Luca Caioli (Milan, 1958) is the author of several novels and biographies that have been translated into forty languages and sold a million copies. Throughout a career of over thirty years as a journalist, he has covered the main sports events for the most prominent European media. He currently lives in Madrid.
Books worth reading for a hardcore Ronaldo fan especially his pre Sporting Lisbon time where the author beautifully expresses his life in words which will not bore the reader. But I felt the author has focused too much on the off field life of Ronaldo rather than his on field brilliance after he joins Man united, at times he skips the whole season and mentions only the last few games of the season neglecting his hat ricks, red cards, last minute wins during the middle of season which is a huge minus point of this book. Also towards the end of book it appears as if the Author is a Lionel Messi fan because he keeps bringing Messi into the discussion and mentions more players who mention that Messi is better than Ronaldo, and in the last chapter he writes the whole interview of the 3 so called experts who in a way speak positive of Messi and negative of Ronaldo which annoyed me. So I guess that this book isn't best of Ronaldo books but still would be a decent possession for a hardcore Ronaldo Fan.
I hoped more of insight into Ronaldos life. Everyone say he is not that who many people see. Then who is he? Many of the pages are just empty repetition. Everyone can see his football skills on tv...i dont need to read about it. You should call the book: football match in words. After story until sporting times there is not much story telling. Ronaldo, I dont think this book does you justice... Then again, i cant judge what i dont know...
This book is about Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro beginning his soccer career when he was really little. He was born Feburary, 5, 1985. His mom and dad are Jose Dinis and MAria Dolores. His birthplace was Fuchal in Madeira, Portugal. He has a brother named Hugo and two sisters named Katia and Elma. His son with Cristiano Junior. He has played for teams Andorinha (1993-1995), Nacional (1995-1997), Sporting Lisbon (1997-2003), Manchester United (2003-2009), and Real Madrid (2009-present day).
I knew a lot of stuff about Ronaldo before I started to read this book, but there is a lot of stuff that i didn't know before i started reading. I didn't know that he scored over 300 goals. I also didn't know he has won the Ballon d'Or(2008), FIFA World Player of the Year (2008), European Golden Show (2008, 2011), and so many more than this.
The main reason why I started reading this book is because Ronaldo is one of my favorite soccer players. He has so much technique and skill. He started to play at an acadamy when he was only 7 years old.
Over all I really enjoyed this book and enjoyed learning what i didnt know about him before. I would recommend this book to anyone who like soccer or Ronaldo.
Yes he is the G.O.A.T alongside(Messi). A true legend of this game and an inspiring human being. He is the best example how hardwork can change one's life.
First of all I chose to read this book because it is about the Great Cristiano Ronaldo, and the book is related to football, therefore It caught my eye. The thing that I found most interesting about this book was that it was not just a book that talked about the great performances of Ronaldo, as most books about great athletes that I have read are. This book goes deep into his life and lets the reader know the player personally rather than just a summary of the highlights in his career.
I liked how the book featured exclusive interviews by the author to Ronaldo himself, his parents, his Girlfriend and his child.
I would recommend this book to people who are interested in not only Football, but even sports in general since Ronaldo is an inspiration to several athletes. If your looking for a book that would inspire you and give you motivation, then this book can also fulfill that wish!
This book was amazing description of this great player. I knew a lot of information about Cristiano Ronaldo but not everything. In this book I learned stuff that I did not know about, such as the small details of his life, and some hobbies that he liked to do that I did not know about him. I had a lot fun reading this book. I myself play soccer love the sport and I was a Real Madrid fan since I was 4 years of age. This club meant a lot to me, when zinedine zidane and David Beckham played at the club. They have a lot of history. So for this young player form Madeira that rose up from a poor family and soon became the most expensive player in the football history. That is not an easy thing to do. I envy Real Madrid and Ronaldo as a role model. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING IF YOU LIKE RONALDO AND REAL MADRID!!!!! I WILL GIVE THIS BOOK 100 OUT OF A 100, I ABSOULTLY LOVED IT!!!!!
