Juliette is a young single professional who is looking for love unfortunately her dates are subpar at best. On one of those said dates she sits down at the wrong table only realising that her real date is standing at the table she sat down at. After she begs off early from her date she can’t stop thinking about Clark.
Clark is sitting at table minding his own business and then a woman who isn’t usually his type sits down in front of him he is amused by all of this but with all of his amusement he can’t seem to forget her. He doesn’t have time for relationships he has a life plan that he is working on make as much money as possible and then have kids, his outlook on life is a bit skewed.
After their first encounter they keep on seeing one another all over the place. But Clark doesn’t want a relationship so offers friends with benefits. Juliette hasn’t really lived a lot so she agrees to the idea only at some point as always feelings always start to get involved. Which here is also the case.
I wasn’t convinced on the chemistry between these two and with all the push and pull I felt as if that spark was missing.
The author in her writing style is talented and she has created a fun and sexy read with no other woman drama.
I have to admit it’s been about a week since I finished this and I’m a bit fuzzy on the details. It has been a really busy week and well I guess it could speak for the book not being that memorable but in all honesty it is me.
“You are far from normal, Juliette. I’ve never met another woman like you.”
Juliette is an English teacher, addicted to cardigans, single, with a passion for dating apps, who seeks the Prince Charming, but so far only found frogs on her way. In one night, in another date, she ends up sitting at the wrong table and meets Clark. Clark is rich, handsome, exudes sex appeal and relationships are not part of his vocabulary. When he meets Juliette, he is intrigued by this woman very different from the types he is accustomed to. After others randoms encounters in common places, Clark can not forget her and makes an indecent proposal: one night and nothing else. Juliette leads a rather monotonous life. Her love life is non-existent. Her dates, by app or arranged by her friends are getting worse. On impulse, deciding to leave her comfort zone and spice up her life, she accepts Clark's proposal. But as these two enter into this sort of casual friendship, Clark can not get her out of his head and Juliette begins to realize that casual sex is more difficult than she imagined, and feelings begin to surface. Unfortunately the reading had its good and bad moments. What could be a good novel, got lost in a sea of clichés. Juliette is weak, hesitant and without an active voice, and clearly stereotyped. Everything contributes to the creation of a dreamy girl: her cardigans, the fact that she is very nice, not imposing herself neither on her mother nor on her work friends, her cat (yes, a cat appears in the middle of the story) and the fact that seeks the ideal man and only finds bizarre suitors. In fact, the suitors shown are terrible: we have a guy completely sweaty and with greasy hair besides too cheap and that disappears in the middle of the date, one who wants sex and is an idiot in the face of the negative, one boring and tedious and so for the worse. Clark could also be better developed. We know that he is against relationships, but no motive is presented, there is nothing in his past that has traumatized him, in fact there is a contradiction in the character, because at a given moment he says that when he has children he will dedicate himself fully to them, but in the rest of the book he preaches that he does not want to get involved. Lack of coherence. The dialogues at times irritated me, and although I did not consider myself a feminist, they bothered me because they bordered on machismo. Clark is delighted with Juliette because she can have a conversation with him. According to the protagonist this is rare, since 80% of women only have breasts and ass. Juliette's aunt, the rabbit story and the final date planned by Juliette were the best parts of the book. The couple presented interesting moments, truth be told, some scenes were funny and relevant, but in general the perfect chemistry was not enough to hold the plot. What a pity. Unfortunately this Juliette could not make me fall in love with her Romeo. There was something missing.
* Received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. ** Actual rating 2.5 stars.
Juliette is a high school English teacher who is an avid user of online dating apps in search of her Prince Charming. All she seems to have found are absolute duds who usually leave her with a less than memorable first date. On yet another first date, in a bar that was almost impossible to find, Juliette sits down at a table with a man who scolds her for being late. She’s annoyed but slightly intrigued at this handsome man in front of her.
Two minutes later, her real date shows up and she realizes she sat down with a man named Clark by accident. Of course, they keep running into each other. And eventually Clark proposes they have a friends with benefits arrangement because neither can seem to get each others minds off the other.
