Are your sales results always awesome? Or do some months leave you wondering if you’ll be able to pay your mortgage? One of the most difficult parts of being a professional salesperson is managing the emotional peaks and valleys that accompany the ups and downs of sales. But according to Weldon Long, there is no challenge you can’t overcome, and he shows how salespeople can thrive in the face of adversity if they are just willing to create the right mindset and implement the right sales process—consistently.
Unreliable performance and unpredictable results are likely, says Long, because you aren't doing the same thing consistently on every sales call. If sales activities are random, results will be random. And random sales activities will never accidentally start producing consistent sales results, just as consistent sales activities will never start producing random results. It just can’t happen.
Whether it’s a bad economy, a cheap competitor, bad leads, or a personal challenge, Long provides step-by-step advice on how you can make committed, consistent activities part of your daily sales routine so you will consistently be rewarded with the sales you deserve.
Weldon Long is a successful entrepreneur, sales expert, and author, who—in 2003—walked out of a homeless shelter where he was living and within sixty months, had grown a sales organization to over $20 million in sales.
A decent introduction for newer sales people as well as more intermediate sales people wanting to brush up on strategies. The book helps you ask the right questions to get people to continue to agree with you. I fashioned some statements the author gave as examples to fit my needs and added them to some of my scripts/tool box.
I've been to in-person sales training so there were no out of this world new concepts, but a good perspective on sales and solid reinforcements of technique.
I received this book for free in exchange for a review.
Consistency Selling: Powerful Sales Results. Every Lead. Every Time. takes a straightforward but important premise consistent sales activities produce more predictable sales results and develops it into a practical philosophy for professional selling. Weldon Long focuses less on quick motivational fixes and more on the discipline required to build repeatable habits, particularly when external circumstances make selling difficult.
The book’s strongest element is its emphasis on process over emotional volatility. Salespeople inevitably experience strong months and difficult months, and Long addresses the temptation to change strategies whenever results decline. His central argument is that unpredictable activity creates unpredictable outcomes, while disciplined repetition gives sales professionals a foundation they can control.
Long’s own background adds credibility to the message. His journey from homelessness to building a sales organization generating more than $20 million in sales provides a compelling real-world backdrop for his emphasis on persistence, personal responsibility, and execution.
Another strength is the book’s practical orientation. Rather than treating sales success as a matter of personality or luck, Long frames it as something that can be developed through deliberate daily behavior. His approach is particularly relevant to sales professionals working in competitive environments where lead quality, economic conditions, and competitors are outside their control.
Ultimately, Consistency Selling is about replacing emotional reactions with disciplined execution. Its message is simple but valuable: sales professionals cannot control every outcome, but they can control the quality and consistency of the activities that produce those outcomes. For salespeople, entrepreneurs, managers, and business owners seeking greater predictability in performance, the book offers a useful framework for building sustainable sales habits.
Disclaimer: I won this Kindle book in a Goodreads Giveaway.
While I read a fair number of business books, I don't usually read books about sales. This one was enlightening, though I don't know how much more effective the author's method is than other methods. It boils down to getting the prospect to say things like, "If you answer all my questions, I can make a decision today," and then relying on the prospect's need to be consistent (hence the title) with his previous statements once you reach the end of the call - i.e., if you've truly answered all of his questions, remind him of his previous statement and he's likely to give you an answer. The author also points out that you're better off with a No than a "I'll think about it," since the latter is unlikely to lead to any follow up, even though it gets your hopes up.
The author talks about his time in prison at the beginning of the book, but while that portion of the book is engaging, it doesn't really tie in to his sales technique.
Consistency Selling: Powerful Sales Results. Every Lead. Every Time. is a practical sales guide that emphasizes one simple but powerful principle: consistent actions produce consistent results. Drawing from his own remarkable journey from homelessness to building a multi-million-dollar sales organization, Weldon Long shows that lasting sales success is driven by disciplined habits, proven processes, and the right mindset, not luck.
What makes the book stand out is its focus on execution. Rather than offering motivational theories alone, Long provides actionable strategies that help sales professionals overcome inconsistency, handle setbacks, and build predictable performance. His straightforward approach makes the lessons easy to understand and immediately applicable.
Consistency Selling is a valuable resource for sales professionals, entrepreneurs, and business leaders looking to improve performance through discipline, confidence, and consistent daily action.
