A Childhood Filled With Lies And Abuse, Do You Really Get Over That...

What a chilling tale, told in a way that you can not retreat, you must continue reading to find answers to a past a few young girls are unable to forget...
Tracy Collier is a Detective Inspector, forced to see in crime scenes the demons she tries to hide from everyone in her life. She uses different masks, personas she takes on, one with her boyfriend, one with her staff. The real Tracey remains hidden, until some new murders bring things out that feel like they are meant for her. She sees a therapist, finally giving in, hoping he will be able to help her work everything out. But their talk goes far beyond help, as he Knows things that happened, things only one person could tell him!
You can feel every seedy detail, as if happening to you, as someone is set on Tracy explaining 'All Those Lies '! A mind blowing story written in a spectacular way, all who enjoy a psychological thriller NEED to read!!

This is the first book in the D.I. Tracy Collier crime series. Tracy’s character, as with most detective’s characters, has a troubled past, leaving them flawed. Whilst most authors tend to feed drip us information slowly over the course of a few books in a series, we get to know all the nitty gritty right in this book.

What a past Tracy has had as well. It was awful reading of her childhood and what she went though. My heart went out to her and I could understand the hardened exterior she shows the rest of the world.

Not only do we get to learn of Tracy’s past, but we also have a very sick and twisted killer on the lose killing innocent people. I was desperate to find out the who and why and when all is revealed, will it doesn’t come more shocking than in this novel.

All Those Lies is a dark and at times, disturbing read that you can’t help but be drawn right into. Tracy’s background made this even more of a compulsive and page turner of a read. I thought it was a great start to a new crime series to me and can’t wait to see what is next in the series.

I have to say this is one of the best books, if not the best book I've ever read. If you love the TV programme No Offence you'll definitely enjoy this one.

Tracy Collier is one of the best characters I've ever read, her development throughout the book was amazing as each layer was discovered.

Brutal murders are happening that Tracy and her team have to solve. I really don't want to say more as to do so would give the plot away.

Tracy has a secret past that she has fought hard to hide over the years, but all that is about to change now and the results will blow your mind.

Good and engaging written.
Very unusual and interesting heroine.
I enjoy reading thrillers, but not because of the crime, but of the justice and punishment for villains and for good and brave main characters.
Well, it wasn’t exactly the case here.
When a story deals with one of the most abhorrent and disgusting themes ever – pedophilia, I don’t expect a heroine, who despite being a policewoman to do NOTHING for 14 years to stop her pedophile father. WTF??? She escaped, became a policewoman, but with her passivity she ‘encouraged’ him to (probably) molest other children?
And what a therapist would stick to a client confidentially, when his client confirms to be a pedophile and to rape his daughter??? Are there no laws to break the confidentiality, if it would save a child’s life????

All this made me mad, very mad. They killed bad guys at the end, but they didn’t deserve such easy and quick death!!! Pedophiles deserve(d) to suffer for ages, to be put in a prison for decades and to be tortured/r*ped on a daily basis.

I will try the 2nd book, but I doubt this heroine could ever gain my respect. She suffered so much and I sincerely sorry for her – no child should be hurt, no single one! – but she was a copper, she could have stopped her abuser! Was she mentally instable? If yes, why didn’t anyone by the police noticed it?
Why? Why? Why?
Too many unanswered questions.

This author has a huge potential IMO. I would gladly read all her books, but I need moral, hope and justice.

Oh I do love the start of a new series and an exciting new author to me, this one is going to be one to watch out for.

DI Tracy Collier has a past that she would rather bury, but as she investigates several brutal murders, memories from her past begin to haunt her.

All Those Lies is exciting and full of suspense and fast paced with some amazing lead characters and I can’t wait to get to know more about them in the next DI Tracy Collier book.

I feel this new series will appeal to fans of two of my favourite authors, Angela Marsons and M.J. Arlidge and I highly recommend everyone to get this book and treat yourselves to a new series from the start.

I so wanted to give this a better rating but I felt like I'd joined the book in the middle of the story - there seemed to be so much missing I even checked it wasn't the second in a series. Far fetched plot. There's so much better out there. Disappointed

I did not enjoy this book one little bit yet there were 5 stars everywhere. The title gives the new reader a pretty good clue. One review stated this was the best book they had ever read. Some readers are easily pleased. The book totally centres around the main character, DI Tracy Collier, a DI at 32 despite the enormous hurdles she had to climb over to get there! She is not a likeable character and even less so at the end. I find difficulty in dealing with pedophilia, familia incest even more so though this book managed to marry the two together towards the end. The ending to me was really awful and I think that maybe those final chapters were an after thought by the author to make a truly gruesome story even more so.

I cannot say whether the author is a very good one or not. I do not like her style e.g. the DI's thoughts being written like speech. That is totally acceptable, as it is in most books, but on every page? The structure of the story was such that it overwhelmed anything else like the writing. UK crime writing is similar in almost every way. It is usually gruesome and involves serial killers. This is no exception though it lifts the bar. If you do your reading, like many people do, at bedtime, then give this one a miss, or read it during the day.