This book was pretty short, and because of that, neither Juliette nor Clark were characters who were all that developed. Juliette was a basic heroine with nothing much to her and Clark was afraid of relationships with no real reason behind it. Usually the guys have some trauma of a previous relationship that messed them up real bad. Clark just wants to sleep around and never get attached.
The romance for me fell pretty flat. I didn’t feel the chemistry between Juliette and Clark at all. I wasn’t invested and wasn’t their biggest cheerleader like I would be for the couples in romance books I’m reading. Even the sex scenes were a little bland for me. There was nothing about their love story that kept me on the edge of my seat.
The plot somewhat confused me in the sense that the bunnies thing from the synopsis wasn’t a part of the story until really late in the novel. I kept trying to figure out what bunnies had to do with anything, or if it was supposed to be a cat because there was a sign that involved a cat earlier in the novel.
Overall, this was a romance novel that wasn’t anything to write home about. The writing was good, but the plot and the chemistry just fell flat for me.
There are no straight lines when it comes to love. It's the detours that keep things interesting. Passarelli dares to be interesting. With humor, heart and honest emotion Fortunate Encounters is that melt in your heart kind of treat. Juliette is a woman with the world at feet until she discovers fate has other plans. A chance encounter has lasting repercussions for two unknowing strangers. Clark and Juliette remind that there is more to life than the serious moments. Sometimes life calls for stirring things up.
The first book of “The Signs” Series, Fortunate Encounters is a romantic comedy with a sassy protagonist and a charming guy.
Juliette goes on a date and ends up sitting at the wrong table. That’s when she meets the guy he can’t keep her mind off- Clark.
Juliette is your average confused, somewhat annoying, over-thinking and believe-in-morals sort of gal. So when she agrees to be “Friends with Benefits” with Clark, she is naturally way out of comfort zone.
Clark, another average super-rich, gets his way around, and no relationships guy. But he finds himself strangely attracted to Juliette and that’s when the chasing and ignoring game stars.
What I Liked: Juliette’s character has been well written. The plot is simple with a lot of people throwing in views here and there. The other characters, however, have very little screen time, focussing solely on Juliette and her guy. The sex scenes are kept short and a there is a lot of sweet romance going on. The plot is great btw, a classic Romantic Comedy.
What I didn’t like: The sex scenes are repetitive, just the surface on which they have sex is different. I think I needed more Clark but his point of view has not been explored much.
Overall, Fortunate Encounters kept me upbeat because it is hilarious, romantic and very adorable.
It’s not that this book was bad necessarily but it just wasn’t that good either 😅 the characters were annoying, the scenarios were cliche in a bad way and the main thing is that I didn’t feel anything while reading this book! I want invested in the characters or relationship
Juliette is a high school English teacher who is struggling to find love. She is having terrible luck with online dating and one night, she shows up for a date, late, and sits at the wrong table. She meets Clark, who intrigues her.
Clark is not interested in relationships. He is the CEO of a consulting firm. However, Juliette gets under his skin and he can't stop thinking about her.
Clark and Juliette run into each other across Manhattan, which should be a sign. Clark proposes a friends with benefits scenario, which Jules is not interested in. She wants a relationship. She turns down the offer.
Then she keeps running into him. Turns out that Clark is the nephew of Jules mentor. Juliette goes to her eccentric aunt and takes a crystal and asks the universe for a sign - and her sign is bunnies.
The sign part of this story was a little lame and far fetched, but sort of cute. I liked Juliette a lot. She was a fun character. Clark was not developed as well and was hard to understand. We didn't have a ton of backstory on him.
This is a short book. I read it in one evening. It was a cute story with a satisfying ending and an epilogue!
As anyone who has spent any time in the shark infested waters of the dating pool over a certain age can attest, it's slim pickings. I felt for our heroine in Fortunate Encounters; I can't tell you how many horrible dates I've been on where I secretly wished to have set down at a different table. Lol
Juliette is a middle age school teacher unlucky in love. She's beginning to realize how boring her life has become and she's trying to spice things up. After a series of disastrous dates via a dating app, she finds herself sitting down at the wrong table at a bar with a man who she quickly learns is WAY more intriguing than her real date. Even in the few short minutes that she sat with the mystery man, he got under her skin and she can't stop thinking of him days later.
