Secrets. Lies. A man. There's always a man. And there's always a truth to be told.
I'm Hailey Anne Monroe. I’m twenty-eight years old. An artist, who found her muse on the canvas because I wasn’t allowed to have friends or even keep a journal. And yes, if you haven’t guessed by now, I’m that Hailey Anne Monroe, daughter to Thomas Frank Monroe, the man who was a half-percentage point from becoming President of the United States. If you were able to ask him, he’d probably tell you that I was the half point. But you can’t ask him, and he can’t tell you. He’s dead. They’re all dead and now I can speak.

Wow! This woman’s brain and mad writing skills are amazing. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This book was awesome. From the way she give us hints through the past about what is going on, she slowly draws you in and crafts this story that could be ripped from the headlines.
In a time where politics are constantly in our conversations, this book is a timely story that is twisted and a bit dark, but so damn good!
We all have that best friend that pushes us to do things we may not want to. Break down the barriers. Break some rules. But when you are the upcoming President’s daughter, that could be a big issue.
Jones nailed the controversy surrounding those that are in the public eye constantly. The way you are treated, especially when you are the cause of so many issues. I swear I wanted to smack her father!
But this story is not what it seems! I love that about her writing. This woman’s brain and mad writing skills are amazing. I read it in one afternoon and I wanted more! And that ending….YESSSSS. Like I said before – So damn good! It will keep you thinking.
Holy heck! I loved this book! This is suspense as it should be!
Hailey Monroe lives a life full of lies, deception and mystery. As the future First Daughter, she has been groomed to be the good girl and the perfect daughter of the man who would be president. When an accident during her high school years leaves her heart broken but unable to grieve, she does not find solace within the love of her father. Instead, her destiny continues onwards as only destiny can because ultimately one cannot change it.
This book was filled with so many twists and turns. With a dark tone, it presents the reader with a tiny mystery…who is Haley Monroe? The mystery only grows until soon everyone in her life falls under suspicion. When she is in the direst of need, she is unable to trust anyone. Life has proven to her that everyone always has an underlying agenda. And that leaves her alone and vulnerable to the machinations of someone who is trying to cover up murder. But with her blackouts, is it possible that she is the murderer?
This is written much like a journal which then flips to flashbacks of the past. This flip is not confusing in the least and the journal type entries are not lengthy or annoying. They actually showcase her frame of mind now and how she views the events with time and distance as she sets the scene for each flashback.
This is well written, high in drama, and although a lengthier read, it never dragged. The story begins pretty quickly and never slows down. As an outsider I never knew who to trust either and her paranoia had me paranoid right along with her. There is just the tiniest bit of romance here but that is not the focus of the story. The twist was something I wasn’t completely surprised by but still loved the revealing of it and the reasons behind it. There are some questions that were left unanswered and I’m not sure if this author plans to release a follow up at a later date.
I'm so thrilled to be sharing A PERFECT LIE complete with a brand-new cover! This is a full-length, standalone domestic thriller! It's available at all ebook retailers and in audio as well narrated by the lovely and oh so talented, Eva Kaminsky!
ABOUT THE BOOK I'm Hailey Anne Monroe.
EXCERPT FROM A PERFECT LIE “Can I join you?” he asks, motioning to the table.
There’s interest in his eyes, the kind a man has for a woman, but who knows, maybe it’s real or maybe it’s not real. Maybe he knows who I am and sees a path to power and fame. The way Tobey wanted me for money and power, right up until the moment I’d called his number aka his agenda; thus, he has not called me since I left. Maybe Harvard will lie even better than Tobey did. Maybe Harvard will at least kiss better than he did, and the lies would taste like temptation rather than convenience. At least then, if I’m used, I’ll enjoy being used.
Whatever the case, it’s clear I might actually be angry with Tobey and that aside, the interest that Harvard has shown in me, must be controlled before my Denver sanctuary is destroyed. “You can join me,” I say, “but only because I’m trying to save the rest of the place from the attorney in the house.”
