The Works Selected Poems

Rate this book
The Works collects together over 120 of Pam Ayres's best-known and loved poems - as well as all of her newest compositions. The selection includes all Pam's personal favourites which she has divided into twelve sections covering subjects such as love, motherhood, families, gardening, ecology, travel and animals as well as many more unusual topics like climbing Ayers Rock in Australia, the rigours of keeping sheep and the finer points of the Old Gloucester Sausage. Pam's unique form of humorous verse takes a new look at the joys and tribulations of daily life. Her observations are touching, honest and above all inspired by a sense of the gentle absurdity of ordinary events. The Works is the best of the work which has made Pam Ayres a worldwide celebrity and bestselling poet. This edition of Pam Ayres - The Works has been updated to feature a new jacket and foreword by Pam Ayres.

I've always loved Pam Ayres since I first saw her on UK TV as a child, which was many moons ago, hehehe. This collection of her poems had me laughing all the way through. For someone looking for a lift when feeling down I would recommend this book as a way to cheer yourself up.

A mixed reaction to this one. On the one hand it has some belting and very funny poems that elicit laugh out loud responses, Ayres' sense of humour is great. However on the other hand there are a lot of quite ridiculous and nonsensical poems that tell a strange story but aren't quite on the same level as her funny poems. It's worth a read but I wouldn't say it's a keeper for me, sorry to say.

I absolutely love Pam Ayres!! When driving long distance and everyone is asleep I listen to her poems! I love her accent!! Her poems are so funny and then her reciting them is fantastic listening. I originally bought the book because I wanted the words to 'How god made the duck billed Platypus' and got a wealth of enjoyment from reading the whole book!! I am not sure if my hubby enjoyed me reciting all these poems..but he smiled and nodded and made it look like he was interested!!

Some of my favorites would be

Thoughts of a late night knitter
Puddings, a slice of nostalgia
Ooh and many more.. I will have to grab the book out again the remember the names
