The incredible story of Ron Ayres' record-breaking and historic ride demonstrates the importance of teamwork in achieving a difficult objective many thought unattainable. Ayres' compelling text captures the flavor of the ride as it happened with total sincerity.
Against the Clock is the account of Ron Ayres' record setting ride to 49 states (excluding Hawaii) in 7 days. Along the way, he also broke the record for visiting the 48 contiguous states in just barely over 6 days. I really enjoyed Against the Wind, the story of his participation in the Iron Butt Rally, and so when I saw this book at a used bookstore I snatched it up. I enjoyed it tremendously as well. I reinforces my own desire to see more of the U.S. by motorcycle, although I'm more inclined to long "flower sniffing" rides than busting across time zones as fast as possible.
Ron Ayres was formerly an executive with EDS, but in his retirement he has established and runs a high end motorcycle touring company. One day, I'd love to enlist in one of his tours of lower South America.