I am pleased when Harvard laughs, where Tobey would have scowled, proving that Harvard has a sense of humor, which is rare for those in my life. I’ve barely completed this thought when he moves forward and claims the seat next to me, not across from me, settling his briefcase on that chair instead. In the process, his leg brushes my leg and for the briefest of moments, I’m transported back to the place that I’m now trying to forget: to Austin, to Drew’s leg next to mine, his wink, and I do now what I did then. I jerk back. If Harvard notices he doesn’t react. “Since we haven’t been formally introduced,” he says, resting his naked hands on the table. “I’m Logan. Logan Casey.”
“Logan Casey,” I repeat trying to ground myself in the present, at least for now, but some part of me is still swimming in that memory, which naturally has me wondering if this man is a shark in the water around me. “Two first names,” I add. “Sounds like your parents fought over who got to pick your first name. Did they draw straws for which choice became your middle name?”
“You’re actually right on target,” he says, laughing again, and it’s a nice, masculine laugh, and oddly this thought feels familiar while Logan does not. “No one has ever guessed that,” he adds. “My mother won the name war. The women always win. Speaking of names. Do you have one?”
“Hailey Anne Pitt,” I say, “and in my house, my father won the name war.” Because in my father’s world, I add silently, the women don’t win the wars. At least, not that he knows, not in an obvious way. I’ve learned this well.
“Well then, Hailey Anne Pitt,” he says, “what’s a Stanford girl like you, doing in a place like this? You’re a long way from school.”
I’m smacked in the face with a lesson I’ve long ago learned and forgotten with this man; strangers do not always remain strangers and all offhanded remarks can come back to haunt you. “That was a joke,” I say, shutting the door connected to my real life, and a path that leads to my father. “I hate attorneys, remember?”
He narrows his eyes on me, and for no reason other than instinct, I believe he’s looking for a lie that he won’t find. I’m simply too well-taught from birth, too skilled at being more than one person to allow such a detection. Well that, and the fact that I really do hate attorneys, which is why I’ll be a good one.
“That was a joke?” he confirms.
“Yes,” I say. “Are you amused?”
“Yes, actually. I am. What does a lawyer-hating smart ass like yourself do for a living?”
“When not busy taunting those who went to law school,” I say. “I’m an aspiring artist.” Both honest answers, if you put a “was” in front of the “aspiring artist” which I’d thought that I’d come to terms with, but the knot in my stomach says I have not.
Logan motions toward the art room. “Your career explains why you ended up here.”
“I guess it does,” I say, as this place serves me well to reconnecting to the Pitt part of my life, which is a place I really need to be right now, for all kinds of reasons.
“Are you good?” Logan asks, as if he’s read my mind.
My father’s words answer him in my head. Art is useless unless you’re famous, he used to say often, because of course, it was inconceivable that I might be good enough to be famous. “Art is like movies and food,” I say, shoving aside that bad memory. “Good is subjective.” I don’t give him time to reply. I ping the conversation back toward him. “What kind of law do you practice?”
“Corporate,” he says, and this time he pings back to me. “Do you live in the neighborhood?”
“Yes,” I say simply. “Do you?”
“I bought a building a few years ago where I live and work which means this is my home turf, and why I know you’re new here.”
“I am,” I say and since he’s clearly going to ask for details, I quickly preempt with an on-the-fly story. Actually, it’s the suggested story, Rudolf included in my file. “I came here for a job, and my new boss owns a house he’s rented to me for dirt cheap.”
“And what does an artist do but create art for a living?”
“I’m working for a private art acquisitions firm. I now hunt for treasures for a living.” This lie is actually my dream job that I’ve never been allowed to entertain.
The horror flick loving waitress delivers my coffee and brownie. “Thank you,” I say, because every politician’s daughter has manners beaten into her.
“No problem,” she says, “but if you come to your senses and want a better version of that coffee, just shout.” She eyes Logan. “I already know you want a crappy tasting coffee, on endless pour and a chocolate chip cookie. Coming right up.”
