The days are getting colder, and food is growing more scarce for Aiyre, a pronghorn shapeshifter, and her clan as they prepare for another long, hard winter. To make matters worse, a neighboring clan of shapeshifting sabertooths is causing problems and encroaching on their hunting grounds. When tragedy strikes her village, Aiyre will find herself turning for help to the most unlikely of places. But can she ever really trust the word of a sabertooth?
Daerk knows that the pressure between the sabertooth and pronghorn clan is coming to a head, but he's hesitant to challenge his leader without the backing of his people. His plans change after he meets a woman from the pronghorn clan whose tantalizing scent leaves him with a sneaking suspicion that she's his mate. He'll do anything to protect her, even tear his own clan in two. There's only one problem he can't face. Will she ever love him in return?
Lily Thomas is a world traveler who speaks Danish. Lily uses her experiences from other countries to bring her stories to life, drawing on the rich history and culture she enjoyed during her time in Europe, and in particular, her time in Denmark.
The Giant Wars series was inspired in part by the tales of Scandinavian folklore.
Ice Age Alphas was inspired by her love of all things caveman/early human history. She also loves shifters, so creating a paranormal ice age romance series was just perfect!
Her short story series, Galactic Courtship, is written proof of her love of sci-fi and romance.
Didn't enjoy this book I'm afraid, I had to make myself finish it, I looked at the four star rating and thought good, worth a try, how wrong. It's set in the ice age (a period i enjoy) and is about shifters (again a pleasure of mine) but the whole book is rushed. A sabertooth clan is living in close proximity to a pronghorn clan, the sabretooths are a predator species (obviously) and the pronghorns a prey species. The sabertooth clan leader blames the pronghorns for the shortage of food and convinces his clan to attack and massacre the pronghorns. Aiyre a pronghorn female who manages to escape but fears herself the line survivor untill she stumbles across her best friend Ezi, Ezi is injured so the two hide away in a cave just trying to survive.Daerk is a sabretooth male who does not agree with the way his clan is being run but he learns about the massacre too late it try and stop it, when he gets there the killing is all over. Bht, in the wind he scents an intriguing scent and sees a female running away, he loses her in the forest but cannot get her out of his mind. That's how it begins, and of course as it a romance they do meet and straight away are sexually attracted, Aiyre who two days before saw everyone she love slaughtered including all the clans children and her parents. No, shock no P.T.S.D. No tears of mourning. No let's look at his privates as he dresses after shifting. Also for two groups that are supposed to be close to starvation they have no problem finding food and shelter ...............all these caves scattered around fully equipped for habitation and fires that heat the caves in minutes. But I won't dwell on all the issues except to say there is a good book in here somewhere, with a little bit of patience and slowing things down, letting the characters develop naturally instead of rushing it, yes this could have been so much better. There is one character a female sabretooth who does something bad but she immediately regrets her actions and we are given a glimpse into why she acted this way and it excellently written. I would have loved to explore this character more. Sadly not to be as the ending is so swiftly resolved with no definitive resolution s, even the villains are left to get away. There's a sequel and normally when I start a series i give it at least two books before I quit but I can't see that happening here, I hate giving it such a low score but I really didn't enjoy this book at all..........
This is my second book by Lily Thomas and I am officially a fan. Her ability to create complex, believable worlds (of otherwordly kinds) is nothing short of brilliant. The characters were well drawn and I found both Airye and Daerk relatable. The tension was well-paced and her writing style, delightful.
Sabertooth's Promise is a fast-paced shifter romance with some steam and a unique plot that kept me turning the pages.
What a lovely book! It's so fresh and new. It's something I'm surprised I haven't seen before... shapeshifters during the ice age. It makes sense to think if they are in the present, then they must have been in the past, and the story telling was superb!
I really got into the story and loved every moment. The beginning definitely starts out with some super angst that leaves you wondering if they will all die, but then survival kicks in. It's a lovely romance with a slow build and sexiness that doesn't overpower the plot.
