As a child, you’re taught to forgive those who wrong you.
So what do you do when the one person you can’t forgive is yourself?
For Cassidy Ashworth, it’s a question that haunts her. She is determined to spend every day trying to make up for her past. But no amount of repenting can convince her that she’s worthy of a future with Carson Langford.
Growing up, Carson learned firsthand just how cruel life can be, how easy it is for people to prey on the weak. And there’s nothing he detests more than a bully. So focused on his self-appointed role of protector, he never counted on the beautiful blonde with haunted eyes to stumble into his life and shake up his world.
He wants to keep her. She wants to be kept.
But once the past comes to light Carson must decide if his shrinking violet is worth holding onto, or if her mistakes are too much to forgive.
Born and raised around Houston, Jessica is a self proclaimed caffeine addict, connoisseur of inexpensive wine, and the worst driver in the state of Texas. In addition to being all of these things, she’s first and foremost a wife and mom. Growing up, she shared her mom and grandmother’s love of reading. But where they leaned toward murder mysteries, Jessica was obsessed with all things romance. When she’s not nose deep in her next manuscript, you can usually find her with her kindle in hand.

I hate high school bullies, dislike high school romances, and am not fond of NA fiction for the most part as manufactured angst runs rampant and the bar is low for heroines' IQ’s and self-respect.
However…and it’s a big however, this book has one of the best, most epic smackdowns of one ex-evil Mean Girl to a Mean Girl in training. The scene and the victim's appreciation for it made the book worth reading.
Cassidy is the evil, EVIL manipulative andblackmailing evil other girl from Scattered Colors. No redeeming her, right? She's done most of her redemptive arc before the hunky cowboy and his foster sister hit the scene, but we don't actually see the result of it until later.
This has all the hallmarks of NA: hunky hero, sex, misunderstandings, sex, separation, sex and the cutest wittle pwot moppet ever.
The heroine does get redeemed in a way I seriously doubt many real life mean girls do, and it’s not just because of the angst of getting dumped by her new nice guy boyfriend.
What saved this from NA squared is when she uses her old powers of evil for good and takes down a mean bully.
The tip of the iceberg rant…
Good God. Had I been like that?
“Oh, no, sweetheart,” I replied with a sarcastic grin that was much better than hers. “I don’t need to hit you. You see, I know something you don’t know,” I said conspiratorially.
“Oh, yeah? And what’s that?”
“I know you think you’re the queen bitch at this school. I know you think you can mess with my girl and nothing will ever happen to you.” Taking the opportunity to lean in threateningly, I continued. “Unfortunately for you, I’m better at it.
The h then proceeds to prove in spades just how much better she is at being a Queen B.
Spoilers ahead, 2.5* rounded up because of Cassidy's verbal smackdown of the bullies!
Cassidy is the bitchy mean girl from book 1,after all the drama with her ex Parker she tricked Seth into getting her pregnant. She then moves away to her aunt and uncle's farm. Four years later Cassidy is no longer the 18 year old who did so many horrible things to people, she's matured and made a good life for herself and her daughter, she doesn't date and isn't interested in any man......until the new ranch hand comes to the area.
Carson has grown up in the foster care system, all his life he's felt unwanted and now it's only him and his foster sister Navie against the world. When he takes a second job at the ranch , falling for Cassidy and her daughter is the last thing he expected
Sparks fly when the h/H met but nothing happened and Cassidy basically avoids him until she goes to a bar one night with her friend and bounces into Carson and a woman exiting the storage room after they had sex. She's hurt and upset and Carson ends up kissing her (after having sex with another woman). Realizing he has feelings for Cassidy he isn't with another woman after that
Carson is the typical broken manwhore who looks for ease from his loneliness and pain in many random vaginas. From a convo between him and Navie we know he has a lot of ONS. He said he'd tried to stop but couldn't. Thankfully after being with Cassidy he doesn't want anyone's else
The moments between Caron and Willow were cute as hell but I wanted more interaction between them
Navie is being bullied by a mean girl so I fully expected Carson's reaction to Cassidy's pass actions. She did some really hurtful stuff in high school but she'd grown a lot in the years. Hearing she'd basically lied to her child's father about being on birth control and the lengths she went to against Freya led to a fight between Carson and Cassidy that led to a ridiculous weeks long separation.
Eventually they get back together though I'd wished they'd gotten back together because of another reason.