I thought this book was great because it told the story of how Cristiano Ronaldo (famous soccer player) grew up as a little boy. Ronaldo was a pour kid as a little boy with his family where they lived in Portugal. Ronaldo wasn't such the boy who cared about school at all, even though his mum told him many times to do his homework before he went to play soccer, he wouldn't listen though! Ronaldo as a kid having a strong passion for football he played it a lot, 7 days a week he would have little matches outside on the street where his apartment was. As cars or bikes came through they would just stop the game, move the goals quickly and then get right back into it, nothing was going to stop them at all. As Ronaldo progressed in his football he would start to play in young leagues were he smashed every team and player that got in his way. Ronaldo was soon promoted up a league were he still progressed and stood out from everyone else, he was a true star. At a very young age Ronaldo was spotted by a scout to go and play for Real Sporting Lisbon, which is a well known Portugal team. He played there in the reserves until he was old enough to play as one of the big boys when he was 16. As Ronaldo progressed people took more notice of him as maybe becoming a star when he's older. Funny enough Manchester United bought Ronaldo for 12.24 million pounds days later. After having talks from other clubs, Man U were the most willing to pay more.
Ronaldo was he new star of footballing history because of his age and he surprised lots of people on how he played. Ronaldo did have his ups and downs as all players do, because not every player is perfect. Media gave him pressure for a while because he was the next big hit. After he overcome that he was brilliant. Ronaldo won 2 best European based player in the world in a row, 2 FIFA world player of the year awards and UEFA best player award. It is hard to believe but after 5 years at Man U he was transferred to one of the best clubs in the world for a huge price of 94 million pounds. This was the biggest transfer in history of football. Ronaldo was transferred to Real Madrid.
After receiving his second best player of the year award at Man U he said to media that it was no time to stop. In 2013 he won his third Best European Based player in the world and also the following year in 2014.
As all football players do, they have rivals. Ronaldo's rival was the little Argentinian Lionel Messi who has also won 4 best European Based players of the year. These two players aren't just good players because of just what they do but what they and there team do. They wouldn't be able to do all of the tricks and skills without their team their to back them so they are lucky for what they have.
All between Ronaldo's Club life he has been playing for the Portugal National team in World Cups for quiet sometime, since he was a young lad. As you usual he has scored and assisted countless goals for Portugal and is still going for more.
Ronaldo is still currently playing for Real Madrid and playing better than ever with one of the best teams in the world.
I would recommend this to soccer player only because it may come to be a bit boring for others sometimes. 5 stars from me!

Ronaldo: The obsession for perfection by Luc caioli is about a famous soccer player, Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro. His young days in Fc Sporting, His very first club and many episodes in Manchester United where he spent 6 years with probably the best team in the club history. Lastly, his life in the current club, Real Madrid and to be spotted as one of the best players in the world. To look at this book in a bigger picture, Ronaldo’s whole life is recorded in this book: Ronaldo in Portugal, England, Spain, and his life as a soccer player. The character development is represented as he states one of the best players he played with and his special thanks for Sir Alex Ferguson. The Conflicts he faced as a prospect and his family relationship is well described, for example: Ronaldo’s father who was an alcoholic and about Ronaldo’s son whom he never reveals the true mother. I really recommend this book to all the soccer fans, people who loves Ronaldo as a player. Ronaldo’s whole life is briefly summarized in this book. How he became a world’s best player from a rising star is amazing. This book is 5/5. I am a huge soccer fan and I really learned a lot about Ronaldo as a person from only knowing him as a soccer player.
As Clear as Crystal The author's writing style is very beautiful. In the book, he gives many quotes said directly from Cristiano Ronaldo. The author views him unlike any other author every has. At one point, he views him as a great soccer player but then in another light the author views Ronaldo as an egotistical person. His writing is never confusing as he describes everything little detail with grace. The author does an incredible job of showing Ronaldo's internal thoughts and his external actions. The style was very beautiful as it urged my to read more.
As Good as Gold This biography met every expectation of mine and more. This was one of the few books that I truly enjoyed reading. The book was very accurate as many of the things stated in the book can be found in online information websites. There were numerous facts portrayed in the biography and indeed outweigh the propaganda. Cristiano Ronaldo is my role model but I did not realize that I knew so little of him. This book allowed me to get extensive information about my role model and has left an impact on me.