“Thanks, Megan,” he says, giving her a wink that I don’t classify as flirtatious, just friendly, and Megan is gone.
“Obviously you’re a regular,” I comment, “and they even like you.”
“And they like me,” he confirms, “despite knowing I’m an attorney.
“Because you’re good looking and use it to your advantage.”
He arches a brow. “You think I’m good looking, do you?”
“Oh, come on,” I say, crinkling my nose. “Everyone thinks you’re good looking. I’m simply stating a fact. We use what we have and those of us that are smart, know what we have.” I move on from what is really quite inconsequential. “Why work here, not at home, or in the office?”
“I find I get a lot of work done with a cookie, coffee, and no access to streaming television,” he explains.
No one in my D.C. crowd would make an admission of being human and distractible. Some people in my situation might take comfort in that fact, but I don’t. Logan’s an attorney, and my gut, which I’ll confirm with research, says he’s a powerful one, the kind that radiates toward my father. Maybe that’s a coincidence and maybe it’s not. Maybe he’s testing how well I execute my cover story. The possibilities are many. Though in all fairness to Logan, perhaps I’d lean toward his innocence, if not for the laundry list of recent events such as Tobey being gay and the FBI agent, who is likely working for my father, that I slept with to prove I was a) still desirable and b) not a killer.
What a great little mind twister this was. I enjoy following along a story where you have to piece together a puzzle and Hailey's retelling of her past had you doing exactly that.
This reads almost like a journal but better. She starts out the chapters in present time with a little bit of thought that has you wondering what is about to come, then she reverts to the past. You then read the past as if it is the present time. I'm not a big fan of time jumping back and forth but the way this story was laid out, I didn't struggle with it at all.
I would not classify this as a romance even though she does have romantic involvement with more than one man in the timeline. The focus is all about finding out what happened on the nights she doesn't remember and the results of those nights. You are left wondering why she doesn't remember, if it's because of something someone did to her or where there other things in play. It left the story open to go in any direction at any moment that made for a really great read.
A Perfect Lie is a standalone book, so no worries that you are going to have a cliffhanger at the end. The ending does leave me with a few questions that I believe is left for the reader to interpret for themselves. I highly recommend this if you really want a story that will pull you in and have you mind constantly running with all the little clues Hailey reveals to you one piece at a time.
Hailey, is the daughter of Presidential candidate, Thomas Frank Monroe and they have a tumultuous relationship as a result of a tragic accident in their past . Thomas portrays the perfect father with a perfect family and has groomed Hailey to be the perfect daughter in the public eye while cleaning up the mess that Hailey lands up in private but will the secrets and lies surrounding them finally prove to be their undoing ? A Perfect Lie is a well written story of greed and power with lots secrets, lies , twists and turns along the way. Hailey narrates the story in the present much like a journal with past flashbacks. A gripping story-line which kept me hooked to the end. I would like to thank Julie Patra Publishing, Lisa Renee Jones & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review
4.25 stars. Secrets and Lies. A romantic suspense and standalone that was intriguing, plausible with just the perfect amount of mindfu*kery to captivate and enthrall the reader. I absolutely loved this book with it's many twists and turns.
Part political thriller and part psychological drama, this has to be one of my favorite reads by this author possibly only secondary to her Lilah Love series (a must read duet with more books in the works for 2019). It alternates between past and current events through a series of flashbacks that give us an insight into Hailey’s state of mind throughout the ongoing story.
Some doors are better left shut. Ironically though, when a door is shut, it is pure human nature to want to open it, even if we need a crowbar to make it happen. Hailey doesn't flinch about opening that door, she wants answers
Hailey has been groomed since birth to be not only the perfect daughter, but the future First Daughter. Her father has always had political aspirations and began planning her legal and political path from day one. Her destiny was predetermined. But her father couldn't forsee everything and had no idea the tragedy that would befall them both. When it did, instead of pulling his daughter close, he distanced her, unless it was a photo-op of course. Hailey tells this story from the present day and reflects back on the past and the chapters are each somewhat like entries in a journal. Through this method, she brings the reader up to the present and resolves the mystery in the story.
