She may not have the pop cultural heft of her heyday, but Tank Girl's never gone away, as witness this celebration of three decades of punky shenanigans. Alan Martin is still writing, with Jamie Hewlett contributing; other artists include those who came from the same milieu (the great Philip Bond), alongside those from further afield (Jim Mahfood, Greg Staples). A few of the stories attempt some manner of reckoning with what it means for a character so associated with youthful irreverence to have reached middle age, if only off the page; most of them know that if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and concentrate more on mucky jokes and stuff blowing up. I've noted before how the review quotes chosen for the cover of comics collections can often be incredibly unhelpful, but in this instance you can learn a lot from the fact that one of the three they went with was "Like Mahfood, Wahl does a very nice arse."

In true tankgirl fashion it is a bonkers series of nonsense wrapped in a heartwarming pile of shit, with a slice of custard.

Always a joy to read tankgirl, very enjoyable.

Art is fantastic; jokes are silly; plot(s) okay. Full of in-jokes and nostalgia for the long-time audience.

Can't put my finger on it

Is it the humor, is it the graphic art, is it, the spirit of the characters, is it the stories? I love it!
