Being a cop is Montana Edwards’ ultimate goal in life. Her big thighs and beautiful smile could fool any perk undercover. Too cute, too thick, and too short to be so dangerous, but she loves every moment. Until she realizes she hasn’t seen it all. Montana soon figures out that the last ten years of being a beat cop doesn’t compare to her new experiences as an undercover detective in the narcotics division.
Lines are visibly crossed when Montana attempts to take down one of the streets most untouchable Jamaican gangsters and entrepreneurs Lonnel Greers, preferably known as “London” in the streets. Montana is working hard against the dope game, violent executions, and disappearances occurring in the streets. However, unbeknownst to her, her actions may be contributing to the issues instead. Sometimes, in order to stay clean, you have to get a little dirty. She duly discovers that the reflection in the mirror mirrors your surrounding and that your inner circle is a reflection of you—the ultimate inner image of your true internal desires.
Montana finds out that seduction and manipulation will take you a long way down a one way street while some things are never what they appear to be. Montana ultimately learns that who you are in others is a breeding ground for the broken and a playing field for the vengeful when you’re holding feelings of contempt. Getting caught up and completely over her head, Montana falls in too deep and needs a reminder on where her true loyalty lies. With London’s lips at her throat and her partner Telly DeLorenzo on her back, she quickly discerns it’s either love or loyalty, and there is definitely no place for both in this game. She has to choose a either love or her career.
Twyla T Presents brings you this new urban suspense debut by upcoming author Audrey Red. Find out how which side Montana chooses in this first book in the Broken Contempt series.
Montana played her role to the T. This book had me questioning her loyalties. Lines were crossed and visions became blurred. The ending got me though. Now, I'm trying to figure out her agenda towards Telly: was her gesture legit or a setup? I really believe that Montana and London fell for each other in spite of. Maybe there's hope for them after all, but only time will tell. Looking forward to reading more about the characters. Good debut story.