Ily the end
I liked Lana and the secondary characters though I'm not sure about Navie's book because she spent most of the time in this one crying.
All in all this was just barely ok which was disappointing since I liked book 1
DNF @ 21%. I've never given a Prince book less than 4 stars so I'm completely shocked that I'm dnfing one. I couldn't take anymore. It's filled with NA cliches and when Carson I had enough. And her best friend wouldn't let up about encouraging it. Ick.
Is there anything cuter than a sexy man who is wrapped around a little girl's finger? I don't think so. And neither will you after this one.
Warning: This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone.
If you, like me read Scattered Colors and hated Cassidy, like me. You are in for a slice of humble pie. I hate it when authors make me like charterers I don't want to like.
Cassidy has escaped her life back home. The life she came to despise. She didn't like her friends, her choices or herself. She has fled across the country to try to be someone she doesn't hate. For her and for her baby.
Carson hasn't had the best life. But he is determined that he can make a better one for him and his sister.
I felt that niggling sense of hope trying to push its way to the forefront and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't seem to beat it down.
When Carson goes to work at Cassidy's uncle's ranch, he finds the security he has been searching for. Security in doing a day's work. In finding a place where he belongs. In a group of people who might actually care for him. All things he has lacked in the past.
As Cassidy gets to know Carson, she knows this could be more than just a fling. But that is also what she fears the most. If this is more, than she is going to have to come clean about her past. The past that made me dislike her. The past that makes her unworthy of Carson. The past that she knows will drive him away.
It was as if I held my redemption in my hands, watching it slip through my fingers like sand. And I was helpless to stop it.
This was a sweet story of second chances even when you didn't want to give them. The story of finding a better version of yourself. Of making the life you want instead of being the person you were. I loved Carson and Bug, Cassidy's daughter. You will like this one despite yourself. I did.
Hero was gross, he screwed a customer in the storage room, bumped into the heroine whilst zipping up and then cock blocked her all night because he KNEW those other men weren't good enough for her, but according to him he was a prize.
UGGHH no thanks!!

Overall Opinion: I put off reading this one because I was worried that I wouldn't be able to connect with the h because of how awful she was in the previous book, Scattered Colors. I'm happy I gave it a chance. I do think it helped that I had a good bit of time between reading them, as I might not have been so forgiving of her actions of it was still fresh in my memory. Overall it was a sweet read about making changes in ourselves to be the best person we can be, and overcoming our sometimes hurtful upbringings. What made me rate so low was that after it was done I had a feeling of "that was it?" and I'm not sure I can pinpoint exactly what it was that made that feeling, but I don't think this'll go down as a favorite or as all that memorable in the long run.
Storyline: This is Cassidy and Carson's story. They meet when Carson starts work at her aunt's ranch as a ranch-hand. The sparks fly instantly for both of them. Cassidy is still untrusting of herself because of the cruel things she did in the past (she was a bully and blackmailer) in desperation to find someone to love her, and she feels unworthy of anyone's love. Carson grew up on the foster system and has abandonment issues where he feels insecure, so he has never thought of pursuing a relationship further than a ONS before Cassidy. After a good bit of time (and some major hesitation from Cassidy), they move their relationship to more than friends and some strong feelings develop. They have some trouble with Carson's Foster sister getting bullied, some sweet moments with Cassidy's daughter bonding with Carson, some unexpected ex visits, and some secrets being revealed...but the couple find their HFN.
POV: This alternated between Cassidy and Carson's POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good. I read it quickly. There were no slow parts causing skimming, and no instalove.
H rating: 3 stars. Carson. I liked him, but I wish he would've communicated better when they had their main conflict.
h rating: 4 stars. Cassidy. I'm happy I got to see a different side to her. She really did redeem herself, and turned into a sweet, loving person.
Sadness level: Moderate. There were a few times that I teared up. So, some tissues needed.
Heat level: Moderate. They do have some hot steamy times.
Descriptive sex: Yes
Sex scene with OW or OM:
Cheating:
Possible Triggers:
Closure: It had a good amount of closure, especially with Cassidy's past issues. It also had what would call a HFN for the couple.
Worth the $?: It was part of kindle unlimited, so yes.
