Skye West is a college student, with big, unusual to become a mangaka, a Japanese comic artist. She's fine with working, hanging out with her friends, and fulfilling her dreams page after page; after surviving an abusive relationship, a guy didn't fit into that picture, and she was fine with it, but Kaito Nakamura disagreed. Skye learns to open her heart again to someone who truly deserves it, and never looks back.
Being from the Bay Area I truly enjoy the atmosphere of the book taking place in SF than later Vegas. I made me feel apart of the storyline and the push and pull of their relationship felt relationship building authentic. The realistic nature of the book was heart-warming with the problems and issues the couple faced during the essential relationship. Skye and Kaito are my new favorite couple! Congratulations and I hope to read more about this couple soon and their friends!
The book had good bones. The premise of the story was good, I like how multicultural the group of friends was. However although I am a visual person, the book got lost in too much description at times. Unless you’re from San Francisco or reading with a map, the description of the trip from point A to point B was just too much. Same thing for the Vegas trip. I would have preferred for the author to scratch below the surface of what it really means to be in an interracial relationship. Merging their lives, finding a place together etc.. The premise was Skye wanting to be a Mangaka but the book got cut off before she got published. Reading about her dealing with the “fame” being an introvert, traveling to Tokyo with Takio, being successful being non Japanese would have made for a more interesting book. Same thing them dealing with both of them being successful professionals etc.. I could see his love for her and he was really patient and made the effort. However I really wish the author portrayed a heroine with more of a backbone. For someone who wanted to be a Mangaka I was surprised that she hadn’t learned Japanese before. Given who she was and her aspirations, one would have thought that she would have tougher skin. Letting Takio go because his mother was rude was just silly. I understand her insecurities but after more than 9 months of relationship, for her not to even have a proper discussion with him, to strategize was childish. That was disappointing to me. I would like to read the other couples story in particular Naia and Matthew.
I guess my review would be completely bias since I can relate so well to the protagonist and the obstacles she has to go through with interracial dating - as well as aspiring to be a mangaka. I feel like she is me, and I never related so well to a character until now. The pacing of Skye and Kaito's relationship blossoming is almost exactly like a shoujo manga due to the fact of her finding it hard to fall in love with someone, and Kaito taking his time to slowly get to know her. It works so perfectly. I internally scream everytime they have a moment together, and finding how cute it is whenever Kaito calls her "Skye-chan." Her best friends are also people that I aspire to have. I also loved the fact that the author explained different places and events in San Francisco. It was almost like a tour guide in a way. This book is a guilty pleasure for me, and I will honestly say that this is definitely one of my favorite books in a long time. I hope that A.C. Amaryllis succeeds in becoming a famous author! She needs more credit!

I really enjoyed this story. Kaito & Skye showed that you have to choose love & once you have chosen, as a couple you actively participate in the process of growing your relationship. I am a San Francisco native & I went to school in the Mission hung at Dolores Park & knew many of the sights & sounds of the city that I love & continue to live in. Kaito. & Skye 's friends reminded me of my group of friends from high school and college. Thank you A.C. Amyloid for a walk down memory lane with this engaging story.
At times, rather for most of it actually. It read like a young adult shoujo/josei Manga. I felt like the heroine had more of a relationship with the environment than the hero. Aaand...I know she was hurt by her previous relationships but seriously if she looked down at her feet and shuffled them here or there one more time. My goodness. Also felt no depth of character from anyone of the characters but I do know how to get around in the Bay area, what the kids are wearing these days, and what restaurants to go to.
If you like a love story drama you like this . is a great love story and I really enjoy the characters sky's friends there faithfulness to each other . The respect for family sky had was quite lovely and refreshing this was a really refreshing and great read
If your looking for good read set in reality this is it . A great love story about the blending of 2 cultures. It shows a true courtship with a real gentleman and strong a connection that can occur when its given time to grow naturally. Not a unrealistic love at first sight instant love story.
It took a while to pick up the pace was incredibly slow at times. I don't like how easily Skye left Kaito after everything but I'm glad she went back and apologized although it wasn't until after his mom came to see her. But I thought Skye and Kaito was super cute and sweet together. I'd give this author another read.
The book doesn't immediately pull you in but it catches enough of your attention for you to continue. I love how real the story was. No extra to make it interesting. Like reading how your parents got together instead of watching a soap opera.
Awww Kaito .... Kaito was so patient, kind and hot. I loved how this romance btw Skye and Kaito bloomed into true love . This was a great read and the love scenes did not disappoint ,
This is a good read. Enjoyable. The author's writing style is refreshing. The location description, character development along with inter-racial issues were described well. I will try another story by this author.
The Good: No Millioniar/Billionaire, Mafia or Royalty The Bad: The writing wasn’t great, dialogue was confusing. I admire the writer for trying to prolong the story but 100 pages of unnecessary descriptions could have made to story better
It was an adorable story. The main characters are very innocent. Good for new romance readers. Few twists or surprises. A little editing is needed. I'd let my teenager read it.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a slow burn romance so there was lots of character development and friendship prior to the romance and subsequent intimate scenes.
When Skye saw a handsome young Japanese man on the bus....she noted his good looks and even added his image to her sketches...then suddenly she seemed to see him EVERYWHERE! They eventually formally met and became friends. Baggage from an earlier relationships and his mother's lack of acceptance almost ended their courtship. Kaito was my favorite character in the book but unfortunately we get the story totally from Skye's perspective. He was an awesome boyfriend.... Kind and genuine.... This is in my first book by this author and I really enjoyed her leisurely writing style.
I never take 3 days to read a novel and honestly this was not that long but OMG. The constant description of every characters clothing, hair, or location was done ad nauseam. I had to keep taking breaks from the book or skim through those areas. The Main characters relationship was on a low boil until the last couple of chapters which I don't mind and the pace suited the characters dispositions. If it were not for the excessive description the novel itself would have gotten 5 stars and it would definetly be added to my AMBW reading list.
As others have pointed out, this moved too slow. Plus too much detail was given to side characters wardrobe, living spaces, and the h's route to work or whenever she stepped foot outside her apartment. I like slow burns but the set up, pace for this seems it would take forever for the h and H to even go out on a date, since the h has no interest in dating. I have patience but not that much patience.