Mediocre biography about one of the greatest football players ever. Despite being hardcore Madridista, I cannot rate this book higher. You are probably wondering why. Well, I hoped more insight in Ronaldo's life, I do not care about match details and more important I do not care about his girlfriends. I wanted less details about games he played, more or less I have seen them all, especially those he played for Madrid. Give me some controversial stuff, what motivates him to become greatest. Messi is shown as a fiercest adversary yet both, Messi and Ronaldo have claimed several times that they are friends. Book is full of typos and plain repetition.
I hoped that this book would describe more of Ronaldo's life. But, the book only describes Ronaldo's matches and things you can hear on the news. Simply, MATCHES IN WORDS. In the book, the author describes every match of Ronaldo. That's it. For example: Ronaldo passes to the striker! He goes with the ball close to the goal and shoots! Goooool! When I borrowed this book, I thought that the book describes the player morally, not physically. I do not recommend it!It's very boring and you better watch his matches at TV!
Instead of this book, I recommend you read Andre Agassi's autobiography, a very interesting book. It is true that it is about tennis, but the book does not describe his matches, but aspects of his life.
The book Ronaldo: The Obsession for Perfection By Luca Caioli, is a great book if you if you can’t stop talking about soccer. Or If you are a huge Cristiano Ronaldo fan like me. The book is about how Cristiano Ronaldo grew up to be one of the greatest players to ever play the game of soccer. It shows his Beginnings, his life on Sporting, Manchester United, and Real Madrid, and it shows his rivalry with Messi. These three things is what gives character to the book. This is also what makes the book have life in it in a way which makes the book enjoyable to read. In the book, Luca tries to give a sense of what life was like by putting some of the quotes in first person. On chapter one, Luca makes it like Cristiano is talking. He is talking about his life and where he was born. This gives two different perspectives. One from Cristiano, and one from Luca. That is the big difference between most of the biographies that I read. Most talk in the third person like for instance if the book was about Cristiano Ronaldo they would say, “Christiano was born in Portugal.” Another way that the authors writing is creative and unique is that when a huge Cristiano Ronaldo fan reads this, they will find more interesting facts that another book or novel would give you. Such as on chapter 27 which is about his passions, One thing he would like to have happen is the ban of cigarettes. Another cool fact about Cristiano Ronaldo is that his full name is Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro. These facts you wouldn’t find in the average biography. One thing that I think is awesome is that Luca talks about the feelings of Cristiano Ronaldo when he played on Sporting, Man U, and Real Madrid. On pg 17, he is saying that he is very sad that he can’t live with his family because he is playing soccer far from home. The emotions that he says in the book makes you have empathy for Cristiano. Now the rivalry Cristiano has with Messi is not what anybody thinks. The rivalry between the two of them is life. On pg 193, they show that the Madrid sports paper shows the comparison between the two of them. Cristiano clearly wins in that comparison, but when they get compared by the Italian paper La Gazette Dello Sport, Messi wins by a point. This shows the tension and how there isn’t a clear answer for who is better and they won’t stop fighting until there is a winner just like in The Night Circus By Erin Morgenstern. One thing that I didn’t like about the book was that it was very dry in the middle which was because Luca was mostly saying facts. Also, the ending was a little bad because it ends with an announcer asking a question. It really left me hanging. That is why I gave this very well written book a 4 out of 5 stars.