**** I Love Story Time was gifted an ARC in exchange for an honest review ****
4.5 Stars!!!
OMG...I loved it!!! I loved Scattered Colors, so when I had the chance to read this, I didn't hesitate! I did enjoy Scattered Colors just a little bit more, only because it was more of an emotional story for me. However, I won't let that take away from how much I liked Shrinking Violet. After reading this, I understand more of what Cassidy went through and what she was dealing with while she was tormenting everyone in high school. I can't begin to imagine living a life not feeling loved and being constantly put down by my parents. I'm not saying that the things that she did were okay, but I can see why she was grasping for the attention and the love of someone else.
It's 4 years later and she's doing everything she can not to fall back into the person she once was. She's adjusting to the family she now has around her that is constantly showing the love she always searched for. She doesn't date or go out. She just helps with the farm that she lives on and hangs out with her best friend Lana. I loved Lana! She is so funny! Half the things that came out of her mouth made me crack up, especially the things she would say to Cassidy about Carson!
"Well, one thing's for damn sure. I think you need to ride Carson like a rodeo cowgirl, woman! Jesus, I think I got off on the sparks you two were throwing."
or.....
"Dear God, I hope he's packing. If he's carrying anything less than six inches with that body, it'd be like a slap in the face from God."
As for Carson???? I loved everything about him. He is the whole package. 6 inches and plus!!! HAHA! Just kidding! Seriously... there is so much more to Carson then just the hot body he's sporting with a smile that would make any girls panties drop. I think I fell in love with him over and over in this story. The way he was with Cassidy was sexy. The way he was with Bug was cute. But, the way that he was with Navie was heart warming.
"I love you. You're the best brother I never had Carson."
"I love you too. You're the best sister I never had, little bit."
So as you can see, this is definitely a story that I would recommend to all my fellow readers! It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it by far made me swoon! Once again, I will be looking forward to reading more from Jessica Prince! I'm really hoping that Navie will get a book of her own. My heart broke for her in this story. She is the sweetest thing and I hope she finds the love that she deserves.
Cute, sweet romance. Its fairly predictable (although I must say the way Cass speaks about her past I was expecting WAY worse). I liked Carson and Cassidy and her daughter was adorable. I thought that Carson and Cassidy's relationship progressed at an appropriate pace, which I always enjoy since so many books start with sex then work though the 'getting to know you' stage. If you are looking for a straight forward new adult romance that isn't all about sex, this is a good book. Its a pretty fast read as well! Flames: 2 (only a handful of scenes and they are only mildly descriptive) Stars: 4
When Cassidy arrived in Texas a broken girl, pregnant and alone to her Aunt’s ranch she didn’t expect the love or acceptance she found there. Milly and Kal opened their hearts and home to this broken girl.
All she wanted to do was try and find some redemption from her past. She hadn’t been a nice person, cruel and vindictive she hadn’t cared who she hurt.
It’s been four years and the broken girl is now a mom to a precocious little girl. The change in her is incredibly moving. Though Cassidy never forgets what she did. The guilt torments her. She feels as though she doesn’t deserve happiness, Willow her daughter is her whole life and she’s content. That is until the new ranch hand Carson arrives.
Carson was a foster kid, he’s never had anyone want him. Navie is foster sister is the only one who’s ever made him feel a part of something a family.
Arriving at Willow ranch he wasn’t expecting Cassidy or the attraction he feels to the young mother.
When these two finally succumb to the chemistry building it seems like happily ever after is in the cards. But when Cassidys past comes back to haunt her it nearly destroys what they have.
It’s a second chance at life, forgiveness and redemption.
Let me count the ways I love Ms. Prince and all her words...
And while we are at it...let's add author super hero to the list. To take a character that I loathed and make me not only like her but completely and utterly WANT for her is a talent to behold. But alas, Ms. Prince did just that, she took Cassidy and made her not just likable but lovable. Finding her way out of the selfish asswhore she once was through the love of her family and daughter was so amazing to witness. I loved this story. Easy to read. A breeze to connect with. And answers to questions you didn't even know to ask. I can't believe I didn't already read this. I met Navie before I MET NAVIE. Starting with her book first. I'm so glad I went backwards and caught up with how these stories began. I loved every second of it.
I received an ARC copy of Shrinking Violet (Book #2 in the series, or stand alone) in return for my honest review and that is exactly what you will get.
Shrinking Violet it the second book in the series. Although I agree that this book can hold it's own as a stand alone, I truly feel that you will be cheating yourself if you skipped another amazing book (Scattered Colors). I also feel that having read the books in order, I went into the book with a totally different outlook and with totally different emotions then I would have if I started off with this book instead.