Early in the story, "something" happens and you aren't sure who did it or how. It's an absolute mystery. To complicate things, Hailey suffers a blackout which means she can only remember snippets from the night in question. To complicate things, the media pops up with footage making it look as if Hailey was extremely intoxicated. Enter her father and "his staff" who send Hailey into hiding until things quiet down so that she doesn't harm his campaign. Again, when things are difficult for her, instead of being a compassionate parent, he sends her away. Her relationship with her father is pretty much non-existent. On top of this, Hailey finds out that people she has trusted in her life may not have been who she thought. She learns that almost everyone she's been involved with has wanted something and/or has lied to her at some point. They usually want a connection to her that gets them closer to her father and potentially the White House. So, she now has a difficult time trusting anyone and suspects that every person who enters her life may potentially be on his payroll. The sad thing is she needs to be able to trust now more than ever and almost chases away those that she can rely on because she's been so damaged by others she was once close to.
A Perfect Lie kept me guessing pretty much the entire way through which is a trick because my goal is always to try to figure a mystery out as quickly as I can. I, personally, felt like things were a bit rushed towards the end. There had been so much buildup during the story and it seemed like it was resolved in a matter of pages. That said, this was still a really enjoyable read full of fun twists. I highly recommend it.

3 1/2 Stars Hailey Anne Monroe, future first daughter and one of America's favorite sweethearts. She's well groomed, has the right friends and the right education, but there's something missing for Hailey...parts of her memory. She knows she blames herself, she knows her father blames her, but what led to the blame is hazy. Up until now Hailey has done all she can to remain out of the spotlight and be the perfect daughter, but an opportunity to live a little comes and it tips everything off its axis again. When Hailey's friend goes missing it's up to her to locate her missing memories, no matter the cost.
I guess this is a case of it's not you, it's me. I have so many friends who enjoyed this book, it just wasn't my personal favorite from LRJ. I felt like Hailey was a little flat for me, her backbone appeared only at the end and it felt like things just happened. I needed the suspense to feel realistic, to feel like it was something she was fighting against and fearful of, rather than just floating through. Plus, the explanations for some of the events just didn't feel real, it made the book feel like well...completely fictional, rather than being a story that could actually happen. It made it difficult for me to picture, for me to feel in character. I think had the plot been more believable and the pace been a bit faster I would've been more of a fan of it.
While A Perfect Lie was a miss for me, I will remain a one-click fan of Lisa Renee Jones.
Unlike anything else Lisa Renee Jones has written. Is a lie a lie if you believe it to be true? That is the ultimate question!
If you are a fan of Lisa Renee Jones you need to throw out every preconceived notion you have before you being this book, this is not a Romantic Suspense, not erotica, there's no hearts and flowers or rainbows and sunshine in this story. This is totally different from anything she has written before, it's even different from her Lilah Love Series.
I have to admit this is a hard review to write because there was so much going on you didn't know what was true and what wasn't, it had me guessing everything and totally kept my interest the entire way through. I honestly didn't want it to end and I definitely don't want to spoil it for anyone. I finished this book a month ago and I instantly began telling my friends that they had to add this to their TBR list and make it a priority because it is something that everyone will enjoy.
I hope you will add it to your TBR shelf as well because I think this is one of those books that shouldn't be missed! Happy Reading!!!
I have read a couple of Lisa Renee Jones's novels in the past and found they weren't for me as I don't find romantic suspense particularly appealing. However, this, her first foray into full thriller territory was much more enjoyable and was a surprisingly compulsive read. That said, there is some romance but the main bulk of the plot is suspense-based. The writing engages you pretty much straight away and it's fast-paced and immersive with more than a few twists in the tale along the way. I must admit, I was captivated by the exciting plot and interesting characters and the quality of the writing as it drew you in.
