Angelique and Joffrey's venture to Quebec is not without its difficulties, but there is triumph in the end - a kind of pardon from Louis XIV that means they are not strictly enemies of New France, given the necessity of relying on your neighbors to help you through those tough winters, where even the Indians have difficulty surviving.

And, thanks to the pardon, their sons Florimond and Cantor opt to go to France along with their friend, the governor's son, to make their fortunes, and so the family's ties to the throne of France continue.
