Earth Forces Command has sent one of its newest Heavy Cruisers, the Udom-Gareth, deep into an uncharted section of the Galaxy to investigate a series of mysterious Sound Bursts. Once there, the Gareth is attacked by a powerful race known as the Sokari. The heavily damaged ship is sent plummeting to the surface of a nearby planet with an atmosphere so dense it hides the massive warship from her attackers. Three rescue ships are sent to assist but are also attacked as soon as they arrive in system. The three ships link up with the Gareth and attempt a fighting retreat but must stop when one of the vessels is damaged and cannot continue. The ensuing battle between the four human ships and the Sokari Fleet takes place both in the void of space and on the surface of a mysterious planet that possesses a hidden danger of its own. What the crews of the four ships find just under the surface of this planet is so sinister and dangerous that there are no human words available to fully describe it. Now the Gareth, along with the other three warships, must find a way to survive a battle against two hostile forces. A battle that could determine the future of the human race itself.

Great Read

The book began slow for me. After about 50 pages it got my entire attention. Good character development, great antagonists that eat people, and it kept my tension. I would read the author again. I like stand alone books but is was sorry that there was not a second book.

Figuring book

This book starts fast, goes in more directions than you can think of and ends in a surprise finish. Have to check if there are follow up series.

I read it in two nights

Wow, just Wow, I usually don’t write reviews, but this time I couldn’t leave without sharing how good this book is.
The universe in the story is extremely violent, and full of heartbreaking surprises, it starts as an average military sci-fi work, but since the beginning there is something different, is clean and straight to the point, but as the story advances, it becomes in a mix between action, terror, horror, survival, you name it, and is GREAT. The worse nightmare are monsters with a high IQ.

Great book

Extremely well written with excellent characterization. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and would strongly recommend this author. Definitely plan to look for other titled by Wright. This could have been the basis for a series.

I was confused by this title as the book I opened was Chester's Last Ride. That was the last sentence in the book. The young man and his dog were hunting in the wilderness until they encountered criminals who had taken over a small town. There was drama as he faced a blizzard and dangerous men. He pursued the villains and drove them away. There he learned that his wealthy father was in great danger and traveled across the country to get to his father. The young man and his dog meet a number of notable people along the way who knew his father was in grave danger. There was a lot of action at the end of the book as the young man worked with father to defend their lives and those of his employees. In the end a hermit and his horse Chester prevailed against the villains.
In all it was an interesting read. I did find myself confused by the long passages to introduce a new character in the book.
Overall right prevails against criminals.
