Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse

Rate this book
Mouse remains a damaged young girl, living in The Deep.
She created me (Jade), Peter, Neil, Jane, Zen, Nancy, Ray, Lucy, and Anne.
That’s what people with Dissociative Identity Disorder do.

Following on from the events of Book 1, Alternatives to a Frozen Mouse, this book is the second part of our journey integrating Anne into her new life.

Anne needs to connect with the final four alters before she can carry out her plan. To remove the remaining barriers, we must work together to unearth Mouse’s early memories, which are fractured and hidden among the ‘us’.

But when we are met face to face with more monsters wearing people suits, dark secrets are remembered, truths are brought back into the light, and forgotten nightmares are relived. Worst of all, we are shown how fallible we are. I guess that makes us human after all.

DID is not just our disorder and our reason for being separate, but also what allowed us to survive. Scattered and united, imperfectly perfect, just the way we are. But now we know how and why our DID developed, we are ready to carry out Anne’s plan for resolution.

This book is dedicated to our original personality, our Frozen Mouse – the author of us all.

One thing I love about AJ Mouse’s novels was experiencing something that you don’t think is common, but it is surprising how her books have a connection to me/my life that spans beyond what we deem as normal.
I was lucky enough to receive an advance copy of her new book; Parts, Pieces and Aspects of a Frozen Mouse. It picks up from the first book, expanding from Alternatives to a Frozen Mouse. I love this series, and each work allows me to see in my mind’s eye of these ten beautiful people.
Again taking up the pen are Jade and Anne, but we had a bit more of an insight into the others. Peter’s survivor spirit, Ray’s dance parties, Jane’s calm and beautiful soul and Lucy’s understanding of passion and touch.
Miss Mouse gives us much warning when the rabbit-hole could be too profound for some, but I would suggest you read even with this advice to skip as you need to see and feel. Monsters are not hiding under the bed but in plain sight.
I adore this book and the series. My love of these ten people makes my heart sing. The honesty and compassion of this book brought me to tears, laughter, anger and joy.
This again has knocked another big-time fantasy author off my top ten #1 books. This is a must-read for anyone who wants to see the world behind that curtain people fear to open, that monster hides behind normality, and a mental disorder does not mean you are an odd duck.
Exceptional and insightful, 5 out of 5 stars!

Once again I was compelled through the stunningly honest portrayal of DID and found myself crying while reading throughout some of this book. Taking immense courage and showing such bravery in writing out their story and the honest truths learned along the way, I couldn't put this book down once I picked it up. Due to the nature of my work I resonated with the experience of hearing similar things to what they had to hear from the monsters of this world. It broke my heart to hear the stories and made me want to reach through the pages and let them all know how brave they are and to give them a hug at having the courage and strength to tell it all. Beautifully written and yet so heartbreaking to read at the same time. As much as the story made me cry, I am determined to see it through because as long as they have the strength to tell their story, I will read the books to their conclusion.

I was totally engrossed in this second autobiography by A J Mouse. It is an addition to her first book 'Alternatives to a Frozen Mouse'. I found the first book fascinating as a study of how the mind can, and will, do extraordinary things to keep a person alive and functioning, in the best possible way. I was amazed that any child could suffer as she did and still survive - although at a huge cost to mind, body and soul. Jade the child, was failed, and abuse heaped on the existing abuse, by the first doctor to whom she turned for help as a young eleven year old- without the help of a non-functioning mother or any other support person- who did an internal examination, said not enough damage to bear out her story and called her a 'filthy little mouse'.

Later in her eleventh year an event happened which tipped Jade over the top and she abdicated her life and hid deep within the psyche of the body, and is why she is now called Mouse; and why the name Jade is used by the one who arrived to take her place to keep the body alive and functioning. This created huge stress levels for Jade as the main 'Alternative' who had to hold her life together and find a balance that worked. All the 'Alternatives' were created in response to a hugely life threatening event; and the memories of the first two who came before Jade were hidden from her and others who had come along later.

The coming of the tenth 'alternative' Anne, in response to a trigger of emotional stress, made it necessary for the existing Alternatives to relive the events which brought them into existence. Anne needed a clear picture of what had happened to bring the 'Alternatives' into the psyche of the child called Jade. Anne seemed to have the task of bringing some normality to the soul of Jade and all the 'Alternatives'; to get co-operation and understanding of each for the others, and also to find justice for them after having been failed so often.

This second book is compelling reading as it continues to introduce the rest of the 'Alternatives' to meet Anne and explains how and why they were brought into the life of Mouse. It is clear why A J Mouse guards her identity so closely. This time the failure was by the legal system, and again abuse was heaped on existing abuse. I was again amazed by the ability of the mind to bring forth the specific help needed in the form of different 'Alternatives'.

This book explains so clearly how a personality will 'split' and other personalities or identities can come into being in a person's life, simply to keep the original person alive and functioning.

A J Mouse tells it like it is, with no fancy language and no pretense that her life was easy. It was extremely difficult, and took a huge effort, and were it not for the birth of her much loved son, she may not have survived to tell this tale. After many years, A J Mouse learned with the help of all the Alternativew' how to live a life that would be viewed by the society and community as normal - just like you or me. Her biggest achievement, which became apparent in this book ,was her ability to fly under the radar, so to speak; to hold down a very responsible job; raise a normal son - just like yours or mine; marry and be part of a community. The difficulty of holding it all together with the input of the different 'Alternatives' is an enormous effort. The book depicts, in real and frightening
detail how a huge shock, threatened the emergence of another 'Alternative'.

I believe this book will be used as a text book in Psychology courses to bring forth the truth about DID/Dissociative Identity Disorder. It will clarify for the health industry and the legal services the truth of how it manifests. At present there is only a presumption of how it manifests; created by movies and TV shows which dramatise it so graphically- not the case. Unfortunately some abusers are faking this disorder to escape justice. The book finally reveals the major cause of the disassociation and will rewrite the definition of 'Consent' as used by the legal profession. At present it is 'She/He did not say NO'. Most abused people were abused from a very early age when they had no fight instinct, and were too small to run and screaming did not bring help.

This left their instinctive reaction to enable the 'freeze' part of the Flight, Fight or Freeze syndrome. In this mode the body is totally frozen and the victim cannot respond in any way, physically or verbally. Once engaged, this automatic response will kick in every time there is a threat similar to the first incident; rendering the person frozen and unable to say 'No'.

The definition, to overcome this issue, should be a verbal response of affirmation. This is where all sexually abused victims have abuse heaped upon abuse; by the health, educational and legal systems in today's society.

This is an absolute must read for every person engaged in the health, educational and legal systems in our society.

I hope there is a third book to bring closure to this great saga of endurance, strength, intelligence and grit determination.

When I read the first book, 'Alternatives to a Frozen Mouse', I had found a book that had a profound impact on me. I had been highly anticipating the release of book two. When I received it, I started back at the beginning by reading Book 1 again, then immediately followed it with Book 2. Parts, Pieces and Aspects follows on from the first book, still introducing us to Anne and the other alters and revealing more of their past, providing us with insight as to how the alters came to be. This book had me feeling a range of emotions. I laughed a few times and cried a lot. I got angry at how people can treat other humans, especially children, but my eyes have been opened to what does go on in this world. I highly recommend this book to everyone. If you are after a story about survival, this is it!