My only hope is that there will be a second one and the villain will get what's coming!
A fascinating mix of elements, The Sabertooth’s Promise is an unexpected twist on shifter romance. Set in the ice age, Aiyre is pronghorn shifter with strength of conviction, morals, and the ability to hunt. But everyone is prey to sabertooths in an especially harsh winter where food is scarce. This goes double for the sabertooth shifter clan, who seem to have it in for the pronghorn shifter clan they’d previously had well-established and respected boundaries with.
In the wake of tragedy, Aiyre is left with little choice but to trust a sabertooth shifter, the strong and sexy Daerk, who claims to have had no part in the decimation of her people. More than just an unlikely romance between the two, the central conflict is really with the greedy and overreaching current leader of the shifter clan. There are also other dynamics at play that keep the story interesting. While I felt like the story was a bit rushed at times, there was no lack of intrigue. Suspenseful, emotional, and sexy, there was a lot to love about this story.
This book went really fast. Probably a lot more telling than showing but the story was still good. The heroine was a hinter and the hero was late to show any real dominance but that was okay with me
I really liked the secondary characters. They seemed sweet.
Spoiler: The villain was horrible and I wish the end of the book gave justice to the innocent deaths but that didn’t happen. Maybe it will happen in the next book.
Can a pronghorn and a sabertooth mate? After the sabertooth clan wiped out the pronghorn clan, it's anyone's guess. But two of them are going to make it try. After a change of heart and a change of leader, yep! This was an interesting book. I didn't think I would like it, but I find that I really enjoyed reading it. It is mildly sexual, but not like most. I recommend this book to anyone wanting a change of pace. Good job!
This shifter story was a little different than what I’ve read before but I really enjoyed it! A war between packs, shifter mates, despair, love and danger. This story had it all. The narration by Logan McAllister was absolutely perfect. I recommend this book!
I enjoyed reading this as my first shifter romance. The pacing of the story was great with enough detail and enough action to keep things interesting while bringing the reader I to the world.
This series is set in the ice age and the winter is making it hard for all shifters to survive. But this couple do as they mate and find a way to hel l there clans.
Erotica isn't one of my usual genres, but as soon as I read the premise of this book, I knew I had to read it. Like the author, I'm fascinated by early human history, so the idea of an historical romance set in the ice age was super appealing. The shapeshifter element made it sound all the more interesting, and I have to say it delivered on all of those points. The author did an amazing job of creating a believable ice age setting, complete with two rival shapeshifter cultures with their own societal elements and traditions. The little details from their behavior, beliefs and rituals, village politics, and clothing all made me fully buy into these characters as ice age humans. Even their dialogue and thought processes felt believable to me. It would be all too easy to slip into too modern a mindset when writing ancient humans, but the author created characters who felt authentic in their thoughts, roles, and beliefs. The story was also fast-paced and flowed well, and I really liked the story, which held my interest from beginning to end. I'm really looking forward to the next book!
Going to be completely honest, this cover was what caught my eyes and fascinated me. I don’t even know how to explain this story, but wow I really enjoyed it.
A Sabertooth’s Promise is the first in the Ice Age Alphas series. I was sent the first three (Direwolf’s Heart just came out not too long ago). I would highly suggest you check this author out, especially this series.
The war between clans in this story was wonderfully written. It had such an amazing love story with so much danger. I’m honestly so surprised by this story. It takes place in the Ice Age, which I’ve never seen that in a story, and wow do I sure find that era fascinating. Obviously my favorite part has to be the shifting involved.
Lily S. Thomas is honestly going to be one of my favorite underrated authors. (Spoilers: I have A TON more reviews for her coming soon). Her writing style is so stunning and unique. I really enjoyed every moment of this story. It was such a fast paced read and such a fun ride. Wow I sure had a blast with this one!