The synopsis is what initially attracted me to the novel; it's definitely one of the best I have seen for a thriller in a long time. It incorporates the psychological debate regarding nature vs. nurture into the plot making it more intriguing than the run of the mill crime fiction. It also, most likely unintentionally, touches on philosophical principles such as free will and the illusion of choice. This is a thought-provoking, compulsive and intelligent page-turner. I will be looking out for more from Jones and wouldn't be averse to reading another of her thrillers. Many thanks to Julie Patra Publishing for an ARC.
ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
This was my first Lisa Renee Jones book, and it won't be my last. This suspense storyline kept my wondering all the way to the end as to what was going to happen.
I was thrown as to what was actually happening with our main character. She was probably a little too whingey at some points, but for the most part, she was pretty easy to connect with and stay intrigued by.
Hell if I knew how things were going to play out. So many characters in this were leaving my wondering if they were what they seemed to be. I was sitting there reading and going, what on earth is going on at the bottom of all of this. It wasn't until I was nearly on top of the answer that I started to work it out myself.
Boy oh boy was this one a proper suspense novel. Enjoyed this thoroughly and definitely recommend.
****4.5 Stars**** This was a real page turner, full of mystery and suspense. It kept me wondering and guessing, through the whole book. Hailey played the part of the perfect political daughter, the future First Daughter, whose entire life has been in the public eye. But there are secrets and mysteries surrounding her, questions that need answering, things that don't make sense or add up. It kept me reading almost non stop, I had to know what really happened, what the story was. I would definitely recommend this book!

Intricate and complex, A Perfect Lie was mesmerizing. With a focus on the mystery, Jones gives us a story more in the vein of her Lilah Love Series. The web she constructed was tightly woven, giving us so much to think about. The questions kept piling up and with an unreliable narrator, I had a hard time putting the pieces together. I enjoyed the contrast between Hailey’s vulnerability and strength. Her flaws made her even more endearing. I was concerned for her and wondering how things would play out.
In addition to Jones’ intriguing characters, the story line completely pulled me in. The slow steady burn of the mystery, paired with the purposeful way it was all presented created an exciting tension. I didn’t want to miss a word.
I don’t typically read straight mystery/suspense novels, normally they fall under the romantic suspense umbrella, but the cover (the one on NG) and the blurb ~ the way it fucked with my mind (which was kind of cool considering it was just the blurb) peaked my interest and I have to say that this read totally did my mind in (in the best of ways, of course) and left me in that weird and wonderful realm of being satisfied and yet still questioning what was truth and what was the lie.
Hailey absolutely fascinated me. She was the lie and yet she was the truth as well of everything that was going on around her and happening to her. I enjoyed the fact that we got to be in her mind and see how she saw things without actually knowing her. Yes, things unravel, but there were still questions, the doubt, the concerns about her that had me wondering right up to the very end just how involved she truly was in all that went down.
This is my first read by the author, and what a read it was. It’s not a short read by any means, but it was a fascinating one with all the twists and turns and how the story was laid out with flashbacks and present day flip flopping going on. It’s filled with characters that are all suspect in one way or another (well, maybe with one or two exceptions), Hailey included, but they definitely brought depth to a story built on deception, manipulation, power and greed. So, if you’re looking for a good mystery/suspense then give this one a go!

I'm a bit on the fence with this one. At times there are glimpses of the brilliance of The Secret Life of Amy Benson and Careless Whispers which both had memory issues in the heroine that were amazing, but I felt there were too many loose ends for this to get a 5 star rating.
While I enjoyed the overall story, there were times that I felt the 'now' glimpses were taking away from the main story. This story was told as a series of flashbacks intermixed with more of a present day type story telling journal character voice style. Also, I felt the story ended too quickly and we were left with a few questions that were not answered. Some things just didn't sit right with me after the election results came in. And there were story lines that just ended with no second thoughts (ie, the art classes). A solid 4 stars! #MSBB
A Perfect Lie is the story of the future first daughter, Hailey, as she struggles with her strained relationship with her father, the pressure associated with a family member running for the presidential office, and the mysterious disappearance of her best friend. Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy A Perfect Lie as much as I wanted to because of the slow pace of the novel and a rather ineffective main character.
