“Now,” Timber said. “Let me tell you a story while we sit here on this dark, dismal night.” “One of your adventures?” the Deputy asked. “Nah,” Timber said. “A story I was told one time by a preacher I met while chasing down some criminals.” “This should be good,” the Deputy snickered. “It sure should be,” Timber replied. “Now let me start…”
This is the first book in a brand new Western series. "The Timber U.S. Marshal Chronicles Western Series" pulls together tales from some of the best Western authors of today.
Joel Roberts hated the fact that he had been a sniper during the Civil War. He had given up his study of law to do his bit in what he thought would be a short conflict. He didn’t realize that the return to his home would show him how the divide of the country had destroyed all that he had fought for. The only thing he felt he could do was find the one woman he had missed over the years of slaughter. Mounted on his outstanding stallion, Ghost, he begins his search for his lady, which leads to continual conflict with evil. He turns into the devil that no one wants to cross. His journey allows him to develop many strange friendships, the most important of which is with Brutus, his dog. They travel endless miles, facing continual threats, and finds that neither can survive without the other.

Great story by Mr. Fred Staff, and quiet impressive storylines throughout the entire book. I believe this is my first time enjoying this author, but it will not be my last. Plenty of action and it definitely involved an extraordinary amount of action throughout the entire book.
Definitely five star worthy and plenty of heartwarming episodes throughout the entire book, as well as enough exciting gunplay to appease the most demanding reader's undivided attention. Joel does an exceptionally outstanding job of fulfilling the reader's greatest expectations. Too, Bass Reeves is one of my all time favorite characters, although his part was minimal, I was, as always, impressed. The character selections were outstanding and their assignments are successfully touching. Even the bad guys were placed to perfection, although some were short lived. I hope to find another great novel by this author immediately, as this story touched every aspect of an overpowering and entertaining story. Definitely recommend this compassionate story to all you western folklore readers, as I am sure you will definitely love the story of you enjoy a lot of action packed adventures, there are no dull moments in the entire story, and the camaraderie of the good guys is definitely impressive. The gunplay is outstanding and the romance is superb. If you live action then this book is definitely for you. I couldn't put it aside until the final paragraph was read. Do yourselves a favor and start the novel now.😄