Clark was ending his day the usual way, reading the paper at his local "Cheers" when a fascinating woman suddenly appears. She's not his usual type but he's instantly drawn to her. Sadly she wasn't there to stay as her real date quickly comes to steal her away. Clark watches her, deeply interested for the first time in forever. Alas, he doesn't do relationships and he's never the one to chase someone. But as they keep running into each other in unlikely places, he can't help making an unorthodox proposal to the lovely, fiesty Juliette. He's convinced a few evenings beneath the sheets with her will rid him of a rapidly developing addiction to her.
This was a short, sassy, easy read. I enjoyed it but if I'm entirely honest, I wasn't entirely convinced these two even liked each other for the majority of the book so the chemistry didn't develop for me as much as I'd like. The author did a good job of making me wonder about the characters but they were kind of forgettable once I set the book down. They were interesting but I wasn't captivated by them. I did laugh a few times but mostly because I understand the depth of the dating pool these days is about the depth of a mud puddle so I completely got Juliette's frustration. Cute read, good story to start up the series. Eve's up next!
The blurb for this book had me smiling and piqued my curiosity. I've read, and enjoyed, this Author before so I didn't hesitate when the opportunity to read this book presented itself. This book had me laughing and sighing and I enjoyed it overall.
Juliette's misfortune with men made me chuckle. Once upon a time I dealt with the world of online dating so I knew her struggle. I thought she was smart and fun; the type of character I could be friends with. I was really pulling for her to find her HEA.
Clark rubbed me the wrong way initially. I don't know how to pinpoint it but there was something that just held me back from him a bit. I did wind up liking him, but it took me a bit longer to connect than I expected.
I did believe in the attraction between Juliette and Clark. I thought they connected well, even when they thought they wanted different things. I liked seeing what they brought out in each other.
I thought the plot here was fresh and fun. The writing flowed well and the pacing worked just fine. This was a quick, fun read for me and I enjoyed it. I recommend this book and look forward to what this Author comes up with next.
I received a review copy of the book before release for an honest review.
This a new author for me and it a little different than I expected.
This book stars Clark, and Juliet. Juliet wants to find love very badly and she goes on ALOT of bad dates. At one date she mistakes Clark for her blind date and that begins their sorta friendship. They have a loose family connection so when they run into each other again, the lust takes over and wants a friends with benefits relationship.
But Juliet wants love and so she ducks Clark and goes on more dates which were totally a crack up. But she needs to make a stand and tell Clark what she really wants. There are lots of HOT scenes in this book. But her and Clark only really get together at 90% and once they do we don't see much of their relationship and falling in love which to me is the best park, so that was disappointing for me.
The epilogue I loved because it shows you how their future looks. But I really love seeing relationships grow and I missed not seeing that. This book is part of the bunnies series and for Juliet that was a sign she gave herself that she should take the risk with Clark even thought he was anti relationships.
I've read all of Caterina's books. I am also on her ARC team. As soon as I received the book I downloaded and started right in. Cat is an excellent writer. There were no obvious typos, which seems like a silly thing to notice but I do. She creates an excellent world that you have no choice to get wrapped up in. I read last night til my eyes were crossing and had to call it a night. Juliette is an amazing woman, strong though you can relate to her on a friend level. Clark is definitely a cocky bastard but not without endearing qualities. I will say this story is shorter than Caterina's other books and it definitely left me wanting more. But it was a great easy read with a HEA. I really enjoyed reading and being a part of this new story!
This was my first book by this author and I'll definitely be reading her again and more from this series. Juliet wants love so very badly and on her way to finding it she goes a lot of bad dates so so many it's hilarious. In one date she mistakes Clark as her blind date and they form a friend ship. They have a familiar connection so they run in together again and that chemistry they had the first time got a them again. But Clark isn't looking for anything long term he just wants friends with benfits. So Juliet keeps saying trying to find love which I can't stress enough was definitely the universe telling her to stop. But she can't keep Clark of her mind. This is Definitely a hot book but a slow burn type!
