he wanted to become an author.
Like many emerging authors, the journey to publishing his work has been a long road. At the age of sixteen, Matthew wrote his first horror novel, The Experiment, and promptly followed up with the science fiction novel, The Pig Factory and the cyberpunk novel Oblivious Paradise.
After years of letting his novels sit untouched, he took his dad’s advice about self-publishing and becoming an indie author. What transpired from there was the 2014 release of his debut New Adult horror novel, The Electric Coma Dream.
Voted one of the ten best horror novels of 2014 by horrornovelreviews.com, The Electric Coma Dream continues to be Matthew’s most popular novel, garnering critical acclaim from fans of his writing.
In 2015, Matthew released his dark fantasy novel, The Master & The Servant, as well as the cyberpunk novel, Oblivious Paradise.
As a fan of the cyberpunk genre, Matthew released a stand-alone sequel to Oblivious Paradise entitled H+ before returning to his roots and publishing his first collection of short horror stories in The Acute Physiologies of Grotesque Monstrosities.
His latest novel, EveryWhen is the first book in an epic, fantasy series called the Chronicles of the Godslayers.
"Fools," cried Nidhogg. "By the death of my kin, you've marked yourselves for death. You think you've won. You think you can defeat me... us... the princes and princesses of Tartarus-the Dark Gods of the Uncreated-you are mistaken..." As someone who doesn't spend a lot of my time with Fantasy literature, EveryWhen: Chronicles of the Godslayers Book 1 by Matthew Gillies was an adventure worth every minute. With a rich lore, an interesting cast of characters, and a gruesomely poetic writing style EveryWhen just like be the most Gilliesian book written thus far. In this Dark Fantasy world of EveryWhen, the influence of the Uncreated God, Tartarus is spreading with the help of his loyal followers such as Emperor Djehutimesu and Queen Valeria, the Mistress of Decay. Luckily there are warriors who exist to oppose everything the Uncreated stands for and these warriors are know as Godslayers. Frost and Astrid quest in the name of Queen Cassadane to kill these Apostles of the Dark Gods meeting some interesting allies along the way including a Demi God named Andromeda who's sole concern is killing the Emperor and vanquishing the Uncreated. Valeria manages to preform a ceremony that unleashes evil across the land à laBerserk letting loose the seven princes and princesses of Tartarus. "No longer shall we be victims of the primeval doctrines built on lies. Their spell has been broken and the time is nigh for the Old Gods to be dispelled and for the Gods of New to claim their dominion." Valeria declares. Though through each challenge, the Godslayers and their allies rise to meet the occasion, rising once more every time they take a fall. "Death comes for us all... and when she comes for us, we will not run from it, but embrace her with open arms." The words sent a shiver through the soldiers. The conviction of the Godslayers was humbling. Death almost comes for the Godslayers too. Encounters with monsters galore and the blades of the Inquisitors leave a gore stained canvas across the realm as their situation appears increasingly desperate. Our quest ends in a desolate position with the sting of loss, and an uncertainty of where to go. But there is a glimmer of hope, and the Godslayers have no intention of giving up.