This was a great fast paced read full of secret and hidden truths that will make you open your mouth due to the shock!
Ms. Ellis created a character with a horrible past that will have to go down the road of her past that was supposed to stay forgotten. What secrets will be revealed, what had happened when she was a child? The narrating style is unique and unusual!
This is not a read for faint-hearted due to some triggers.

What can I really day about this book.  It has the feel of on of the creepiest stories.
It had such a strange feel to it and really shows just what this series will have in store for me.
Tracy Collier has such a strong personality and it seems like such a dark past that will come back on her.
What I really like about this is that its darker than most of my standard reads.  It has such high potential the series and it shines a light on darker aspects.

I love a good stonking crime read with a multi-dimensional female lead who is far from perfect. You know the ones: they make mistakes, they break the rules, they lose their s**t sometimes - in other words, they're human.

Enter Tracy Collier - A Detective Inspector who finds herself with a spate of murders on her hands. Each victim has been brutally killed and posed. Except, as time passes, Tracy begins to recognize messages the killer has clearly left - for her.

Could the killings be linked to her own life? Even worse, could the murderer be someone Tracy knows?
And how does this connect to Tracy's horrific past?

The author skillfully peels back the layers of Tracy's past. It wasn't pretty, far from it. At times it made for very uncomfortable reading as you slowly figured out what had happened to our heroine. There is a particular scene that gave me a real churning in the pit of my stomach - exactly what I expect of a good crime novel. If it doesn't get me in the gut, then it isn't good.

This wasn't just good - it was great.

I can't wait to hear more from DI Tracy Collier.

Fantastic!

I gave this book five stars because it gripped me from the very beginning, the characters were likeable and very believable, as was the story itself. I was kept completely engaged from start to finish, I desperately wanted to find out what happened, but at the same time didn't want the book to end. I feel a bit lost now that I've finished it. There was also a smattering of humour throughout which I loved. I cannot wait for book 2 to come out!
Anyone who likes suspense/mystery will love this book.

All Those Lies is a brilliant piece of crime fiction. As a murder mystery fan, I'm usually good at picking up on plot twists, but I didn't see the end coming at all!

DI Tracy Collier is not wholly likeable, which is unusual when most writers try to make their main character's appealing to the reader. However, her character flaws are intrinsic to the back story, and was so fabulously written that I want to read more about her life, and why she's like she is. I was unsure about Damon as well at first, and his relationship with Tracy, but they seem to balance each other out. I'm not sure if their relationship will last, and it will be interesting to see how it goes in the following books.

Overall All Those Lies is a fresh take on the crime genre. It's gritty and dark, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys books by the likes of Martina Cole and Ian Rankin.

This is a fantastic start to a new series and I look forward to reading more from this author. The story is quite a harrowing read in places but all essential to the plot. I have to say that the ending is one of the best I have read in a long time. A gripping book and one I would recommend.

Normally I prefer my crimes not to be all about the main characters' pasts but I kept getting this book recommended to me and so I eventually capitulated and gave it a go. And you know what, despite my reservations, I actually really rather enjoyed it. So much so that I already have the next two in the series lined up ready to go.
In this series opener we meet DI Tracy Collier (yay, a normally named character!). She's a bit, well, abrasive isn't quite the right word but it'll do for now. She's in a relationship with one of her team, something I wasn't too fond of at the start but which also grew on me as the book went on. She's on the case of a couple of related killings. All different but having one main similarity. A similarity that eventually causes Tracy to revisit her own, rather sad, past. But is the Therapist she goes to really going to be able to help her both face her demons and, at the same time, enable her to solve the killings? It really does all get a bit personal for her...
I really connected to Tracy from the off, despite my early misgivings. Probably cos I see a lot of the way I react to certain situations and scenarios reflected in her. Gosh, her inner dialogue at time was a little close to home, even though we don't share the same past. It really was a tad uncomfortable at times but, on reflection, made for a more real character and indeed a better overall read.
It's not for the faint hearted as both the crimes depicted in the book and indeed Tracy's backstory are both very heinous and no punches are pulled in describing them. Not for sensationalism I hasten to add, just to get them across on the page.
The story went along at a great lick with no superfluous waffle or padding and with enough description to complement but not too much to distract. Characters were excellently drawn and came across as completely real - and yes, there was some excellent banter and interaction between them - another of my favourite things in a book.
All in all, a great series opener which really did hit the ground running and, with the way things wrapped up, you know that there will be some really great fallout to be had from subsequent books.

Detective Inspector Tracy Collier has dreadful memories of her younger self, locked away in the recesses of her mind. She has blocked it out, to transform herself into a successful and confident hardcore DI, as a result.

The latest callout, a body hanging from rafters in a barn, gutted and innards on display. The modus operandi, similar to a discovery of the previous week, setting the scene of a serial killer at work.