I am having a hard time finding the words that would do this book any justice. I am in complete awe! This book was amazing, astounding, breathtaking, heartwarming, ugh.. I just don't know. It was unreal. Both books in the series are. Really, truly and honestly. I finished the book and literately had puffy eyes from all the tears and felt a heavy pain in my chest from all the emotion that I still felt coursing thru me. I have heard of a book hang over before, but can honestly say this was a first for me.
When I looked at the first page and the very first word was "Cassidy", I was disappointed. I had just finished the first book and to be honest she was the last person I wanted to read about. I took a deep breath and dove in despite my harsh feeling I harbored against her. I can't believe that after all the hard feelings I felt toward her, that she would so quickly become my favorite female character to date.
All the characters in this book are amazing. They all have a beautiful personality with a dark and shaky past. You can't help but want to reach out and hug them, to love them, and most of all to let them know that they are special to someone. When you are done with this book, you will be forced to rethink everything you have known and thought about "people" and "bullies". I have always had a very open mind and forgiving nature, but this really left me wanting to believe the best in everyone and to know that deep down anyone who wants to can and will change for the best if given the opportunity.
So many touchy subjects were so gracefully covered in this story also, many of which we tend to sweep under the rug and pretend they don't exist. Mistakes made, personal demons, foster care, abandonment, abuse, love, lust, family, courage, bullying, pain, fear and most of all forgiveness are just a taste of the topics that are handled with such care in this tale.
I don't want to give to many details as I fear slipping up and giving a spoiler. So I am going to tell you that Shrinking Violet is a must read and I highly recommend both books in the series. If you love to read, find that you suffer from personal demons as so many of us do, and have ever longed for love and or forgiveness then this book was written just for you! One-Click Book #1 Scattered Colors today and Pre-Order Shrinking Violet as soon as it's available!!
Shrinking Violet is another masterpiece from Jessica Prince. I devoured this book, completely consumed by Jessica’s amazing talent for provoking emotion and her utterly enchanting storytelling. I didn’t think in a million years that I could relate to Cassidy, that I could forgive her for everything she had done in Scattered Colors, but Jessica Prince made falling in love with this character effortless. Filled with life lessons and the hope of redemption, her story was so much more than I could have ever imagined. Shrinking Violet is a story about finding your own family, accepting unconditional love, and our remarkable capacity for finding forgiveness, not just in others, but also in ourselves.
Cassidy and Carson were truly something special. They just had this innate sadness and sense of resignation that made my heart ache for them. Cassidy has been punishing herself for the mistakes of her past and while everyone else could see that she’s a changed person, she still saw herself as unworthy of love. Her struggle to forgive herself for the person she once was pulled so many feelings from me, moving me in a way that was unexpected and simply stunning. Carson on the other hand, needed to learn to trust, to allow himself to hope, and believe in the possibility of permanence. He was every bit the swoon-worthy, kind, and loving book boyfriend I love to read about, bringing tears to my eyes as he interacted with Willow and Navie. This jaded and broken couple shared a desperation for love and acceptance that had me falling hard.
Shrinking Violet isn’t just Cassidy and Carson’s story, but a story of family. I found myself addicted to the secondary characters. They brought so much warmth, color, and life to this story and I find myself already missing their inimitable dynamic. I’m hoping this won’t be the last we see of them. I adored the storyline, reveling in its raw honesty. This book made me think about forgiveness, our tendency to pass judgment, and our inability to move past our own mistakes. I could easily put myself in this story, and that gave Shrinking Violet an unexpected sense of significance. One of the things I’ve come to love most about Jessica Prince is the way in which she infuses levity into stories of heartbreak and angst. Even though this story dealt with some serious issues, I still found myself laughing at Lana’s hilarious and inappropriate comments, Milly and Kal’s straightforward and amusingly honest wisdom, and the flirtatious banter between Cassidy and Carson. My heart soared, broke, and fluttered as I experienced Cassidy and Carson’s journey. Jessica Prince has outdone herself with Shrinking Violet, capturing my heart with her lovable characters and unforgettable story.
*** Blogger Note: (I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.) Shrinking Violet is the second book in the Scattered Colors series but can be read as a standalone. ***
*** Spoiler Free ***
The meaning of the word forgiveness is a constant struggle for Cassidy Ashworth. She has a past she is not proud of and for that, asking for forgiveness is something that haunts her.