This is the first in a new series, and this is Clark and Juliette’s story. Clark is wealthy and handsome, while Juliette is an English teacher who is looking for love. Juliette sits down at the wrong table on a date, and Clark is amused about this. One chance encounter, and these two keep encountering each other all over town. Clark wants a friends-with-benefit arrangement, while Juliette wants more. This is a good story which is light-hearted, with emotions, humor, and love, which leads to a sweet and enjoyable page turner. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend.
Juliette accidentally sits at the wrong table while on a blind date and mistakes Clark for her date. Through a series of "Fortunate Encounters" the two slow but surely move toward a HEA.
I liked the book. It was a fun concept and an easy read. The characters were likable, mostly. Clark was a little to jerky for me. I get was the author was going for with him, but I couldn't decide if he was a wealthy butthole or a frat boy with an attitude. Juliette was great. She was true to form from start to finish. I felt the writing was a little basic and that Passarelli could have beefed up the story a bit more.
Overall, a good read, but it left me want a little more. (I wanted the I love you moment!)
This is, on the whole, a pleasant read. It is reasonably short, and I think that as a result, the character development is a little limited. However, given the word count, the author has delivered characters with sufficient depth to carry the story.
And the story premise is executed with a decent shot of humour and chemistry between the two main characters, even if I'm not particularly enamoured with Clark's arrogance.
Not a bad way to pass a couple of hours.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
That was short. Wow I didn't expect it to end so fast. The conversations between the MCs were really fun and flirty and i liked it. But i didn't feel like Clark had any character development to the end too while Juliette did seem to have changed a little. But it felt like there was hardly any storyline or plot and even if there was it was very less abd just like a small stepping stone compared to what a normal story is made up of. I gave this a 2.5 stars because it didn't feel like a full 3 stars at all.
This is Clark and Juliette's story..a story that starts as a chance encounter when Juliette finds the wrong man for a date..and suddenly he keeps popping up everywhere! This two amused me..but at times annoyed me too. There were a few things that didn't add up and while I read it and ejoyed it, I feel like different dialogues or characters with deeper traits ( don't know how else to say it lol) would have made the story more enjoyable!
This is the first read that I have had by Caterina Passarelli and it was so much fun! I loved the dynamic between Clark and Juliette! This was hilarious book with romance added in. This is the classic story of that one date that you can't get rid of and that you can keep off your mind. Get ready to read this fun and flirty tale of the clash of wills between to strong characters. I cant wait to read the next books!
So I have mixed feelings about this book. While it was a love story and had a happy ending. I feel a bit lost, maybe sad that I didnt get more. Clark and Juliette wouldn’t even cuddle after you know, like I wanted more. It had a wonderful storyline, and it had happy moments but when they got together it was basically over. But it was a quick happy ever after read.
Fate really has a way of putting people together even if those people are too stubborn to see the signs. Juliette and Clark are adorable! Constantly bickering and challenging each other, you can't help but fall in love with both of their minds. Love the book
I don't know if the writer is secretly a man or just writes very unlikable characters. The mfc is judgemental and the mmc is a douche. All the smacks she talks about men and she won't put up with it and then goes out with the walking red flag and is ok with all the same thing just because he is hot? Pass.
Enjoyed the banter back and forth between the main characters but felt she was a little all over the place in her decisions for me. They did have some hot scenes between them. Loved the concept but parts of it were a bit annoying for me.
I loved this book. There were times I laughed and times i waited for the dramatic pause. It was a very good story. It also seemed very realistic. I can't wait for the next book in the series. Definitely recommend this book.
I loved it! The attraction between Juliette and Clark was there immediately, it just took a little time for them to act on it. The slow burn story line was great! I love this author and I can wait to read about Eve and her pathway to love!
I loved Juliette and Clarke. This story was so fun to read, I couldn’t put it down. The banter between them had me cracking up. It’s a fun read I recommend it to everyone. Try it, you will enjoy it :)
Really enjoyed this book! Caterina’s writing style is literally my favourite and I get lost in her books until I’ve finished and want more. Love Clark and Juliette’s relationship but wish there was more to there story. And got to love a wacky aunt!
Fun with a side of kinky. Very enjoyable read, I love that the storyline was drawn out over a period of time. I always struggle with love stories that happen in a month. The main characters are likeable without being over the top.