The pace of this novel in incredible slow. Readers follow Hailey as she lives her life day-to-day and deals with the pressure and media fanfare that follows presidential candidates. Life under her father’s thumb is a dull one, so when Hailey is sent away, I fully expected the novel to pick up and deliver a thrilling political mystery. Unfortunately, the story stays the same and Hailey never gains any agency despite all the characters around her making intriguing political moves. The novel then closes out quickly and conveniently with a summary of what happened instead of seeing what Hailey seemingly schemed off page.
Hailey has little to no agency throughout the entire novel. From the first page until the last she is controlled by her father and the various people around her father. Everything happens around and to her without her making any interesting or intriguing political moves herself. The reader is never privy to any of the moves she makes as they’re left off page. This may be indicative of an unreliable narrator, however this accentuates Hailey’s lack of agency instead of functioning as misdirect.
I also disliked the journal entries at the beginning of each chapter. I felt like they detracted from the story since the main character is telling the reader how she felt instead of showing. These journal entries would have served the story better had they been flashbacks instead of definitions.
Overall, A Perfect Lie is a boring thriller that has the potential to be as ruthless as House of Cards, but misses the mark entirely.

Unbelievable. Lisa Renee Jones knows how to write Romantic Suspense. She knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat, to have you hold your breath and keeps you scratching your head wondering just where everything is going. A Perfect Lie was no different.
You knew that there was going to be so much more to this story than a “lie” but had no idea where it was going to lead you. And, as the story unfolds and you see the path you are being lead down, you can't help but smile at the ingenuity and twisted mind Lisa Renee Jones has. As in the past, there is no way to summarize this story without giving everything away. Let me just say that I loved who Hailey turned into.
I loved how she turned herself around and found the life that she was meant to lead. I love how she treated her controlling, egomaniac father in the end. I loved how Lisa Renee Jones made me think, made me feel and made me smile in the end.
A Perfect Lie By Lisa Renee Jones 2.5 🌟 ARC ebook version
This was my first book from Lisa Renee Jones. It’s a suspense / Thriller read which is one of my favorite genres but unfortunately this one miss the mark for me. I couldn’t feel any connection with the main character Hayley Anne Monroe.
It took me multiple times to try and finish this story. The pace is very slow and revolves around Hayley strain relationship with her dad; which is running for the Presidency. Her having to do some questionable things to help her dad achieve presidency but never achieving anything for herself. Always questioning the people surrounding her, always control by her father and his staff and trying to find an ally to help her get out of this force life.
There were secrets and mystery surrounding her. I was excited for those part. I thought this will make the story pick up but unfortunately it kept the same slow pace until the end.
The constant back and forward between past and present events was a bit confusing.

“Bad memories take up good time that should have been shared.”
From the moment I picked up this book, I was instantly swept up in the web of A Perfect Lie. I was totally intriuged by Hailey’s story was desperate to find some answers. I had no idea what was really going on with her; only that I had to know more. The deeper I fell into Hailey’s story the more lost I was. Just as I thought I was putting the puzzle together, the rug would once again be pulled out from me.
A Perfect Lie is filled with mystery and suspense. There is danger and intrigue around every corner. I never knew who I could trust and who I couldn’t. Everyone played their part exceedingly well and they certainly kept me on my toes. At times, I felt like I was Alice going down the rabbit hole. Nothing and no one was as it seems. Who was real and who wasn’t? Who’s agenda could you trust? I had so many questions and was dying to discover the answers. A Perfect Lie kept me on my toes and begging for more. I couldn’t put this book down. I loved trying to solve the riddle of Hailey’s story and couldn’t have been more thrilled with how this story played out.