Carson Langford knows what it feels like to be thrown away. He was a foster child who moved from home to home, never was adopted and aged out of the system. He met a young girl in one of the last homes he lived in and decided she was his only hope at having a family. When she aged out of the system, her last home kicked her out… Carson takes her in and they give themselves the chance at being a family.
When Carson looks for a second job and is given an excellent paying job on a ranch, he takes it knowing it was going to help put his little sister Navie through college in the fall.
When Carson meets Cassidy, the unexpected happens. Carson breaks down Cassidy’s wall and shows her everyone is worth the chance to be given the opportunity to fix their demons… Forgiveness and all.
This is the second book I have read and reviewed for author Jessica Prince. As much as I loved Nightmares From Within, I loved Shrinking Violet even better.
This book went a little deeper and it showed us how cruel teenagers can be as I read the backflashes as teenage Cassidy. There is bullying in this book. It shows us that peer pressure can be a b@$^h and with that comes the pressure to bully to fit in.
Carson turns her world upside down, proving to her that the past is the past and everyone deserves a second chance. I loved Carson! Even with being raised in crappy home after home, he knows right from wrong. All he wants is to love and be loved and he finds that in Cassidy and her family… Eventually becoming a part of this little beautiful family.
Jessica Prince knows how to write angst, agony, and unforgettable actions but she also knows how to weave in love in just the right moments of the story to make you feel love for Cassidy. Sometimes you want to hate her but she is just trying to find a way to live with herself as an adult, not being able to get over her actions she lived and breathed as a teenager, doing everything she thinks she can do to try to fix her past, even though she believes she doesn’t deserve love or forgiveness.
This is a HEA with an excellent ending. Emotional but wonderful.
Jessica Prince does it again. What a wonderful story!! Jessica Prince’s Shrinking Violet is standalone second novel in the Colors series. This is a heartwarming story about second chances. The story is told with chapters from both Cassidy and Carson’s points of view, allowing the reader to fully understand both sides of every situation.
We met Cassidy in Prince’s first novel in the series as a snobby, bully. Truth be told, I thought she was horrible and I could not stand her; so, I was leery of reading a redemption novel about her. Now we meet her again several years later as a single mother living in Texas on her aunt and uncle’s ranch with her daughter, Willow. Willow is the most adorable four-year old who has everyone wrapped around her finger. You will learn both about Cassidy’s past as well as how she is trying to move forward with her life. Cassidy has not dated since having her daughter, too scared that she will turn back into the person she was. She continues to punish herself for being that person. Then Carson arrived and turned her world upside down.
Carson, a hardworking, hot, hot, hot man enters Cassidy’s life when he arrives to work at the ranch she lives on. Carson has a past of his own having grown up in the foster care system. He hates bullies and is the ultimate protector. He is driven to succeed and lives for taking care of his foster sister, Navie, a senior in high school who aged out of the system. Carson is the epitome of a ladies man and does not believe he could ever trust love, until he sees Cassidy, his shrinking violet.
With both Cassidy and Carson coming from difficult pasts, could they ever trust love? Can Carson accept Cassidy’s past and open up about his own?
This story has a great message and shows us why we should never judge and what a difference a second chance can make in someone’s life.
This story by Jessica Prince was well written and emotional. She captures the reader with her ability to create deep, personable characters. The reader is able to feel and identify with emotions of the characters, making this book difficult to put down. There is mild violence, mild sexual situations, and mild, rare profanity in the book. It is a wonderful New Adult Romance. I would highly recommend this book and give it five out of five stars!
Where do I start? So, we met Cassidy **cough** the nasty b!tch in Scattered Colors. So to say that I was leery to read a story of her redemption is putting it mildly. I was the leader of the I Hate Cassidy Club and I couldn't have been more wrong!
One thing I took from Shrinking Violet is to never judge. Truly. Never. Judge. We might not like a person and sometimes those reasons are totally valid. There are people in the world who just suck. No reason for it. But there are some people who have just not had an easy life, for one reason or another. And as a result they are just lost souls. They will grasp at anything and anyone for a bit of love, freedom and happiness. To hell with the consequences.
Carson and Cassidy are two characters who will stay with me for a long time. Carson because - I mean, how can you NOT love a guy who is good with kids and will do and sacrifice anything for his sister. He's a bit alpha, a lot sexy and surprisingly sweet. Cassidy because we see a girl turn into a woman and do a 180. We see someone who is willing to give up her entire previous life at a chance to become someone new. Someone willing to sacrifice everything for her daughter. Two people. Willing to sacrifice for others. Two selfless, loving, beautiful and unfortunately broken people.