Ronaldo The Obsession for Perfection Written by Luca Caioli
The author wrote the book to tell about Ronaldo’s struggles as a young boy and how he overcame those struggles to become one of the world’s best soccer players. The author wants the reader to understand that you can overcome life’s struggles and preserver, if you set your mind to it and have a goal that you are working towards. The author used two styles in writing this book; description and narration. An example of description was used in the book when it talks about his mother asking Ronaldo if he had homework and he would always tell her he didn’t have any. Then, he would grab fruit or yogurt out of the refrigerator, climb out his bedroom window with his soccer ball under his arm and be out playing until 9:30 p.m. Narration was used so the author could tell the events in the order they happened to tell the story of how Ronaldo became a talented and successful soccer player. Ronaldo had a rough childhood. Ronaldo’s father was a chronic alcoholic and his brother was a drug addict. Ronaldo was diagnosed with a racing heart at age 15 years old and had to have surgery to correct it. Ronaldo had a soccer ball at his feet at the age of three. Ronaldo has always had an “obsession with perfection” since he started playing. He’s always practicing and lifting weights to make himself stronger. This obsession carries from the practice field to the game field in everything he does in being a soccer player. As a youth, he played for Andorinha. He debuted for Sporting CP at the age of 17. He was bought by Manchester United as the most expensive teenager in history. While playing for Manchester United, he was bought by Real Madrid for the most expensive transfer fee in history. Ronaldo still currently plays for Real Madrid. I enjoyed reading the book. This book is similar to several other books I have read about individuals and their story of becoming a successful soccer player or football player. I relate to this book and its title when it comes to me and soccer. I am always hard on myself when it comes to my actions on the soccer field and questioning if I could have done something different, especially if we lost a game.
Ronaldo: The obsession for perfection. Luca Caioli. Published in the UK: Published by Corinthian Books, 2012. Pages 253
In Ronaldo: The obsession for perfection, Luca Caioli tells us the inside story of this global superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, both on and off the pitch. Featuring insights from those who know him best: coaches, teammates, girlfriends and even the man himself. He is one of the most exciting footballers of his generation.
Cristiano Ronaldo started at youth level on his home island in Madeira his spirit and natural flair took him into the Sporting Lisbon first team. He attracted interested in Manchester United who later bought in the summer of 2003. His dazzling footwork, showmanship and eye for goal not only inspired United to two Premiership titles, but he was United's only player to score in normal time in the 2008 Champions League final, which the Reds won to put the finishing touches to a remarkable double-winning season. Later that year was rewarded with the FIFA World Player of the Year - and the first player based in the UK to win the award. Since his record-breaking £80m move to Real Madrid, his goal-scoring flair has continued and made his on-going rivalry with Barcelona’s Lionel Messi even more intense.
This book was a great and easy read especially if you are a soccer fan and love Cristiano Ronaldo. You will learn a lot about Ronaldo and what it took him to reach the top. And how it was being the most expensive trade in football history. The thing that would make this book a lot more enjoyable to read would be pictures from his early start to now. Their isn't really anymore criticism about this book. If you're a real soccer fan you should definitely pick up this book. Word Count: 300
The book Cristiano Ronaldo Obsession for Perfection is written by Luca Caioli. I chose this book because I was always interested in the footballer and his history, because everyone would say Messi is better than Ronaldo and I would like to prove to them who is better. Now I know the things Ronaldo has gone through. I can confidently say that he had a hard life. This book Relates to Messi: The Inside Story of the boy who became a Legend because they had different lives but they both made to the top, Messi because of Natural Skills Ronaldo because of Hard Work and Passion.
I thought this book was a good example of how anything can be accomplished. This book from Luca Caioli shows how the world's best player had to have started somewhere. You just want to keep reading more and more of the book if soccer is what you love. If you are rich it doesn't guarantee fame, if you are poor you seem to be encouraged more so you work harder to achieve your goal. This book had amazing descriptions of this great player. In this book I learned stuff that I did not know about, such as the small details of his life, and some hobbies that he liked to do that I did not know about him. I had a lot fun reading this book. I recommend this book to anyone that loves football and wants to learn about the struggles and accomplishment of the world's best football player.
In this book, I really learned about how a person's life can change in a split second as his father passed away. This changed his life as he needed to get money so he & his mother could survive. So, he played in Sporting Lisbon, a football/soccer club in Portugal, where they played a friendly VS Manchester United where they were interested in him; eventually, they signed him & gave him the #7, a number wore by greats in Manchester United such as George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham, and many more. He was spectacular for 4-5 seasons as he then moved to Real Madrid & became not only the most expensive football player of all time, but one of the greatest players ever to step onto a football pitch. I enjoyed this book a lot & I would recommend it to people who enjoy Football because they would understand the concept of a life of a Footballer.