*I won an advanced copy of this book. This is my honest review*
Lisa Renee Jones is known for her steamy, complex novels with larger than life characters and their seductive relationships. But A Perfect Lie was a whole new level of complicated. A psychological thriller that will have your mind racing with its twists and turns and that will leave you breathless, I had a very difficult time putting this intriguing story down.
‘If a lie is a perfect lie, the kind that is undetectable to the human eyes, does it even count? Perhaps not unless you make a mistake and it’s exposed.’
This might be a new genre and style of writing for Lisa Renee Jones, but it certainly had all of the things I have come to adore about her work. We only had one POV here: our heroine Hailey’s narration, which even she told us at times may or may not be truthful. Meaning we had a potentially “unreliable narrator” and had to figure things out as we went. Read More
I loved this book. It really captured my interest from the first page. Its written in the first person and she is one twisted young woman. I loved her :-) Lisa Renee Jones has a very creative mind and her words flow nicely on the pages. I could actually picture this whole book in my head, playing it like a move as I read. Highly recommend! Thank you for my free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I wasn't sure what to expect walking into this thriller but whichever way, I somehow felt myself surprised with this read. At first I wasn't sure if it was going to be my cup of tea as it starts with an almost journal-ish like start where we are in Hailey's mind as she starts to tell us her story. It's when we get into this story that things pick up and hooks me.
She's an unreliable narrator who keeps losing pockets of time that seems to correspond to drinking a drink or two only so of course the only logical explanation is that she's being drugged. But during these black outs, terrible things seem to occur. Did I mention her father is running for president and blames her for her mother's death? Yep, this girl has a LOT of pressure on her! When yet another occurrence happens, she's hell bent on figuring out what the hell is going on. Or is she really the one to blame?
I really had no idea where this was going to go. This would have been a five star read for me except for a couple of things. I did a quick google check on a particular situation and though I didn't find anything, I'm sure the author did far better research than I did so that really didn't make much of a difference for me quite honestly. I did think that the last couple sections were unnecessary. I think I would've liked it to have stopped at one certain point to make a little more of an impact. Either way you guys, I absolutely recommend this book. And I absolutely adore Hailey as a character, even with some of her traits. *wink*
First off I want to say that I am a Lisa Renee Jones fan and have been since the very first book I read. She has always been my "one click no matter what" author so of course I didn't hesitate to read this one even though it is very different from her "normal" books being a psychological thriller and while it took me a minute to switch gears so to speak from what I normally read from her to this one, her writing never disappoints. This one definitely keeps you enthralled from the beginning and making you really question what exactly is going on and when you think you know she makes you rethink it again. I would recommend this book as with all her other books. Be warned however, you will need to really pay attention and read every word in this book.
It has been awhile since I've read a book by this author. I'm glad I took the plunge and read A Perfect Lie. I loved how the author set the stage for the reader. There was so many lies, betrayals, and spilled blood.
I loved Hailey's character as being the future first daughter. I didn't know what role she played in the lies being told. This alone had me flipping the pages faster.
I've read a lot of Renees books and loved every single one of them, this one of course as well. I love the mystery in her books. A Perfect Lie keeps you in the dark almost to the end. I would classify this book as a political mystery thriller or better yet mysteries and cruelty of political manipulations. It's a rollercoaster of lies, secrets, betrayal and greed for power and money. In this book, we dive into the abyss of political life. Life, where the lust for power is more important than anything else. This is a story about life as the daughter of the future president, or a man who does everything to become one and the loneliness of people who don't know whom to trust. Like Hailey the H said: "Everyone in my world has an agenda, and I'm but a mere token, being played in games I too often, unwittingly enter." What would you do when you can't trust anyone, not even yourself? What would you do if you had to question the motives of everyone and everything? Nobody is safe. Nobody is your friend. Everyone wants to gain power through you. You would be supervised and watched, not really knowing from whom. What would you do? I love this book ❣I've read it in one run and the excitement, fear and mystery has given me chills. Definitely a must read! So read this book and enjoy. I definitely enjoyed it very much. #APerfectLie #NetGalley
