Mira Stables is the author of many historical fiction novels, including The Byram Succession, The Swynden Necklace, and Golden Barrier.
I am so glad for my free copy of any book written by this author for she is one of the best writers of Regency and Historical romances I have come across. Her main characters embody the most noble of traits without being too good to be true and her heroes are not so debauched and jaded and yet still remain as manly as any romance reader could ever wish for. There is pathos yet it does not become maudlin just heart~warming with a dash of pragmatism.
The story revolves around 22~year~old Charmian, who (though she had the best education a gentlewoman of her class could ever have) has not had her debut and thus can not yet marry having not met any gentleman of her own class. But then what is her class? Learning just before her mother's death that she is not her mother's daughter but was abandoned into Bel Tracy's care, she then sets out to Medhurst to right a wrong. Even Bel Tracy's story is as interesting as Charmian's own. This is beautifully written and with enough drama to make for a well~satisfying read.
Easy reading. Not the standard marriage mart romance. Very naive 22 year-old Charmian sets off on a journey to return an inheritance and seek guidance in finding her true identity. However, she is not so naive to easily believe insincere would-be suitors. As a pragmatist, I did wonder that the greatest clue to Charmian's identity, her locket, was not employed. Other jewelry is loaned to her instead.
3.5⭐ Friends and Relations is a very short, simple, well written novella that offers very little new , the mystery that is the identity of our h is resolved very quickly, we have a H and h that you tend to like but you're not very invested in and to be honest you don't really care much about either. The book is something that you can read expecting nothing.
A little different from other Mira Stables novels I’ve read but just as enjoyable. Well rounded, believable characters and a plot that kept me guessing. Quite exciting at the denouement! A very enjoyable read.
Perfection in creating the characters, scenes, plot, and romance. The exquisite use of language from that time period and before is top notch! This author has a beautiful grip of English words.