This nonfiction book is about a soccer player named Cristiano Ronaldo. The books talks about his life from the beginning when he was born to current time when he is playing professional. It talks about his family and friends and what he does outside of soccer. And how he practices and works really hard to play the game, because he has such a big passion for the game. The connections I have with this book is that I love soccer as much as Ronaldo does and he works really hard to play the game, and I work really hard too. He has such a passion and love for the game. I think I would recommend this book to people that like soccer or any other sports because it talks about how he changes his life from nothing to something great. He started from being poor living in a small house poor neighborhood, and he changed it to being a millionaire and doing what he loves to do everyday.
Ronaldo a lot of things come to mind when the football community hear his name. This book is a great story the author does a great job explaining but I think that in a way we can all relate because we try to be perfect at some thing. The book tells us how a young Portuguese star started playing for his youth academy and how his hard work and determination lead him to be one of the worlds best and a true legend. And you also find out that Ronaldo is really close to his family and some of his hobbies What I dint like about the book is that the first two chapters are only quotes that Ronaldo has said in the past and when I first rented this book I wanted to learn about Ronaldo. But around the end i don't know why the author was talking about Messi.
I thought this book was a good example of how anything can be accomplished. This book from Luca Caioli shows how the world's best player had to have started somewhere and that he is human. You just want to keep reading m,ore and more of the book if soccer is what you love. The book shares something in common with you if you love soccer. If you are rich it doesn't guarantee you fame. If you are poor you seem to be encouraged more so you get somewhere in life. This book definitely deserves 5 stars and in one word is, admirable.
This is a great book that is packed with love and soccer by Luca Caioli named "Ronaldo:The Obsession for Perfection. This book shows all of the readers how Cristiano Ronaldo started of as a normal kid playing soccer in Portugal to playing for Real Madrid. It shows how much he dedicated to the game because he was a great soccer player and is still getting better. This sport got him from a normal kid in Portugal to a superstar that everybody knows of. This also shows how he left his family at around 12 years old to play soccer somewhere else.
I loved learning more about one of my favourite football players, I would recommend this to any sports-lover and football supporter. I now think and look at Cristiano Ronaldo in a completely different light. I loved reading about his childhood and history, as well as reading about his present day accomplishments. Ronaldo is a great person and has actually done many good deeds in his life. I have a much more profound respect for him after reading this book.
This is a very perfect book who like football specially who are fans with Ronaldo. basically this book just telling a story about the life of Ronaldo becoming a professional footballer. I'm gonna tell you a little bit about this book. Ronaldo won both the FIFA World Player of the year award and the Ballon d'Or in 2008. Since his record-breaking 80 million poundsterling move to Real Madrid. In that time he was the most expensive player in the world.
One dimensional book from Spanish-based sports writer Luca Caioli. Chapters about his personal life were few and much more interesting than his soccer stats (as they are so well known). Too bad that thi so-called updated 2017 edition did not include Portugal's amazing Euro 2016 Championship. Ronaldo will go down is footie history but this book does not capture the man or the sport. A few more photos would have been nice!
This book is about cristiano ronaldo, a soccer player who grow in poverty but now is a millionari. He is from portugal but now he plays in real madrid spain. This book is interesting because it show how a poor guy went from poor to rich. My impression about this book is that is a really good book young soccer player players should read it.
This book first caught my eye when i saw the word perfection in the title. When i started to look into it i noticed how much i had in common with Ronaldo. He has an obsession for perfection. I need everything to be perfect, for my hair, my grades my books even my handwriting. That's why i related to the book so well. And the other reason why i read this book
I really enjoyed this book, as it was about what I was interested in. The footballer it is written about is one of my favorite and reading about his extended life was very interesting. Also, reading about his younger years as a player, was eye opening as his life at the age of 18 when he entered football was very different to what I thought it would be.
I really loved this book it contained and astounding story of one of the greatest footballers in our era. He truly defines what an amazing player he is. Being a poor boy from Madeira, Portugal, to being one of the best and richest footballers in history. Due to his talent, helping his team Win league titles, Cup trophies, and winning the Ballon D'or, which is the best footballer award.
