Fear's Sharp Little Needles is a grand collection of Call of Cthulhu 7th edition scenarios in a modern setting (easily convertible to 6th edition). They focus on the darker aspects of horror roleplaying and, as such, are recommended for a mature audience.
More inspired by True Detective and Hannibal than Pulp Horror, these adventures involved mythos corruption of the Human psyche and many feature direct contact with entities from outside space and time.
Ideally suited to one evening's play, they have been written with a compact adventure style and Keepers will need a minimum of preparation time before being able to run them. Each scenario will also have tags in the header image so they can make quick decisions on what to run and then deal with dinner, family, or relaxing before their players arrive.
This is a book filled with rough diamonds. And you should know that going in. Most of these adventures need work from the GM. Some you can play from the get go, but most will be a lot better if you do a bit of work on them. As this is a large collection, not all will be to everyones taste. And some are a bit nasty (for mature players). I do also think that a few of these adventures would work better in other systems, Unknowned armies was my first thought. But all in all a great collection with a few stories that didnt fit my style of playing/idea about the mythos. As a collection of adventures, this is probably one of the best I have read to CoC. Even if you need to put some work into it. Very much recomended.
You know, after absolutely adoring the previous volume of scenarios, this one was a real let down.
The problem is structural, it's 27 short scenario ideas, many of which are just a couple of pages. They're really short, they're really lacking in details, and most of them are just based around one cool creepy idea.
And that's great for a Creepypasta short story. But I don't think it's gonna work for my gaming group. Not without putting in a ton more work. And... I don't buy scenario books to have to put in a ton of work.