The detail of a very well written plot in "All Those Lies", by author Emmy Ellis, pulls the reader into a tale of gruesome murders, intrigue and heartbreak. It is a Hard-boiled Mystery in which DI Tracy Collier is compelled to face, and slay the demons of her childhood. Lies forced in her past will now follow Tracy into her future, but at least she doesn't have to constantly wonder, live in fear, and look over her shoulder anymore.

Brilliantly written, I really enjoyed reading "All Those Lies" by Emmy Ellis, and highly recommend this book. I have just acquainted myself with DI Bethany Smith, another Series by Emmy Ellis, and is positively hooked on this author.

"All Those Lies" receives a 5 Star ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rating from BookCRITICO!

DI Tracy Collier is heading an investigation into the murders of several men who have been gutted and then posed. Could the murders be somehow linked to her past?

This is quite a short book, which I read in a couple of sessions. It is difficult to read sometimes, dealing with the subject of paedophilia. I don’t think I liked the main character, DI Collier, who was trying to deal with demons from her past whilst also trying to do her job. Could a police inspector really sit back for years and do nothing to try to stop her paedophile father from abusing other children? I appreciate that the traumas of her past affected her judgement but still!

I really couldn’t make my mind up about this book and hovered between a rating of 3 and 4 stars. It isn't a bad book and Ms Ellis obviously has talent as a writer so I will give Tracy Collier #2 a read.

A series of brutal murders lead a police detective back to her childhood of abuse. This is an ugly story populated with unlikeable characters. It was a chore to read the first half. Tracy, the detective, is unpleasant notwithstanding a sympathetic back story. It is outlandish really but the second half picks up and the end is satisfying. The British slang gets annoying and I can't say I liked Tracy any better at the end than I did at the beginning. basically, a breakneck ride through a sewer, more exciting than that might sound. 2.5 stars

A new author for me and the first book in her DI Tracy Collier series. Not a long story but just enough to pack in some great writing with lots of punch. The story introduces the characters into the book really well, it will be interesting to see how they develope throughout the series. Quite a bloody read but not too gory, more emphasis was on the psychological side of the investigation which worked well with the plot. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

DI Tracy Collier is a tough cookie & runs a tight ship, especially when her team are on the hunt for a serial killer. Amidst the turmoil of events, Collier is fighting her own demons & fears that the past may come back to haunt her. Riveting reading from the start, Ellis has moulded her characters well & it’s easy to get a sense of the fear & frustration that plays out between them. My first read by this author has certainly impressed me & I shall be purchasing more in the series.

Not sure, disturbing, horrific storyline. There were times I nearly dumped the book, but I'm a sucker for wanting to know if good triumphs. Wasn't sure if it was a 3 or 4 star rating for me. But gave it 4 anyway. The author has talent, but I'll probably not follow the series, escapism is my theme not horror. Just a small afterthought in case someone decides to read this review, the subject matter is disturbing and horrific, not the writing nor is it gratuitous or exploitative.

Chilling

Turns and twists abound in this story. The main character is a police woman with a horrendous past. Her efforts to put her horrid childhood behind her begin to unravel as she investigates a serial killer.

This is a real page-turner that I could not put down. The ending was very satisfying.

No problem recommending this book.

Gave this a three because I'm not sure how I feel about it. DI Tracy Collier is working a case of murder that is giving clues drawing her too close to her own hidden past. She fights her way through doing her job while trying to find answers without being drawn back to her abuser. The end is a shocker.

This is the first time we are introduced to DI with a abusive past. We see the effects child abuse in 2 different ways and Emmy Ellis did a brilliant job in describing those in detail.

What would you do if you feel a killer is tormenting you and trying to drag you back into the past. Read and find out.

As per the authors theme - there are twists added in too.

A brilliant read

Dark criminal twists

This was a mentally tough book to endure due to mainly similar thoughts of the victim cop and her killer sisters last 2 justified (in my opinion) killings but it is quite the page turner addicted to the end very good and not the average crime thriller. Also liked how it pulls in the dirty cop we all know every station has dealt with at least 1.

Where can I start with a review of this one?

While reading, I found myself mentally deleting all of the cliches and unnecessary words, thinking - why hadn’t this book been edited before going to the publisher?

It could have been a decent enough story line, but the manner in which it was written was appalling .

So glad this was a free book!

not for me

Oh Deary Deary me why oh why when you read a lot of police novels the author feels swearing and profanity are acceptable. In my opinion, they’re not. It totally spoils it for me. I’ve read other ones free from it so why now? Anyway, I’m not reading any more of what I thought was going to be an excellent read!

Imperfect DI solves a strange case

Tracy has problems and memories of a demented childhood. She is also the lead detective investigating a series of murders. Told from a couple perceptions (Tracy and the murderer), the story of past abuse becomes twisted again and again. It is an interesting tale, not your normal cops and robbers story.

Fantastic

This is an absolutely brilliantly written book, I could not put it down. I can usually figure out what is going to happen in a book, but with this book, there is a very clever twist. It is fair to say I shall be downloading more books by Emmy Ellis.