**Huge thank you to @author_lily_s_thomas for sending me this book, along with six others, in exchange for an honest review.**
2.5 stars. It had the potential to be a great fated mates story, but overall it was bland and underwhelming. I couldn't really connect to the characters and their love story was generic and bland. There was attraction and passion, but I didn't feel the love between them. The heroine was annoying with her pushing away of the hero. She sleeps with him but then she isn't sure if she wants to be with him. Seriously? This story was quite long and detailed which I don't mind, but it missed key elements for me. The positive aspects were that the world building is original and the story entertaining because it takes place in the ice age.
Plot: 3/5 Love story: 1/5 Fluff: 1/5 Angst: 3/5 Hea: Yes, but it felt incomplete.
Favorite quote: “Having a mate is like having a piece of you outside of your chest, a part you now need to keep safe, a drive inside of you pushing you to claim your mate, to keep her in your arms, and to fill her with offspring. I will never just let you go.”
I enjoy books about shape-shifters, and one set in the Ice Age, featuring were-sabretooths, sounded interesting. Unfortunately, the fact that the protagonists are shape-shifters is essentially irrelevant – this is a standard romance novel involving a couple from warring tribes falling in love. If you like that sort of thing, you may enjoy this, but it isn’t my cup of tea.
Additionally, the writing was rather amateurish. Full stops were frequently used in place of commas, there were a couple of spelling mistakes, and some punctuation was missing. The same point was often reiterated over and over again, even across a few sentences. I’m paraphrasing, but think something like this: “She went out looking for food, but it was scarce because it was winter and very cold. She hurried back to the village, because it was winter and the cold was dangerous. She went into her hut and tried to warm up, because it was very cold since it was winter.” Just not good writing.
This was such a fun, hot, sexy, and thrilling story to read. Aiyre is the type of character that you can relate with. She is a lovable heroine with a stubborn side. Daerek is a strong sexy man with a good kind heart and I just love all the chapters in his POV. His relationship with his friends is so adorable and fun. With a label of romance my worry was that The Sabertooth's Promise would be full of sex and nothing more, but I was blown away by an amazing story line plot. It was action packed. Of course there were some hot sexy bits as well and those did not disappoint either. I love shifter stories and I went into this one with a huge curiosity because I have never read a story with pronghorn shifters. I highly recommend checking this one out. It is a light easy read that had me hooked from the start.
A shifter book with a difference in that it is set during pre-historic caveman days. An interesting and entertaining read with shifters aplenty. When the sabertooth shifters massacre the village of the pronghorn shifters it is unlikely that peace can ever be established between them. But, in this fantasy tale that had elements of Romeo and Juliet, love and desire can bloom in the most unlikely places. With some quite graphic and anatomical steamy scenes, it’s not a book for those of a prudish nature, but the concept is fresh, and the story is told well enough that I would like to read the next book in the series.
While this is a prehistoric historical paranormal romance it doesn't have a dry prudish way about it! Which personally I love! I have a problem with historical romances for that reason. But I love shifter romances and I've really enjoyed Lily Thomas' books!
This story is a great twist on the shifter romance. While she's a shifter her type of shifter doesn't have fated mates. There is also the whole predator vs. prey figuratively and literally lol.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was interested in reading a shifter caveman romance. I enjoyed it. Winter was harsh and few sources meat. The atmosphere was similar to Indian western romances except for reference to Mammoths & Sabertooths. Clans and types of leadership are central to the story along with trust. Standalone with HEA. 1st of the series and wanting to read more and know about the other characters in the series.
Book one out of four.I haven't read this author before but I liked her style of writing. I enjoyed the story but did find it slow at parts and to much sex. Looks like Ezi will get her story next.
Beautiful book cover. Nice strong heroine. Weaker hero. Poor writing. Conversations were awkward and unnatural. They oscilated between juvenile, formal, useless, and repetative. DNF.