When Carson comes to work at the ranch where Cassidy and Willow (and oh my gosh, this little girl is so adorable she had ME wrapped around her finger) live with Cassidy's aunt and uncle, the pull between the two is so strong they can't help but allow it to suck them in. As much as they fight it and are afraid of it, they soon realize that the connection they have together is too intense to ignore. But letting go of their pasts, letting go of the hurt and the reason why they are who they are is harder than a snap of the fingers or a passionate kiss.
I really, truly loved this redemption and love story. Jessica Prince made me realize that there's always more sides to a person's story than we realize. Five perfect stars!
**Early copy given in exchange for an honest review**
I hated Cassidy in the previous book and now... it all changed.
I was given an arc of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Scattered Colors was my first Jessica Prince book. I fell in love with Jessica's writing style, so of course I was completely on board reading 'Shrinking Violet'. I started reading and had to stop and look back at Scattered Colors. Yes, this is Cassidy's story. If you read Scattered Colors, you most likely hated Cassidy, like I did (you do not need to read Scattered Colors to read this book). I honestly thought, I don't think I can read this one. But. I pushed forward and was pleasantly surprised.
This is Cassidy's story but post-high school. She lives with regret and punishes herself everyday for her past mistakes. Until she meets Carson. She starts to think that maybe it might be time to move forward. She is nothing like that spoiled brat she was in high school.
Carson is a product of the foster system. He's used to not relying on anyone else. The only person he trusts is Navie, his foster sister. He takes a job at Willow Ranch and he can't get the 'Shrinking Violet' out of his head, after meeting her just once.
This novel is all about second chances and righting any wrongs you may have made. Nothing is a lost cause and it's never too late to make a new beginning. Jessica took a secondary character from a previous book and made me really sympathize with her. I wanted her to get her happy ending. And I wanted it to be with Carson.
I need to say that I really hope that Navie gets her own book. I absolutely loved her and I think she deserves her HEA.
I received an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
I fell in love with this book. This is the first book by Jessica Prince I've read. This is the second book in a series. I bought the first book and have to read it. This book can be read as a standalone.
This book about second chances and how people can change if they want to. Love and understanding can help a person to become better and to strive to be better.
Carson has grown up in different foster homes. He never knew love, stability and understanding and he never had anyone to protect him. He's never had hope for anything until he starts working at Willow's Ranch. But he doesn't trust things to boot happen. He was bullied as a child and he hates them.
Cassidy was sent to her uncle Kal and Milly's ranch in Texas by her parents. She's broken. Her parents don't want to deal with her. Cassidy carries around a lot of guilt because of things she did. She doesn't think she deserves anything good for herself. But she'll do whatever she can to make sure the ones she loves are happy. And she'll do whatever to protect them.
This book is so good, it has all the feels and emotions needed in a book. The last few chapters had me in tears. I loved how the story developed and the characters grew and changed.
I highly recommend this book. Can't wait for the third book. I hope it's Naive's book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Crazy Cajun Book Addicts for an honest review.
So let me start by saying that after reading the amazing Scattered Colors (book 1) I was a little apprehensive about reading Cassidy's story as she really wasn't my favourite person but OMG!! I'm so glad I did. This book is set 4 years later and Cassidy has had some drastic changes in her life, it's been hard but with the love of her aunt, uncle and some fabulous friends she has grown up so much and become a much better person than she was in her teenage years. Carson has spent most of his life in the foster care system and it definitely hasn't been easy for him now along with his foster sister Navie they are building a new life for themselves but something is missing for Carson could that something be Cassidy? I loved this book it deals with serious issues and will definitely tug at your heartstrings, I also have to say Cassidy has become my favourite character so far in this series along with an adorable 3 year old that can't pronounce her Rs. Although this book can be read as a standalone I would recommend you read in them in order staring with Scattered Colors.
This ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ARC was given to me in exchange for a honest and spoiler free review. I enjoyed this book so much that I read it in one day. I've read quite a few books from Jessica Prince that were great. But this one was Awesome. This story is not only about 2 people falling in love, it's much more than that. It's about forming strong family bonding. People can change and deserve second chances. It deals with real life issues about emotionally scared people. What an emotional roller coaster ride it was. It had everything to make it an awesome story. It was funny, sexy, entertaining, strong family bonds. Beautifully written and I strongly recommend this book. Jessica Prince left a permanent mark on my heart with this book that exceeded my expectations. The author's writing is very captivating. Her words seep through your heart and you can't help but feel very connected to these funny, loving characters. It's a standalone and has no cliffhanger but I would suggest reading Scattered colors .
This book went above and beyond any expectations I might have had. Shrinking Violet is a must read! Shrinking Violet is a follow up book to Scattered Colors. However, you do not have to read both books in order to read Shrinking Violet. Each book can be easily read as a stand alone, however I prefer reading my books in order!
When reading the synopsis to this story I wondered how in the world could Prince ever redeem such an ugly and unlovable character. Wow! Was I floored when I found myself rooting for Cassidy and praying for her to find forgiveness for her past doings. Shrinking Violet is a story of forgiveness not only from those that have been hurt, but also forgiveness from within. I loved the vulnerability Prince gave to these characters. That added bonus gave so much more depth to the story enabling you to fall hard for both Cassidy and Carson. Their chemistry was off the charts, yet sweet at the same time. I can not say enough wonderful things about this story, the characters, and the author. Truly an amazing read that you have to add to your TBR.
Scattered Colors was a wonderful read so I just knew that this second book would not disappoint. Jessica Prince is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.
Shrinking Violet follows Cassidy as she moves away from Washington and tries to get over Parker. Living on a farm Cassidy meets tons of ranch hands but meeting Carson Langford would definitely change her plans and her life. Carson wasn't looking for love, just a place to settle down for him and his little sister Navie. However he found t everything he was looking for at Willow Ranch.
This novel will grab you and pull you in at the first sentence and have you finishing in record time. Can't wait to see what Jessica Prince has coming next..
***4.5 stars*** I loved this book! It was an easy, quick read, but I really enjoyed the author's writing. This book contains a super hot guy and a single mom of a 3-year old little girl that is cuter than cute!! I can't resist a sexy man that falls head over heels for a little girl and her mom! I really enjoyed watching these two fall in love, and how they healed from their awful pasts. I have definitely found a new (to me) author, and I look forward to reading more of her work! Loved this HEA NA romance.
wow.. once Cassidy, she was a bully bitch and hatred (book 1), lessons learned. . karma return hardly to her. for 4 years try to change to be a better person. it's not easy but her Doodle Bug is her reasons for to change. but her love life grows sorrow for her insecurity. might hurt people and she doesn't deserve to be loved. Carson has issued as well as noone ever wanted him or loved him. even his own mother.
This was my first book by Jessica Prince and I really liked it. I loved how Cassidy's daughter Willow, affectionately called Doodle Bug had such a big part of the story. Making everyone around her fall in love with her and in turn drawing Cassidy and Carson together. They both have a lot to go through to get to a place where they feel like they deserve to be happy and have a loving relationship.
I loved the story of Cassidy and Carson. Overcoming your past, learning to forgive yourself, learning to love yourself and also letting other people into you life is what makes this book so wonderful. Great read.
I really wasn’t sure about this one at first since Cassidy is the heroine and I honestly couldn’t fathom how she could possibly be redeemed after the despicable things she did in the first book. But I will say.. I was pleasantly surprised.
I think it helped that this book takes place four years later. The birth of her daughter definitely changed her. She’s spent the last four years haunted by the things she did. But she deserves to be haunted because she truly devastated people in the previous book. However, I really could see how she changed and I surprisingly really liked her in this.
Honestly, I didn’t like Carson at first. He was an absolute manwhore which is my biggest turnoff in a book. Especially his thoughts of how he can only find peace by “sinking into a different woman every night”. That’s just gross. Even after he meets Cassidy, he’s totally taken with her, but he still bangs some random women in a closet in a bar. I hated that. Cassidy practically walks in on them. She’s totally turned off by it and rightly so. Luckily, he doesn’t sleep with anyone else after that.
Their relationship develops slowly but it was really sweet. I loved his relationship with her daughter. I also loved Navie (his stepsister) and how close everyone became.
Her past comes back to haunt her with avengance and when Carson finds out what she did in her past. It hits close to home because Navie is being bullied at school. Anyway, it kind of felt good to see Cassidy pay for what she did. She does truly try to make amends. It was a very satisfying conclusion and I loved the ending.
